WINNERS ANNOUNCED:
busy_song and honorable_penguin

We were blown away by your creative entries this week and the range of suggestions. Well done! We chose an exceptional winner from Michael Faraday School who had thought through what we thought was a viable business plan. We loved the emphasis on community cohesion. Our secondary school winner was from Portobello High; they considered the market, making a profit, celebrity endorsements and job opportunities, which we thought showed great business acumen!

A big thank you to honorable_conclusion too, who used their scepticism skill to remind us that, ‘As much as it is a nice and moral idea to give to charity, the business would need to earn money otherwise it would have to shut down.’

You can read the winning entries in the orange boxes below.

WEEKLY COMPETITION #10:
If you had £100,000 to invest in a business, what kind of business would you chose and why?

You can choose something that already exists, or you might like to create something totally new. We’d like to read good reasons for answer, so make sure you explain why you think your money would be well spent on that cause!

Good luck! Winners will be announced on Friday.

If I could choose a business to invest 100,000 pounds on I would invest it on a new healthy restaurant.
This would be so if someone was on a diet, they wouldn't feel left out on meals

Here is an example - Janny is on a diet. She wants to go to a restaurant with her friend Bobby. He took her to Mcdonalds. She wanted to carry on with her diet so she ordered nothing accept water. She felt left out as she was watching Bobby scoffing his food.

In this example it says how Janny feels left out because she is trying to eat healthy but if we had a healthy reasturant Janny could eat there with Bobby!

If I had 100 thousand pounds to invest into a business I would invest into saving the planet because even though I may not get an income of money or even get the money back I would play a crucial part in helping to save our planet. The particular foundation that I would choose to invest in is called Plastic Oceans. I am sure everybody is aware that plastic is everywhere, especially in the sea. I would like to hope that everybody is concerned about this problem and Plastic oceans is a dedicated charity which helps in may aspects to this problem.

On their website it says : The Plastic Ocean Foundation UK is the founding organisation and a United Kingdom Registered Charity, registration number 1139843.What sets us apart as an organisation is that we have a global view of the issue and have worked with scientists for 8 years, out on the ocean and in the laboratories. They also help to educate children and adults on this ongoing problem.

They seem like they are a very reliable charity and would spend my money wisely and on helping to save the planet. I would just like to point out that there is no point investing in other businesses if the world is going to be ruined by plastic in 30 years.

I would invest my money on what I would call the Sickle Cell campaign. I am a victim of sickle cell disease. In my body I have red blood cells like anybody else but mine are kind of crescent-shaped. This makes it harder for the blood cells to move blood around my body because my blood cells don't have enough space to carry the blood. If some blood doesn't get round to some of my body I start to get crisis's. I mostly get a chest crisis, but it can happen anywhere in your body. I have to be taken to hospital and this leads to missing a lot of days off school. I am missing my education and things that will benefit me in the future. Also, I want to be an actress when I'm older and my sickle cell disease kind of limits me to do what I want to do. My disease means that I cannot overwork and I can not get dehydrated. I'm in a lot of plays and things so that makes it really hard not to overwork. Sometimes I am so busy that I forget about drinking my water. Sometimes I even forget to take my pills that try to keep the crisis's at bay.
I understand what the people with sickle cell disease are going through, that is why I want to support them.
With the 100,000 I would go to different hospitals and pay for a station that will take place in a big room/area. It will be a place where children and adults can reach their full potentials. In this room they can be who they want to be. They can sing, dance, act and educate themselves in whatever they want. It will also be a place where they can all go and chill and support and comfort each other. We will be a community, we will be a family.

If i have 100000 i will give quater to charity and another quater to my whole family and the third quater i will spend it for a mansion or estate , if its over a quater and if i still got like under a quater the leftover money i put it in my wallet or inside my secret chamber , i don't want to store it at the bank because when you store it at the bank you lend them 270pounds , now that very expensive and i don't want the bank to make more money because the more they make , the less vaulable money is because there lots of them.

Personally, I’d like to invest £100,000 pounds into Something that has already been invented but with extra funding could expand further and widen the possibility’s for many young minds even the same age as me! And all of us!

