  • I agree because while strikes can be a powerful tool for workers to fight for their rights and improve working conditions, they are not always the best solution. Strikes can lead to loss of income, disruption of services, and in some cases, violence. other options such as negotiation, mediation, and legal action should also be considered.

    1. Absolutely! You've highlighted some important points. While strikes can be a powerful tool for workers, they do come with potential drawbacks, including loss of income, disruptions, and the possibility of violence. It's essential to consider alternative options that can achieve positive outcomes while minimizing these negative consequences.

Negotiation is a key aspect of resolving conflicts and improving working conditions. Engaging in productive discussions between employers and employees, facilitated by mediators if necessary, can lead to mutually beneficial agreements that address workers' concerns without resorting to strikes.

Additionally, legal action can be a recourse for workers when their rights are violated or when negotiations fail to produce satisfactory results. Labor laws and regulations provide a framework for protecting workers' rights and can be instrumental in ensuring fair treatment and improved working conditions.

By exploring various avenues, such as negotiation, mediation, and legal action, workers can pursue their rights and interests effectively while maintaining a focus on resolving conflicts in a peaceful and constructive manner.

Thank you for emphasizing the importance of considering alternative options to strikes. It's essential to approach labor disputes with a balanced perspective and explore solutions that best serve the interests of both workers and employers.

    2. Strike can be a solution to employee problems, but dialogue and negotiation can be used as an alternative to strike. Common solutions can be found by dialogue and working together. And it is possible to determine who can be contacted through privacy settings, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. The strike can be replaced by negotiation and dialogue. Dialogue can be done by listening and understanding the different points of view and working together to find common solutions, but I understand the burden that will befall the specialists, so we can work on elections to allocate the minority of people To deliver our message to whoever is in charge, and so it will reduce the burden and inconvenience to the official, and if the officials do not agree, in this case, the whole world can communicate via social media, e-mail, or phone. The burden can be reduced by setting a specific time for communication. And if he also does not accept then resorting to other means such as mediation or resorting to the judiciary.

    3. I disagree with you loved_bell because strikes are actually intended for the opposite outcome of what you have stated: peace. I do agree with you completely, however, that riots such as conflagration, arson and brutality should not be tolerated since we are civilised beings who will earn things through compromise not force. Nonetheless, my other opinion still stands that strikes should be a form of protest since it can have a positive effect of future conditions, behaviour and income worldwide yet it can be done in a subtle way. People need to start realising that there are 7.888 billion people on the planet, of which 150 million are homeless, 700 million people are forced to survive on less than 1.80 dollars a day and 828 million people do not have enough food to eat thus in constant hunger. Do people realise that all of these numbers are in the unit of hundreds of millions of innocent lives born in poverty, living in poverty and trying to escape that poverty? Do they? I watched a documentary about the people in countries near the equator, mainly Ghana which provides 60% of cocoa beans used to produce chocolate. These people work more than 14 hours a day, 1.56 million of them being children trying to provide for their families. Typically, there are snakes camouflaged under the leaves on the ground and a boy stated that he was bitten by one when he was 6 years old! And all for 1.90 US dollars a day. Hence, I strongly believe people's voices need to be acknowledged to seize that one window of opportunity to get a better salary, a better life, a better world for everyone as a whole. Strikes are the light at the end of the tunnel, strikes are the knight in shining armour, strikes are the solution.

  • I agree strikes are not always the solution there can be a committee that would be set up to ensure that the government pay the workers salary on time so that workers would not consider going on strike. But I still think strike is the most effective way of workers getting what the want.

  • I agree with you that strikes are always not the solution .Because one can go on strike and there won't be a solution to the problem so is not always that strike is the solution.

  • When workers are unhappy with their job conditions, they may go on strike to demand change there are alternative ways for workers to negotiate with their employers. One option is collective bargaining where a group of workers work together to negotiate better pay and benefits. Another option is mediation, where an unbiased third party helps the workers and employers reach a compromise. workers can try to bring attention to their concerns through public protests or social media campaigns.

  • I agree with you when you say that strikes are not the best solutions to the workers problems and the thing is that strikes actually creates more problems than it solves such as; profit and income loss, disruption in the normal order or setting of activities in the society and also strikes leads to violence this is when the situation is not handled and allowed to escalate and the thing is that workers are unhappy with their working conditions and want some changes and the thing is that strikes are very powerful bargaining tool in getting change but it is not the best solution they are other alternatives to choose when striking such as dialogue, bargaining, mediation and choosing to offer their services for free as the transport workers are doing in Japan which is going to be effective in a very short period of time. Workers should know that even though strikes seems like the best way to get their conditions met they should know that it affects the public a lot.

  • Strike is not the only solution, but people think it is the best, easiest and strongest.
I say that the strike is not the strongest. There are other solutions, but all solutions have a negative side and affect the person or us.

  • When workers go on strike, it means they stop working to make a point. While this can be effective in getting attention, it's not always the best solution. Strikes can hurt businesses and the economy, and sometimes there are other ways to solve the problem. It's important to look at all options before deciding to go on strike.

