Was Elon Musk's Falcon Heavy project necessary?

In February of 2018, Elon Musk sent a Tesla Roadster into space with the mission of orbiting Earth. Quite a few people believed the video to be a hoax fabricated by Elon Musk to make flat earthers believe that the earth was a spherical shape (not a flat one).

But was this necessary? Did this change the minds of flat earthers? To answer this question, you must first think about how much the project cost and what the benefit was. In this case, the benefit was substantially lower than the cost, meaning Space X and Tesla used a shocking 90 million USD to build a rocket with a car within.

Yes, the purpose of the Falcon Heavy project was to create a reusable rocket, but placing a car within said technology was nonsensical. Did this video convince flat earthers that the Earth was round? No, as the people who were criticizing Musk were flat earthers.