I would invest in childline which is know world wide and helps to strength both mental and future of young children suffering and in need of help. With the extra money it could expand further and help even more children going through a hard time in there lives and searching for: a friend, somone to talk to, advice and even just a confidence booster to listen during struggles.
It states that you’d have to invest in something but to invest in something you: put (money) into financial schemes, shares, property, or a commercial venture with the expectation of achieving a profit. The profit doesn’t state it *only* being money so by investing in childline you’d be investing in the children’s future sparking their imagination and igniting their hope and creativity to make a difference in the world they live in even after struggling or having difficulties.
Overall, investing in childline would bennifit the children, the adults/elders and the world we live in making it a happier place and shorting the sadness and bringing back the hope lost during a bad time. Although we may not get back the money, we get the pride of knowing we can make more children want to make a difference and all following generations to come. I hope this idea is different and thank you for your time.

I would lend my money to a company ( I'm making one up) that uses recycled plastics and materials to create renewable or alternative to plastics. Companies are under pressure to reduce the amount of plastics they are using and they would by off the company I had invested in. Some of the traditional plastic products like...
    LEGO bricks,
    plastic bags,
    plastic rappers and packaging.
If I did this I would receive a lot of money for my company's (hopefully) succession and save one of the world's most terrible environment problems.
I got my information and inspiration from these sights.
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43390938
    https://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/green-tech/sustainable/5-plastic-substitutes6.htm
These are both really good sites to look at and gave me lots of ideas for how we can reduce plastic but also get a lot of money in return. I haven't used much reasoning yet so these are my reasons...
One: companies are under pressure to reduce the amount of plastic they use,
Two: My company would earn a lot of money and I would get lots back,
Three: This would help the environment too.
    Thank you for reading!!!!

If I had 100,000 pounds I would spend it in a football club , because if I win matches I can earn my money back.Whereas if I spent it in a game or something similar it might bring my money back , but it will take quite a long while .What made me think about this is that some people don't have the opportunities to spend it in a business probably they need medical equipment that costs a certain amount of money to keep them healthy or some people need shelter and they need even more than 100,000 pounds.People are not all the same some people can afford different things than others, thats why there are charities that help those kinds of people .Other people have different prospectives than others. When you see a homeless person on the street or a person in need that can't afford a special treatment ,some people just walk by and some stop and help. This can also be a cause of racism !

I would start a buisness for children who want to play a sport but can't because of an injury or illness. I would do this because lots of kids are being held back from doing everyday things and sports because of being ill or injured. They start to have to dream about doing sports because they're stuck in a hospital bed for who knows how long, and might not be able to do sports ever again. And this SHOULDN'T happen. Just becuse somthing went wrong in everyday life and got you stuck in a hospital, dosn't mean you can't do somthing you love and get active, fit and happy.

Personally, I would spend it on medical cause. Investigating curable medican for something that the world is suffering.
    LIKE:
.all kind of cancer(especially for young victims)
.any other which is effecting youngsters
.And others which are not curable (that can cause death) in countries around the world.

With that 100,000 pounds It would be either just right or not enough because we need :
.medical experts who we can rely on to create such things
.Objects, machines and others wich would help the investigation to be quicker and safer
    .a human body to investigate
.And all the items that the experts would need in order for this be successful.

Of course, this will result in many lives on this Earth which can be useful for this Earth. Also, that proudness and the name of saving the world will belong to me and the people behind this success.

I can not find any defeating point to say no to this bussiness because according to me and many others, a human heart is important and valuable than other bussinessess ( especially the ones that will only result with money only to one person)

After reasoning my options, i've decided that i would invest this money on a charity for people who need treatments, or suffer a disease and need help.

I think investing it on that would be smart, because there are a lot of people who need treatment and help, but can't afford it, and end up getting worse or maybe dying. I think I should do that because these people who are sick have done nothing wrong, they just can't afford living, and i can't think of a better thing to invest the money on.

In the beggining i thought maybe, i should invest it on homeless as they are also at risk of dying, and no one seems to be doing much about it. But that money could be spent wrongly for example for alcohol or drugs. I think if i were to help homeless I'd give them food or supplies but not money.

I also thought on investing it on a company like Amazon, as that would privilege me in the future. But then I thought that the company might not be as great in a few years, and if so it would benefit more to spend it on a good cause. I also discarded this option because there have been rumours of Amazon employees being treated badly.

In conclusion, I think spending the money on sick people would be the best option, as they need our help to survive, and are going through a very bad time. I think they deserve as much help as possible.