  • I agree that strikes are not always the solution and today I am going to share a story that really effects my area in a bad way.As I am from Pakistan and when we give love and respect to anyone so remain loyal to him till last breath.
Our X president "Imran Khan" was arrested yesterday morning. He was living in the hearts of millions of Pakistanis. As the news got viral people became mad and came out of thete homes to tell the present goverment that we are with him till death.
People also say that he was aressted without no strong evidence and having no legal warrant.People do not even striked as well as harmed many buildings which were under control of government.Loss of lives and much more.
Today was board( a very high exam given for passing in matric and FSC).There are two main boards in Punjab (Federal board and Punjab board) which were cancelled today because of these strikes.
As you have seen that due to these strikes a very important exam of millions of Punjabis( people living in Punjab) was delayed. Many or almost all schools were closed. This made a loss of study as well.
Do you agree with me that strikes oftenly gives loss and damage and waste much time we should have another solution which comparitvely work should be implemented.Tell me any story like this which effect your area .

  • I agree with you because strikes are not the solution as they can lead to a lack in production for there are no employees to hep or aid in production. Strikes can also lead to loss of income as the workers do not receive the right amount or the right quantity of income worked for.

  • I agree that strikes are not always the best solution because some problems or complications can be solved easily without having to go on strikes but instead people will strikes go for strikes and the minor problems will be the major issues, we should try to solve the problems before reaching a conclusion. I agree that strikes can also help in solving some problems but not all, there some problems that strikes are the best option while some are not. Strikes can make a small problem a huge disaster, example a protest might happen because of a not too big of issue and that can cause harm to our society.

  • I agree because I believe that strikes aren't the only way to make your demands to be met. Instead I think that a better replacement for strikes would be protest. Protests can reduce many things that make a business go out of business like loss of income and reduction of workers.
    For example:
In Nigeria a company called NNPC some of their workers who are unhappy with their working conditions undergo protests which include wearing red headbands and singing protest songs in the morning for 30 minutes.

    1. I'm not sure because.....
even though it helps makes organizations change their workers conditions
protest can cause many disadvantages than strike
strike can affect the one going on strike if it was not effective on the organizations not the society
and if effective can affect the organization
but for protest weather its effective or not it can result to violence from both the one or group protesting and the organization the protest is carried on

  • I agree that strike is not always the solution because it has an negative Impact on peoples life for example ASUU went on strike because government don’t pay their salaries so they close the school and they send the student back home until the government announced that they should go back to the school. This made the students to miss out on their academic learning.
I will suggest for dialogue between the two parties involved instead of going on strike

  • I agree because strike is not always the best solution it could have powerful and negative impact on the people around them. just imagine every worker banks, supermarkets, schools, vets and even hospitals went on strike
every one will panic not knowing what to do. To me that's not fair but workers can go on strike of all the necessary actions are taken tp prevent strike are not met in order to get better working conditions.

  • I also agree with strikes are not always the solution but on the other hand these workers need to money to feed their families. It will also affect people's physical and mental health. With the cost of living rising and their salary staying the same it will be difficult for them to afford things for them and the family.People also strike because they work more hours than the money that they get.For example, doctors several hours and dont get the free time that they deserve.

  • I think strikes are not always the solution because if you're striking in the streets, the government are never going to listen to you, therefore the strikes are unnecessary. They are helping absolutely no-one and it causes disruption, stress, and annoyance to the public. They need to cease.

  • Of course strikes are a good way to get unsatisfactory working conditions to be heard, but aren't there any better ways to get your demands to be heard.
    For example:
Protests, protests can be a great way to make your demands to be heard and it can also make the disadvantages created by strikes to be reduced like, loss of income and loss of clients. Also strikes are a way to force an employer to accept a demand no matter what, but protests could be used as a way to promote socio-economic interests of workers.

    1. There are other ways to get your demands to be heard, however, when the government is not paying heed to the workers they have no choice but to go on strike. By going on strike, they might get the attention of the government. Therefore, I believe that a strike is the last option people choose if their demands are not been heard.

  • Strikes are they always the answer:No strikes are not always the answer , at least not in every situation, strike a great way to get workers voices heard. But what if those workers demands aren't met on time will the strikes keep on going what or what will the company do about it or what if they are government official workers will such as doctors, police, etc.
Personally i believe strikes is a good way to get workers demand met but what if they affect the community in a negative way what will they do are strikes really good way to have workers voices heard.
    For example
In my country nigeria. Stikes are taken by the power company for 4 days or less even though these strikes aren't long they affect the society in a negative way
In my country nigeria.strikes were taken in universities for over 5 month this affected students in a way they couldn't get admissions early and this didn't allow student to graduate early.
Strikes are a good way to have your voice heard but are they worth it if they have a negative impact in the society.
there are many ways to prevent strikes such as:Practicing empathy with workers, giving them a positive attitude while at work. These are one of many ways strikes can be prevented

  • From my point of view, strikes contribute to finding solutions to some problems, such as: poor workplace, low wages for workers, and others.
We have witnessed the spread of strikes in the labor sector in many countries, such as the United Kingdom and others, but on the other hand, the strike is not the appropriate solution so If the strike continues, chaos will spread and great damage will be caused to productivity, profit and collective action.
Workers' problems can be solved by law or positive dialogue, and this is better than a strike, so I agree that a strikes are not always the solution.

