GENDER INEQUALITY: STEREOTYPES AND INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

This post was written by a student. It has not been fact checked or edited.

I am going to talk about my opinion of all the related with gender inequality, especially of stereotypes and of International Women’s day. I think that these topics are very important to talk about, because many people believe that now, stereotypes don’t exist or that Women’s day is not important. But, I think that they are completely wrong.

First of all, stereotypes are a set of believes that are often social biased opinions, that people think they are facts. For example, people think that men are better at mechanics or at math and women are better at staying taking care of children. This isn’t true. I think that stereotypes should be stopped or reduced to the maximum possible, as many people are born believing that they should be good or bad at something just because their gender, and this can cause irreversible effects on a child.

Also, International Women’s day, is celebrated each year on March 8th, that women use to claim for their rights. But, despite its importance, people, usually men, believe that is a waste of time and money. This is not true. Women’s day is an important day, although in my opinion, there should be more days, because with one day only, I think it’s the reason why people believe it is not important.

On conclusion, I think that everything that is related to gender inequality should be improved to stop bad opinions that can harm people, by publishing news about it or just talking about it.

  • In my opinion women have the power to do anything perfectly. They can rule countries, lead businesses, teach, or even work in the media
On the other hand, women also still faces challenges like unequal and lower salaries than men and even not enough opportunities.

    1. I completely agree with you. I think if women have the power to stay at home 24 hours a ,from morning till without a halt to rest I believe they have the power to do any thing. I think women even have the power to lead in government agencies and even handle presidential affairs.

  • In my opinion girls can do anything they want and im happy about it like Teachers firefighters etc...

A Long time ago girls cannot do this do that and after international womens Day the first one loads of stuff changed for girls like they couldent go to university

Women They were also barred from acts as practical and simple as wearing pants, or from enjoying a vice, like smoking in public. Thank goodness those days are over, but the fight continues, since there are a number of ways women still aren’t treated as the equals of men. Of course, we’ve come a long way, so let’s celebrate our nation’s progress as we look back on these surprising things women weren’t allowed to do just a century or so ago. Then, read up on these incredible female firsts and share these inspirational quotes for women.

It’s hard to imagine a time in this country when women didn’t have some of the basic rights they have today, but it wasn’t all that long ago that things were very different. For starters, women were only granted the right to vote in 1920. Before that, they didn’t have a voice in who shaped America’s laws or ran the government.

I will get you more Next Week!.

  • hello topical talkers, I and my friends had a debate concerning the Indian elections, we were to stand if one person can rule 1.4 billion people and sit if more than one person can rule 1.4billion people. the debate was very interesting and I also changed my mind on India and England, I thought that England is larger than India so I changed my mind and said that India is larger than England, that is why I said I enjoyed the debate and I hope that you enjoyed it to.

  • In my opinion women have the right to play whatever sports they like or choose the jobs they want ,but some jobs are better to be done by men , because maybe this job needs more strength or men have better abilities to do it. I'm not with people that say women's place is the kitchen ,but some missions are better to be done by men for women's safety.

    1. Can you explain why you think this? Is there evidence to support you view or do you think your opinion has been influenced by your upbringing?

      1. For example people who work in building places have to lift heavy things and do hard work , some women work in it but most workers are men because it needs more strength.

  • I agree with you,
Kids don't even realize this and slowly start to think the same, even if they don't want to or wouldn't have, if they would've gotten the right environment and ideology around them.
Anyone can do anything they like, it is their life and they are the boss of it. Nobody has the right to tell them what they ought to do.

    1. do parents have the right to tell their children what to do?

      1. Hi Rebecca, thank you for the query,

Yes, parents do have the right to tell their children what to do, as long as it is not based on any stereotype, for example,
if a child that comes from a poor family is insisting on buying something expensive, then the parents have the right to say no to him/her, but,
if a boy wants to buy a little toy kitchen set, the parents have no right to say no if the reason is that "boys aren't supposed to cook, the ought to do outdoor work only".

  • Gender equality means that men and women having their rights, responsibilities, education, and opportunities without discrimination on the grounds of gender. There are many ways to achieve gender equality in daily life, by sharing childcare and house chores equally. In addition, we can start by children in the schools and stop separating them. Encouraging them to work together it's a good way to teach them that gender is really don't matter. Also, stop old stereotypes like 'blue for boys' and 'pink for girls'. Finally, remember to be proud of who you are, and respect that everyone is different.

    1. you have a wonderful attitude, wonderful_attitude!!! :o)

  • Hi trustworthy_honeyberry. You make some interesting points. Why do you think International Women's Day is important?