I would spend my £100,000 on a business that would help all charities. It would have a website where you could make an account and it would give you activities to fundraise for different charities. After you have done it (and maybe sent in some pictures of your fundraising) the business will take the money you raised and give three quarters of it to the charity you were fundraising for. The rest would be a profit for the business. In return for your work, you would get a small reward which would get bigger as you completed bigger and harder tasks. For example, for your first task, you might just have to sell people passing glasses of drink to keep them hydrated or have an odd socks day and get people to donate. As a reward, you might get something like a t-shirt. For bigger tasks such as a 5k fun-run you might get a box of chocolates.

I would do this because it would help out charities which are in need of some money to do what they do. If they get the proceeds of the fundraising, that would give them money to spend on their help of cancer research or refugees. It would give the business a profit (even if not by much) but still help out people in need (like people who need a cure for illnesses and diseases.)

I think I might choose to be a bankers boss because when the financial crisis happened there was not that much money left in the bank and because I have spent part of my money on my new business I would like to give bankers strict rules of how the money is saved and how it is given to the public. In addition why I would like to be an bankers boss is because when I spend part of my money on my new business I will keep some of the money in case there is another financial crisis that takes place.

If I had £100,000 to invest in a business, I would build more houses to help people that have experience in the financial crisis. This way less people will be homeless and this way you could make a good profit.
Also, I think that the less people homeless the better.
Instead of spending it for useless things, you could not only help the people but the world.
To make a profit, you could rent the houses to people instead of selling them.
The homeless people could be offered a job within the interior! This would earn back even more of the spent money. So many people would be happy, which I also care about while spending the money.
I think this is a sensible way to spend the £100,000.

In my opinion, I would use £10,000 to make a food bank business to support people who are homeless and have no money. Then I would build flats to help homeless people and encourage them to get a job so then they can pay back the business while they are earning money for themselves. This would then mean my business would get the money back they spent on flats and food. With the £40,000 left I would give to a charity where they would give to the countries in the world who are encountering war to bring children and adults so the children can get to school and are provided with food and housing. Then the adults would be able to go to work and have a house.

If I had 100,000 pounds i probably use for medical causes for people around the world,
    E.G
    -Cancer
    -Disability's
    -Heart Disease
    -Asthma
I think this would be smart because people who are ill need more love from people and they need more treatment from the doctors and i think they need a lot more of them in the world.

Company's like Children In Need(which is happening on Friday) they help and sort out people in need.

I would split it in half so that one half can go to a building contractor so they could build houses for homeless people otherwise if they are living on the streets in the cold they could become ill and possibly die.The other half would go to the NHS because every day they are saving lives and treating people for illnesses and if they were not here, half of the people that are on the planet would not be here today so i believe they are worthy of a reward just like the building contracts that are working to provide shelter to those most in need.

Personally, I would halve this great amount of money, and invest £50,000 each to the NHS and education. I would spend this because currently the NHS is a little bit of a crisis with the finacial problems, and the NHS can put that money towards big issues, such as employing more nurses or buying specialist equipment. I would spend the other half on education because schools do not have the money at the moment for the appropriate equipment and teaching staff that is crucial to supports pupils' careers. Both the NHS and education are losing money so careful investment would be needed to ensure that the organisations make a profit and not a loss. Then the money from the profit could be reinvested and this would continue so they would continue to improve.

If I received £100,000 I would invest it in the NHS because I believe that society would benefit drastically as the country is in desperate need for medical supplies.

There are a lot of citizens that cannot afford medical bills, this would then result in them getting a lot worse or even dying,so the donation would be a great impact on England. The NHS needs more medical supplies, which would cost a great amount of money, so the £100,000 would hugely effect the situation and create a solution to the problem.

The NHS would need more medical equipment and medicines that can cure incurable diseases and save many lives, which will be useful for the society.

I understand that this isn't profitable, yet it would benefit the country extremely well.

If I had £100,000 to invest in a business I would donate it to a charity (Oxfam is one of the many examples) that helps the poor. My reason for doing this is because they do not have enough money to spend and they are often going hungry, they have no/limited ways of getting water and they are often going cold at night- especially if they can not afford a house.

Helping the poor can mean that you are also helping children and families in poorer countries and parts of the world. You can give families enough money to buy food, medicine and clothes over a long period of time. You can buy water filters to help them get to clean water, which reduces the chances of them getting ill, and you can supply them with enough medicine to help them get better when they are ill. As well as that with the raising amount of money the children will be able to go to school, instead of having to work long and dangerous hours to help their families.

