ECO-ANXIETY

This post was written by a student. It has not been fact checked or edited.

We know that eco-anxiety occurs when someone feels very worried about climate change and is all time thinking about the enviroment and its effects in future years. Although its a very controversial topic in the world and not all human beings suffer from eco-anxiety.

The Earth is suffering too much and is in very bad conditions because global warming , acid rain etc, and people think about the future of Earth and in the next generations because if the Earth is going to suffer like it is doing today it would dissapear and next generations are going to be left without a planet and they are going to die due to pollution, acid rain...

The people that are suffering more are people of 50-60 years and elderly people as they think in their sons and family as they are going to die in few years and they are not going to suffer more, however there are also people of 20 years that are also aware of it and are doing all the possible things to control this terrible obstacle and as we can imagine people less than twenty years (not all the people) are not thinking about this.

As I said before, people of our age are not thinking about this because they are thinking in other less important things , this is wrong ,as all of us , all humans in the world have to contribute on helping the climate change ,how can we do this ? Well , there are several actions that can stop climate change as reduce, recycle and reuse , switch-off ligths etc

I understand that people think about the enviroment in the future but instead of thinking and be worried we need to do helping actions that conclude the climate change , global warming ... and then if this is not going good then we need to worry about .

In conclusion we need to do all the possible things to this huge problem on Earth be over and that people with eco-anxiety also stop suffering because we don’t look after the planet , so we need to contribute in these actions.

  • I totally agree with you. I really love the idea of yours and this standpoint is marvelous.

Our planet, Earth is really suffering from climate change. But the things is no one is taking it seriously even though it is such a big problem. Sometimes, it feels like there is no hope for the future but if people start to do something about this problem from now, then we can still have some hope for the future of our planet. If not, then there is nothing we can do.

Only thing I can say about this is that we can encourage our family members, friends, teachers, other people to do something about it. As nowadays, social media platforms are being really popular, we can raise awareness through this.

    1. i agree because the standpoint is amazing our planet is needing our help to look after it we need to pick up litter if you see it one the floor our planet is our only planet

  • I believe that the worry and anxiety that shrouds many young people today concerning the environment and the burden that stands upon the human race and our owed stewardship to the planet (especially the younger generations) is certainly valid and incredibly important to the future of not only our species but the entirety of life on earth.

  • You're right because if we don't focus on it right now th next-generation will.be on danger and we have to save our earth by contributing in many events which helps to make earth less polluted.

  • Across the globe and specially in Pakistan eco anxiety rapidly increased due to flooding and climate changes. In Pakistan monsoon season affect our specific parts of country like Sindh,Balochistan and South punjab badly. Climate change is the main factor in ruining our countrys economy and infrastructure.
In 2022 we faced a worst flood ever in the history of Pakistan which causes more than 1100 deaths that includes 350 children. This flood also afffected more 33 Million people in Pakistan.
According to maganize reports Pakistan declared as the climate vulnerable countries in the world. Most Importantantly the loses were due to mismagment of government .Infact increse in floods closely related to climate change. If we make a graphical analysis of floods from 1995 to 2022, we can see increasing trends of floods and devastation. According to Asian developmnt bank reports in last 50 years ananual mean temperature increases by 0.5°C. By the end of this century the temperature in Pakistan likely to rise by 3 to 5°C. Also sea level expected to rise by 60 centimeters as published in IPCC 5 th assesment report for region of Asia which is very alarming indeed and make people eco-anxious who understand these stats. Exo axious people usually pretend to hide themselves by not listening to news about flooding and its deavatation in the country, but the sad fact is that they are people who actually understands all these phenomena and not taking part to at least maintain/reduce climate change. Another thing which i observe is that those people who are suffering from this flooding devastation is more eco-anxious as compared to unaffected flooding part of country. Because i have meet with my cousins family who was one of the affecte of flood.Their entire life changed.Their house, their animals, their schools ruined and still these childrens are out of school doing work in factory to earn for their family, as they loss almost everyhing they only survived but loss each and everthing. And definetly it take so long to recover completely their loses and assets but these people remain eco-axious till death.

    1. A really interesting comment that explains your experience - I am sorry that it has been very hard for your family. Do you think the government should make people sign up to insurance schemes? You would pay a certain amount of money each month, and if there is a climate disaster you get some money back to help with the damage?

  • Hi, Eco anxiety has affected a lot of people across the world and firstly i did not think about eco anxiety but then i started to realize how much of an impact it could make on others including me. So i agree with you all that its very bad and that people are suffering because of it and also that we do not look after our planet. I also understand that people are thinking about our enviroment in the future too. Our planet earth is suffering because of climate change because of us how we treat it to. The only thing that i can say about it is that we can maybe encourage our family members, friends even teachers to do something about it.

  • This is great and I agree. It would be great to persuade many to help the world. I have seen very bad things in my state, and it breaks my heart. I have seen pollution, *very* bad pollution. This is many seen around our capital because the city is popular. There is harmful pollution in the city. This can be seen near forests and streets. After some time, it can feel a bit scary to know that the city you live in is so polluted! It makes my heart ache and makes me want to tell so many people about this issue. I just hate having seen this in the world and others would too. The Earth is becoming even more threatened. Not only that, people, animals, and plants are also becoming threatened. We need to come as one voice to encourage others to help the Earth that begs for cleansing.

  • you’ve mentioned some solid and outstanding points, nonetheless we can both agree that it’s easier said than done. We’re talking about a world wide conflict here, realistically speaking only a little percentage of the worlds population agrees with you. So we’re sensibly fighting air. I pondered the solution of such issue, concluding that the only way out is if governments start taking things into their own hands, then citizens would have no option but to follow the rules, slowly improving the ecosystem.

  • First off, I would just like to say that this is a great standpoint.

I think that around now, it is the most important to take climate change seriously. Recently, there have been many big fires that have started all around the world such as Texas, Canada, Greece, Italy, and so on. While these fires may not be from our work, it still has affected pollution and climate change greatly. Many people, or so I hope, may think that this would be a crucial time for us to try to limit pollution and climate change; however, according to the annual 2023 global climate report from the Natural Centers for Environmental Information, the climate has hit an all time high.

Recently in 2023, climates have risen by 2x since 2010. In 2010, the average temperature anomaly was around 1 fahrenheit; however, in 2020, it has risen to around 2 fahrenheit. If we don't do something now, climate change will only continue to get worse, leading to worse climate change as it builds upon itself.

In order to try to prevent this, we need to encourage our loved ones and/or people in general to do something about it. Even if it may not make an impact straight away, every small contribution helps. If many people attempt to do something about climate change, it will eventually build upon itself and show positive results.
