Different poems, different perspectives.

I worked on a post using other people's perspectives. Here, I've turned some of those into some poems as part of my final piece...

These are all fictional and not my real opinion. All on gangs...

The accepted child...

"They accepted me, respected me. Treated me like a human, and gave me treats. They complimented me, have me easy work, distracted me from my grief, and became my role models. They were like a family to me, my gang were. They got me into trouble, but they knew me, interacted with me. That's more than I've ever had. They're not bad people. They take in children of The streets and give us company. I love my gang. My family. The group I go around with."

They gave me respect,

All they did was reflect,

The mum I never had,

They gave me a dad.

These people in bad,

Really they're just sad,

When they make us scared,

We're both not prepared.

They're humans too,

Although they're precious to few,

They have me the chance,

To be happy and dance.

They're my team,

And to you it seem,

That these people should not be part of my home,

But with my gang I'm not alone.

This poem would be the child who gets received on by a gang, perhaps the early stages where they're good people who have given you some sorting attention and care. This person feels quite strongly about how a gang is.

The disapproving side.

"Disgusting and shameful groups of people who embarrass us and themselves. They waste their lives and ruin ours. Gangs. Horrible terrible people. No one likes them, and we DON'T care. I have no pity and DO NOt forgive them. How many people's lives have they ruined by these trouble makers. I hate them! I hate all of them! If they weren't on This planet, would you hear of all these murders and terrible, terrible crimes. Why, wouldn't this would be one million times better without them."

Without them, we'd be in a high,

But they're treacherous faces shouldn't see the sky,

I avoid them whenever I can,

And feel good when the police call them up for a scan,

Why if I were then I would be so ashamed,

If I were deserted I would not feel betrayed,

for it is silly that they are alive,

I suggest we lock them up and stuff them inside.

This was an interesting poem, because some of the things in there were quite outrageous, but do you think like that, or anyone else? Because some lines in that may be true!!! Some people Do avoid them, but sometimes they're right, for safety!!! I do not think it is ok to call HUMANS things like that, but ganggangs may have distant symbols of something similar.

The middle side.

"I see gangs quite often. They aren't bad people. They just get mixed up in the wrong people and places. They are quite friendly really. They simile and wave, when we give them a chocolate been that thank us and eat it like there's no tomorrow. I've seen lots of lonely people welcomed into their group. But their not that great either. They carry knives and threaten. I ran way once because I saw their boss screaming and swiping a dagger around their alley. They fight over land and are often involved in crimes, or at least they seem to be around when their has been criminal activity going on. But I can't help liking them. They are humans like me after all."

I'm torn between two,

I don't really know who,

Has a reasonable argument for both.

I feel sorry for these people,

Whose lives are NOT equal,

And can only live my acting against the law.

But in the other hand,

I can't understand,

Why they would even attempts forbidden acts.

If I were them,

Either of the women, children and men,

I would try and change my life around.

My opinion.

Gang members, you see,

They're just like you and me,

They don't seem to cause much harm,

But once they do they loose their charm,

You would be accepted and part of a family,

But you would merely be part of a strategy,

To do something very wrong,

Not part of a joyful song,

These people laugh or mean,

To cause what it really seems,

But one solution is easy,

though at first it may seem cheesy,

More police on the streets is the way,

We can change our country in THIS way!!!

More police, more police,

Do you want an increase,

Of crime, crime, crime, crime, crime?

If we get more ladies and men,

Who save us again and again,

There will not be the opportunities of crime, crime, crime, crime, crime.

Putti by visible police,

Will help turf wars cease,

Less, crime, crime, crime, crime, crime, crime.

With all my reasons,

It is more obvious than seasons,

That police men are the end to (gangs and) crime, crime, crime, crime, crime!!!

You've shown creativity in your storytelling here by thinking about different perspectives and bringing out different nattaive voices in these poems.

Can you pick out one or two of the voices and consider- what would it take to change their minds?

      Thank you for the star!

They accepted me, respected me. Treated me like a human, and gave me treats. They complimented me, have me easy work, distracted me from my grief, and became my role models. They were like a family to me, my gang were. They got me into trouble, but they knew me, interacted with me. That's more than I've ever had. They're not bad people. Against this...
Disgusting and shameful groups of people who embarrass us and themselves. Why, wouldn't this would be one million times better without them.
If both of these opinions looked at what each other though, they could see things more like this...
I see gangs quite often. They aren't bad people. They just get mixed up in the wrong people and places. They are quite friendly really. The accepted child could take in things from "They waste their lives and ruin ours. "
This may be a bit extreme, but that child can see from evidence that up until Sephton changed his life, him being alive was worthless.
The other side could take in the fact/opinion of "They complimented me, have me easy work, distracted me from my grief, and became my role models." For that may be true.

People like me (especially) could see that gangs are very similar to using more than one way. I could see that at first, they don't mean any harm, they may just join because...
      • fitting in with friends and other gang members
      • feeling respected and important
      • to be protected from bullying or from other gangs
      • making money from crime or drugs
      • gaining status and feeling powerful.

I like the idea of having different perspectives to different crime.