Oxfam is an international confederation of 19 organizations working together with partners and local communities in more than 90 countries. One person in three in the world lives in poverty. Oxfam is determined to change that by reducing the power that people have against poverty.

Therefore I would donate it to Oxfam.

Have you ever had those days were you thought boy I wish that this traffic was moving and then did you think what if there wasn't any traffic. This is the boring company idea and it is a fabulous. The tunnel will be dug underground buy a 'boring' machine and that one area will be incorporated with a Hyperloop. I would use £100,000 to invest in a cancer research online charity. The charity would employ scientists to investigate different methods of stopping cancer as chemotherapy is painful and extremely hard to perform. There would also be therapists employed to help people who have cancer or the family of people who have cancer that may or may not have died. This is because I have lost many people in my life to cancer. Also, using the internet means there would not be a cost for a building. Although there would be no cost for the services many people donate to charities. In addition, I would probably set up a television advert to raise awareness for the cause and have a link to get involved.
If, which I doubt, I had any money remaining, I would give it to education because this would help the future of England as it would provide children with a better chance to pass there GCSE's and A levels so they could become highly qualified in their chosen field of work and would know how to stop disasters happening in that profession.

For my business I would either use the money to build a charity for people that are not as lucky as we are. For example there are people in the world who don't have money, food or water so I'd set up a charity for them.

If I don't do that then I will use it to save the planet because waters are getting polluted and we all need to do our share of helping it get cleaned up. I would use some of that money to start a business that helps clean the waters of our world by getting better equipment to collect all the plastic in the parts of the world were their water is dirty with plastic such as some places near India and the Philippines.

Otherwise I would use the money to make a homeless charity because in some parts of the world like San Francisco in California they have homeless people on the streets all the time so I'd either make a charity or I would use that money to build a shelter of the homeless so that they could stay in the warm and you won't be seeing them in the middle of the streets shivering in the winter and looking for shade in the summer when hot.

If i had 100,000 pounds to spend on anything to invest on a business i would .....
I would start up a plastic free shop Linking back to two weeks ago when i won the weekly competition i said that plastic pollution was horrible but it is . So here it goes .

*Emailing* "oh hi how are you ?" please could i place an order for
Rice, pasta, laundry liquids , seeds, nuts flour and everything else you have got in your shop. If possible?
    Collection day :
"hi please could i collect my items " "sure just have a look at your list and the amount and take that amount out of the containers and pay and the checkout" "sure it will be fine" *gets things that needs*" That's everything ...i think?"
"In total that will be £87.45"
    *gets money out wallet**pays*
    " thanks bye " " no worries "

    At home:
"There we go only need 10 things from the shop and only seven things in packaging and the plastic free shop lasts for 2 WHOLE MONTHS "

There we go that what i would do with 100,00 pounds if i had to invest in a buisness
    Thank you for reading :-)

If I had £100,000 to spend on something, I would use £50,000 to build houses. Those houses would be used by the homeless people that may have experienced the Financial Crisis. to earn back the money, I would employ the people to jobs around the interior, as they would need the money to actually survive, because only having a house doesn't mean you will have the rest. With the other half, I would make a food business so that not only the people from my houses could get food, but everyone. As the money would pay back to me quickly, I would build more houses because the population is rising. I think this way you could help many amazing people :)

With our £100,000 we thought about buying a refugee camp, with tents that are cheap enough but strong. The money would gather around to buy medical aid resources, that would help us take care of the refugees. Also, with this idea we linked physical exercises and mental health. This idea will help thses families to enjoy their life more. We thought about including health experts from the NHS to support the refugees recovery.
We want this camp to be open to anyone who is homeless or an orphan.
To keep the camp going we would put charity pots where people can donate. We would also link with other charities to donate medical supplies to us.
For the physical health side of things we felt the government could lend us the money for these people. We would also gather volunteers to help us.
These ideas would help us make a better world. We thought about some Catholic charities supporting the foundation e.g. CAFOD because they do a job like this already.

I have given this comment a star as you have shown good reasoning by explaining that just because homeless people have a place to live, they will still need to earn money to pay for other expenses. It's also great how you've thought of creative ways to make sure that your business will continue to make more money and how you could use that extra to grow your business and help even more people.

Personally I think that it is incredibly important to feel passionate about where you would invest.I feel like I would need to invest all the money into a charity called Practical Action.

