Knife Crime

FeaturedImage_Crime_8.jpg

So many people have died to knife crime over the last year and people are pleading it to stop.

There were 1299 offenses up to the the end of April. In February more than 250 knives and swords were seized across London in just one week and 283 people, many of them teenagers, were arrested for carrying them. This shows that a lot of the people that are doing the offenses are teenagers and they should not be carrying all the dangerous weapons that they are. All the victims have been very unlucky that they are the ones that were attacked but it could be anyone. EVEN YOU. This is such a scary statistic, that have been so many crimes over the space of a short amount of time. Everyone should be carfeful on the streets and be aware of your surroundings and not be on your phone and see if there are any suspicious people or things taht could be dangerous.

EVERYBODY STAY SAFE AND BE AWARE!

    Hi radical_lute,

    Thanks for your post!

Statistics can be scary. We often focus on the biggest and scariest figures which also makes a situation seem even more extreme.

Here are some facts which might put the issue into context for you and make it less scary:

    1. The area of the country that your school is in (South East), has one of the lowest levels of knife crime in the whole country.
    2. The UK is one of the safest places in the world to live.
    3. The very large statistics you gave were for carrying weapons rather than deaths from knives. From January to November in 2018 there were 272 deaths caused by knives. There are over 66 million people in the UK. So this number of deaths is very very low against the population. It's still a serious situation as the figure has grown, but it's important to put into context.