    1. Interesting convivial_rambutan, what are some examples of laws that present a positive alternative to strike action?

  • I agree strike is not always the solution because it could make things become more difficult for the people in the community. For example if a petroleum company is closed, the prize of petrol will increase and people will find it hard to buy petrol as such from the company people can lose their jobs because they go to the office late as a result of fuel scarcity. I suggest that they solve the problem between the two parties by having a meeting

  • I suggest that strikes are not always the best solution because you can strike and you can't get what you want some times because you might strike then your employee just fires you then you go back to zero. so some times we need to talk to our bosses politely before striking and to also think before acting because some times the bosses can set a rule knowing that people are going to strike yet they are testing them so that they can get good workers. in addition to that, some times people need to make up their minds before thinking of making a strike.

    1. Hi Open_Strategy - thanks for flagging the risk that an employer finds other people to do the work. Do you think this should be prohibited by law or, if people are happy to do the work on the existing terms, should they have the jobs?

  • Strikes are a form of collective bargaining where employees withhold their labor as a means of exerting pressure on their employer to meet their demands. While strikes can be an effective means of achieving concessions from an employer, they may not always be the best solution.

Firstly, strikes can have negative consequences for both employees and employers. Employees may lose wages and benefits during the strike, while employers may suffer from lost productivity, revenue, and damage to their reputation. In some cases, strikes can lead to permanent job losses or even the closure of a business.

Secondly, strikes may not always be effective in achieving the desired outcome. Employers may be unwilling or unable to meet the demands of their employees, leading to a prolonged and costly standoff. Additionally, strikes may not always be supported by the broader public, particularly if they disrupt essential services or lead to violence.

In some cases, alternative methods of negotiation, such as mediation or arbitration, may be more effective in resolving disputes between employees and employers. These methods can provide a forum for both parties to express their concerns and work towards a mutually beneficial agreement.

In conclusion, while strikes can be a powerful tool for employees to exert pressure on their employer to meet their demands, they may not always be the best solution. Other forms of negotiation and dispute resolution should be considered as viable alternatives to strikes.

  • I think that instead of a strike, a ministerial council should work with the president or the government and talk about the requirements instead of a strike, because as you guys work, it affects us a lot, and it is also possible to talk to the president about increasing salaries and reducing working hours, and if he does not agree, they can talk to the government and complain about it. This president and they can claim their rights like others. Of course, the government must meet their requirements so that they do not strike...

  • I disagree because...I know they might probably be different ways for workers to fight their rights but coming to realization i don't think would be a very powerful than that of strike. I strongly believe that strike is a solution but is not every time a Trade Union tries to use strike that it works. Even though strikes could lead to loss of income, disruption of services, etc but except these strike is the most powerful tool that could be used by a Trade Union and therefore most at times they are always they situation.

  • I agree with this standpoint. Striking does not guarantee workers their desired goal and doesn't necessarily create change. Striking can have a variety of other unintended consequences, such as an institution's reputation being destroyed and unhappy customers, who are expecting to be given service but can't, as most workers are on strike.

  • I agree because... While strikes can be seen as a means to address grievances and fight for workers' rights, it is essential to acknowledge that they also come with significant disadvantages. It is important to have a balanced perspective on the matter.

Strikes can serve as a powerful tool to bring attention to injustices, unfair labor practices, or unfavorable working conditions. They provide a collective voice for workers and can lead to negotiations, improved working conditions, and the resolution of disputes. Strikes can bring about social change and have been instrumental in achieving labor rights throughout history.

However, it is crucial to recognize that strikes can also have adverse effects. They can disrupt essential services, inconvenience the public, and cause economic losses for both businesses and employees. Strikes can strain labor-management relationships, leading to animosity and a breakdown in communication. Furthermore, prolonged strikes can lead to financial hardships for workers who rely on their wages to support themselves and their families.

It is essential, therefore, to explore alternative avenues of resolving conflicts and addressing grievances before resorting to strikes. Constructive dialogue, mediation, and arbitration should be pursued whenever possible to seek mutually beneficial solutions. Open communication and a willingness to find common ground can help prevent the need for strikes and mitigate their negative consequences.

Ultimately, strikes should be seen as a last resort when all other avenues have been exhausted. While they can be a powerful force for change, it is crucial to weigh their potential benefits against their potential drawbacks. Striking should be approached with careful consideration of the overall impact on all parties involved and with a genuine commitment to finding a fair and sustainable resolution.

  • I agree because strikes cannot always be the solution but it is also a very powerful tool. They can't lead to no production because they are not workers. Some problems can be solved without going on strikes but some people would like to go on strike