Practical Action is a dedicated charity to helping people who are vulnerable. This means they could help people in poverty and living in unsafe areas. Last year they helped 2.8 million people living in poverty.

If you think about it logically you are practically showered in money while some people are living in slums and are living of less than £3 a day. I think that this is unacceptable we are all humans and it angers me that some people are rich and do not even consider those poor people some of who do not even have a roof over their head. I would like to hope that everybody thinks like this but I understand that you might have other interests that you are more passionate. I hope that they have the same amount of importance though.

Personally,m I believe that we should invest in the palm oil issue that's ruthlessly murdering 25 orangutans a day so that we can have moisturizers and other find other solutions.
Ask yourself this: is it fair to murder innocent animals just to make us benefit our skin or looks or appearance? Is it fair to allow this? Also, ask yourself: Is it fair to sit back and o nothing?Do you want to make a difference?

If you are intrigued about this issue then you can go to: Greenpeace and sign a petition to help support this tragic issue that's striking the world.

I'd also like to say that if this issue has shocked you then please help the Indonesian orangutans and save a vulnerable, helpless animal today. Before it's to late.

If I had £100,000 to invest into a company I would create my own company. I would create a company only because I think not a lot of company now a days wouldn't have anything to help big problems. With my company I would specialize on helping the issue with palm oil. We would find another alternative for it. This would also help save the animals who live there.

I would buy a piece of land and grow that section of land filled with palm oil trees. This way I could cell it make more money for the company and stop people cutting down the trees. All of the animal who will go homeless because of this act is disgusting so this would help save there homes and let them live a better life.

What makes things a bit worse is how the Iceland video got taken down. Does this not make things look worse? Are they trying to hide something? Or is it the fact that Iceland may still use palm oil is some of the products they cell. I think if people knew where the oil came from they would refuse to use oil, of which is harming animals.

So in conclusion I would buy a piece of land to grow palm oil tree and cell it to get more money to regrow the land where the animals use to live. This way the oil will be made from trees which were not the home of many animals.

If I was given £100,000 I would invest in organizations or companies whose aims or ideas are to support and help others with financial issues and problems. One of the reasons I would do this is that if another financial crisis, or an equivalent, affected the world again then people would have someone to turn to for support and advice.

I do, however, understand that this company would also be affected by a crisis like this so instead of loaning and giving money then they would instead give advice and support which would not cost large amounts of money so they could continue to help others even whilst banks and other like business’ are struggling to keep even their own investments alive.

Another way in which this business will thrive and survive is that it will, wherever possible, stay free from banks are other external organisations to stay debt free therefore in isolation to the country's financial issues, therefore, being able to provide vital financial support and backing to those who are struggling to sustain their only source of income.

Environmental catastrophe, a huge problem that has been hidden from the spotlight by other problems around the world, at this stage of development in the human race: sea pollution, animal extinction and deforestation are all facing enormous problems that can be prevented with funding to charities like the WWF, RSPA and Sea Life Trust. The issue has been helped by programs and adverts such as Blue planet, Iceland's O Rang-Tang advert and Monkey Life but it is not enough we have to shed some light on this issue and make a change. That's why in my opinion I believe the £100,000 should be spent on sorting out the environmental problems the world tries to ignore or even worse hide, I hope you agree.

I would use the money for a sustainable alternative to Palm Oil. If the companies used a sustainable version , they wouldn't need to cut down the homes of orangutans for foods and shampoo.

Palm oil is literally everywhere – in our foods, cosmetics, cleaning products and fuels. Did you know that it is used in chocolate purely to make it shiny and so that it doesn’t melt as quickly? To me, this is a pointless use of a substance that is incredibly damaging to our environment. At 66 million tons annually, palm oil is the most commonly produced vegetable oil. Lots of people don’t realise this because it is disguised by a different title. People need to realise the sheer number of products it is used in.

Not only this, but it is also a source of huge profits for multinational corporations, while at the same time destroying the livelihoods of smallholders. Displacement of indigenous peoples, deforestation and loss of biodiversity are all consequences of our palm oil consumption.

It is used because of its low world market price and properties that lend themselves to processed foods have led the food industry to use it in half of all supermarket products. Palm oil can be found in frozen pizzas and biscuits , as well as body creams, soaps, makeup, candles and detergents. Despite its low market price, the cost of it on our environment far outweighs this.

Few people realize that almost half of the palm oil imported into the EU is used as biofuel. Since 2009, the blending of biofuels into motor vehicle fuels has been a major cause of deforestation, destroying the homes of many defenceless animals.

This is why I would spend the £100,000 to either find an alternative to palm oil or I would do what the company that produces Nutella have done: funded their own sustainable source.

If I had £100,000 to invest in opening a business it would definitely be in the Tertiary sector (selling a good or providing a service). My reasoning for this is that opening a Primary (extracting raw materials) or Secondary (manufacturing) business would simply be to expensive and not achievable to maintain within the price limit. I also believe that it would be much easier to get traffic into my business especially if I locate it in a town or city centre.

As to what kind of Tertiary business I choose; it is of my most supported belief that a chicken shop or fast food restaurant would the most profitable. The goods in which I would sell ought to be cheap, tasty as well as reliable to customers. Due to its cheap cost and bountiful amount - it will be suitable for even homeless people to afford a meal - some of whom may have experienced a great loss during the financial crisis. I wouldn't worry to much about the quality of the chicken or other hygienic matters since (as previously mentioned) my business would be more dependent on reliability and quantity rather than quality.
From the excessive amounts of money I receive; I would invest in opening more restaurants and gradually increasing the quality and variety of food. After a while I would donate 20% of my yearly earnings to charity preferably helping those without a home. Due to my charitable efforts, I predict that my company would gain publicity and hence help to expand my chicken empire.

My chain of restaurants would help the homeless and the economy (since after the homeless find shelter they shall begin to work) as well as helping myself - it is a win-win situation.

I would invest my £100,000 on trying to minimize deforestation. Did you know that we cut down a football field of the Amazonian rain forest every two minutes. According to Rainforest Action Network "Tree density in primary forests varies from 50,000-100,000 trees per square km, so the maths would put this number at 3.5 billion to 7 billion trees cut down each year.". Also, according to hraikesamazon "In every square kilometer there are 247.105 acres (8) this means there are about 200 trees per acre in the Amazon rainforest. So per acre in the Amazon rainforest 52,000 pounds of oxygen is produced every year.". This is devastating for people who live in the Amazon Rainforest , as we are cutting down their homes for our luxury and pleasure. For example, we use the land for farming and livestock. Do we have to pollute the environment because we want meat, furniture and many other luxuries. This is really unfair. Save people's homes and save the environment.

Because of many vaccines' reliance on stable temperature, they are very difficult to transport and are often rendered useless if not kept correctly. Therefore, vaccine parcels often can't last more than 5 miles on the road in refrigerated containers.
With new drone technology, however, these containers can be moved much more efficiently. Any company that could create specialised transport drones for this purpose could make a large profit from selling them to NGOs and pharmaceutical companies.

As well as this, my money will not only go towards manufacturing coffins and embalming bodies but it will also go to helping families cope with bereavement and counselling to help cope with the loss of a loved one.

If I had a second choice, I would use the money to help research with cancer treatments and prevention. I would like to help them because i have learned about how the refugees suffer and the hard things that they need to cope with, which makes their lives miserable. An example of this is the Rohingya refugee crisis which happened in Myanmar. I believe this is a good idea because they are having a hard time in life while others can relax at home without any worries. It will make a great impact on their lives and let them have an opportunity to enjoy their life. It is time that someone should stand up for their rights and help them to get through their harsh life.

I think that it will also make an impact on everyone else too. It can make people think about how lucky they are to live a life where they are not discriminated against. It can motivate people to help out to change the lives of the ill-treated refugees.

Also homeless people who don't get charismas present (even though I don't) will have some and feel loved. If they don't celebrate charismas they can have it has a normal present. For example, Jeff has be homeless for about 1 year. When it's charismas he see's everyone with a smile on their face and he feels left out. Meanwhile Jinan want's to make someone happy for charismas so she comes to the donation shop and donates a blanket, pillow and a tidy bear. If I had £100,000 to invest in a business, I would setup a community development business, which involves a combination of community workshops, a community coffee shop, community restaurant, community garden and community grocery with a community-selling place and a community advice centre.

In order to do this task, firstly, I have to look for a potential location, where all the local community can access which has a large garden with a building that can then be converted into four different departments named below:

    1. Community workshop
    2. Community Coffee shop and Restaurant
    3. Grocery and goods selling shop
    4. Community advice centre

I will spend 75% of the money to setup this business and keep 25% of the money in a savings account in order to use it to develop this business further and use it if any unknown emergency happened or use it for rainy days.

How to make money through this business:

    1. I can use the community grocery and goods shop to sell day-to-day important items to the people using skilful community sales people. The 75% of the profit will be given to those people as their wages and I will keep 25% of the profit. I can also use this shop to sell any unwanted items that belongs to the local people (such as old toys and used clothes). The 50% of the profit of these items will be given back to the person who brought these items and the other 50% will be given to a charity nominated by the person who brought these items.

    2. The community coffee shop and restaurant can be used as a normal day-to-day coffee shop and restaurant. I can use local chefs and people who have interests about catering business. The workers of this food place get 75% of the profit as their wages and I will keep 25% of the profit. This food shop I can use as a community entertainment and mingling place. The food in this shop can be sell to elderly/disable people and children much cheaper price than the normal people. Everyday, I can sell one special dish using different ethnic groups of my community chefs in order for the local community to taste his/her country’s food.

    3. In the community garden, I will divide the area into small plots and give these plots to the local community to grow fruit and vegetables and these fruit and vegetables can be sold in the community shop. I will keep 25% of the profit of these fruit and vegetables and the 75% of that profit will be given back to the person who grew these fruit and vegetables. I will involve local community (especially elderly people and children) to have an enjoyable experience of gardening and give them advice on how to do better gardening with a community adviser.

    4. I can use the community workshop to invite local talented people to create hand made goods such as jewellery, handmade ceramic items, paintings etc. The 75% of the profit of selling these items will be given to the person who created it and I will keep 25% of it. In addition, I can use this workshop to teach the local community how to create these handmade items through local experts.

    5. I can use the community advice centre to advice day-to-day problems community people are having, inviting professional advisory people in the community (Such as legal advice, advice about children, advice how to build business, advice to stop anti-social behaviour and, some medical advice through local doctors / nurses etc.)

The 25% of the profit I am having is used to pay the rent of the premises, council tax, electricity, phone / internet charges, water charges, all the other expenses, my wages and small amount of my profit which I can use to expand my business.

In my opinion, this business will be beneficial to my local community in so many different ways such as creating new jobs, joining other local businesses and organisations to help each other and also giving an enjoyable place which all the local people can share their ideas, organize fun games and trips. In addition, through this project, we can help ambitious local people to arrange small loans to help them to start their new business joining local rich entrepreneurs. Through this, we can develop my community. In addition, I can introduce this project to other communities to develop themselves, which overall; the country can develop itself through this idea. This idea can be introduced to all the countries in the world, so people can help each other and grow together to have a better future.

I would do this because in the UK 359,734 people were diagnosed with cancer in 2015.Out of this 163,930 people passed away due to cancer. This could increase but also decrease with research. However research costs money. So if we donate £100,000 we could research more an prevent this deadly disease before it gets worst.

If I had that amount of money, I would invest my money in a cure in HIV. I would do this because I have had relatives with this problem and it broke my hard knowing that they have to take pills every. single. day. It broke my heart how I soon learnt that their life expectancy dropped my 20 percent. It broke my heart knowing how a disease that dangerously powerful could be transmitted. You might be thinking, why not cancer? I simply say, we are close to curing it. That is why I would spend my 100 000 pounds in curing HIV.

If I had $100,ooo I would save 1/4 of it in case another crisis happened and I would spend 1/4 on hospitals so that people could keep healthy. I would spend another quarter on a big company like Amazon so that I could make money to invest it on other things. But, I wouldn´t spend all in a company because if it closed there wouldn´t be any money left. I would spend the 1/4 left on a charity to help people who need our help, for example homeless people would decrease and it would be better for them.😊

If I even ever had that much money(as a bank) I would defintely spend it on a good cause. I personally think Global warming is a serious issue, animals dying, climate changes, etc. Anyway, I would invest some of the money in a charity that helps this issue. Maybe helping with the great Pacific Garbage Patch which is a serious issue for sea creatures. Seriously, what did they do to deserve it?
Anyhow, another part of my money I would invest in Cancer, because millions of people die each year because of this terrifying disease. Especially for kids as they are too young to go through the disease, even though I would still give some money to help other people.
The rest of my money I would save (in my bank) incase anything else happened like a crisis or just anything in general.

If I had £100,000 to invest in a business, I would invest it in something which would positively impact the environment, but also possibly make me money. Something such as this would be new filters which filter plastic from the ocean. A company has started to make huge filters which filter plastic out of our oceans, and I would probably invest in something like that. If I did, I make make money if the company does, and if the company does not, I would still have helped the environment in some way. As well as this, it would lift some of the pressure off the government to help the environment more, so that they could spend more money on te health service and education, benefitting everyone, including me. However, would this be my money or would I be given it. If I was given it then I would definitely spend it on what I have mentioned, but if I already had te money and it was coming out of my living, then I might be more hesitant to invest it in anything, just in case something bad happens. If I had more money to spend than just £100,000, which is not very much considering, then I would be able to make a bigger impact.

If I had 100,000 pounds I would set up a shelter for the homeless people for 50,000 and with the other 50,000 pounds I would give it to the NHS because they help lots of people's lives.

I would also set up a van which I would cook food on then go to as many homeless people as I could and give them the food for free and give them a blanket and pillow to sleep with. I would also give the money to charity so they can help the homeless to.

I wold invest half of the money in a charity like Children In Need because their work is very special to children who have disabilities and have conditions which others don`t have and the other half would be for people who don`t have a home and are homeless form the Financial Crisis.

I would choose to invest in a worthwhile charity such as the SVP or cancer research as they are funded by the public and without the funding they are given they would have no money to help people in need and support them in what they do.

I am skeptical of this idea. If you had £100,000 to invest then surely you could set up a business that did this. This would be easier as you would know the money giving to others was genuine and you would also be sure that you were not the only person helping as you could get other people involved.

Weston Favell Academy 15 Nov 2018 in reply to busy_song's comment

On your number one idea, I am skeptical . As much as it is a nice and moral idea to give to charity, the business would need to earn money otherwise it would have to shut down. Also, some people refuse to buy used items which means you will have a smaller market and therefore not earn as much money.

I would probably spend around £60'000 buying a food chariity or help the poor or would also create a sanctuary so the homless have somewhere to live. the rest of the money (£40,000) i would probably spend the moeny with my friends or give even more moey to the homless because

    1. I think i deserve the money and giive half of it to the poor
    2. The poor do need money and clothes
    3. who wouuldn't want £20'000 to spend on themselves.
Althogh if i don't have enough money to buy the business then ill have to borrow money from the bank, and what if i can't pay the mortgae than the business will have to shut down and i could potentially loose my house aswell. This is like the man who bought a magazine business but it wasn't doing well and not making money so he couldn't pay back the mortgage. So the bank had to force him to ove out of his house and he had to lve in a hostel. I don't evn know what a hostel is but i don't think i would want to live in there for one bit. If this was real life and i really did have a business and it shut down then i would be in a very sticky situation.

Please reply and what would you choose??????????

If I had £100,000, I’d buy Toys ‘R’ Us as they seem to have closed down. The main reason it closed down was because everyone nowadays doesn’t walk to the shop and buy stuff from the internet. So, I’d also create an online website for people to buy toys. For the people who didn’t have their money payed back I’d make a deal: For every £1 they’d lost, I’d pay the 2p. If they’d lost £20,000, I’d only have to pay £400, 1/125 of what money I had in the beginning (£100,000). The rest of the money I’d just pay for people to deliver all of the toys. Slowly, increasing all the time, the money would start rolling in, I could be a millionaire by the time I’m an adult! By that time, I could start donating to charities though my main idea is to then give money to NHS so they can save the lives of more people!

If I had £100,000 to invest in a business, I would invest it in a recycling company. I would want to buy the technology to recycle materials that are usually difficult to recycle like paper coffee cups. At the moment these can only be sent to two recycling plants in the country, which means that most of the coffee cups people use end up in landfill sites. I would like to do this to help the environment and the animals that live on this planet. Lots of our rubbish end up harming animals on the land or in the sea. I love animals and want to protect our beautiful world, so I think this would be a great investment.

We would invest the money in a technology company. The world's technology is always improving, so this is a growth area. People always want the latest technology, and most people have it or want it in their homes or with them. This means we could make a lot of money, and meet a demand. It would mean that everyone was happy - customers with the technology would be happy, and the business would be happy because they would make a good profit. It would open up jobs as well. It could expand to do things like provide data services and work with different companies. With new jobs, people would have opportunities to do work they enjoyed. Some famous people might use our products, and that would mean other people would want them. Most people use technology so there is a huge market. If the company makes lots of money, it could then use some of the profits to support important causes, like environmental causes.
