Trump's 'Space Force'

What is Trumps ', Space Force'?

Information from: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/why-trump-wants-a-space-force-for-the-final-frontier/2019/02/19/aac0b1ee-349d-11e9-8375-e3dcf6b68558_story.html

In my opinion, and research from the Washington DC news clearly shows that Trump wants a new 'Space Force' to help the military. The Washington Post states:

'Satellites make much of modern warfare possible, through GPS systems, wireless communications and sophisticated weather forecasting. This makes them tempting military targets. The U.S. Air Force has been responsible for defending American satellites and spacecraft. President Donald Trump said in 2018 that the perils required a new military branch, an idea that came to be known as the Space Force. The idea was popular with crowds at the president’s rallies, but not with Pentagon officials or many in Congress. After months of debate, Trump signed an order creating a more modest Space Force that would sit within the Air Force, similar to how the Marine Corps sits within the Navy.'

To conclude this question, trump would like a space force to help if in any case, the U.S is going to war or to target other countries.

What would the militant force do?

Washington:

In a report to Congress released in 2018, the Department of Defense laid out a plan to build a new force to defend U.S. interests in space with aggressive offensive capabilities. This would include systems that could “degrade, deny, disrupt, destroy, and manipulate adversary capabilities.” The force would hold joint space training and military exercises with U.S. allies.

In this question, the Washington DC post is trying to say that the bicameral legislature of the federal government of the United States had a plan to create a new militant force to protect the things in space the U.S is investigating and uncovering. Furthermore, this force would have both space training and military exercises' which is not done very often- probably never done before!

Is there a true threat in space?

Yes, but not in the Hollywood sense of alien invaders attacking lower Manhattan. The main threat is the ability to disable or destroy an adversary’s satellites from the ground. In 2007, China first used a ballistic missile to destroy its own old weather satellite orbiting 535 miles (861 km) above Earth; Russia has been testing a missile that could be used to strike and destroy a satellite or ballistic missile. It’s likely that other nations won’t be far behind. If you destroy a spy satellite, the flow of real-time intelligence from a particular spot in China or Iran could stop. A communications satellite that’s jammed from the ground could mean ground troops suddenly find themselves operating blindly. And because existing international treaties governing space are unclear, even civilian satellites could be targeted by nations looking to contain or punish their enemies.

What Do I think on Trumps 'Space Force'

Well, everyone who has been introduced to space topics most likely is talking about Trumps 'Space Force' I put Space Force in apostrophes as he wants to have an unusual force but not many people agree to it. As for my side and opinion, I think it could be either- yes or no. I could agree and see where he is going with this because- yes. I do understand why he wants space force. When I was researching this story, which I did a lot of, I found out that many papers and normally biased papers were all agreeing to each other. Most of them had stated that Donald Trump, President of the United States of America would like to establish a reliable, and honourable militant force, costing about $2 billion for the protection of his country and their allies.

In contrast, I do also believe that there is no point in making an intergalactic space force as it would cost a lot and could potentially leave the country in a huge poverty issue, even though the U.S has about $630 billion (in 2019). I know what you are thinking. $2 billion dollars is not even that much then, then I hope you think about the funding, the training and the exercises equipment they will need. Moreover, imagine a scenario where the US did go to a military fight or to war, do you not think that by the end of the war they could be bankrupt?

Trump’s Space Force is billed as a new branch of the US military and will be used to fight wars in space. The idea is that it would be in place by 2020 and would be used to combat threats from other countries such as Russia and China.

In some ways, I can see why this might be a good idea. Satellites are essential these days for communication and navigation. Countries might target other country’s satellites as a way to seriously hinder their enemy’s ability to communicate. At the moment, there is no way of fighting against this and it is possible that if satellites were destroyed there would be major disruption. Having a space force might be one way of defending from space.

On the other hand, it would be incredibly expensive! The price tag hasn’t even yet been determined. How can you put something like this in place when you don’t know how much it’s going to cost? Wouldn’t this money be better spent defending from threats here on Earth? In addition to this, many people say that it is a threat to global security. Putting weapons and a space force out there could lead other powers to assume that their satellite systems were at risk and could severely damage relationships between countries.

Trump wants the military to become astronauts. In my opinion, Trump is going to spend too much money and he is a dogmatic man he just does not listen. Finally, NASA has not launched a rocket to the moon in years. Elon Musk[the maker of Tesla] has created a rocket called Space X. If you want to launch a rocket to the moon, trust Space X. Also, he has launched a Tesla orbiting the moon. In addition, India has tried to launch a rocket to the moon but it was not successful.

I think that Trump should not build a space force as this appears to be a challenge for other countries to try and make better and more technological machine that has more features. This is one of the main reasons why war is caused. A good thing about this project is that launching a space army would give us experience in future wars.(which I hope don't occur) Launching this can also trigger issues between prime ministers and their countries.

Thank you for hearing me out.

I think this is a fantastic post but a difficult scenario that the USA now finds themselves in. From the research I have made, I have gathered that Trump would like the space force would be used perhaps in wars that are in space. It would also be to appose threats from countries such as China or Russia.

On the one hand, in this day and age, we use satellites a lot as they are vital for navigation and communication across long distances. As they are so important, one could see why they would be a target for enemy countries. For this reason, I can see why Trump would want to protect them.

However, this project could potentially cause a massive financial loss as the end price result will only be released in congress, 2020. With thousand already losing their lives because of this it is certainly a matter of debate. Also, as said by brilliant_blackberry, why put something in place if you are unsure of how much it will cost? Furthermore, would adding all this protection, anger other nations as it may come across as a sign of power or a threat.

In conclusion, I am not 100% sure it is really worth it as there are so many elements that could fail and may cause tensions between other countries but it is still a very complicated issue.

My thoughts on Donald Trump and the Space Force is that there is no need for it now. The problem I have with Space Force is that we could be releasing this new Space Force in the future where technology could be a lot developed than it already is now and sending it out next year or whenever Trump has plans to send the Space Force would have a small reason to because they probably don't even know if other countries are in the future going to destroy their satellites. Also even if they know that countries are planning to destroy their satellites they probably wouldn't not have much time to react and could potentially start a war on other countries because of their satellites, which could lead to countries using nuclear weapons and have a big impact on the future causing immense amount of damage to the planet.

I actually think that putting weapons in space is going to be the most terrible idea Trump has had. Firstly, it will affect the USA’s relationships with other countries, and not in a positive way! If I was, for example, the leader of a country that didn’t have wholly positive relationships with the USA, I would immediately feel either suspicious of why he felt the need to introduce a space force or I would feel like he didn’t have trust in my country.

Secondly, it is very expensive and a waste of money. The main reason I can see for having a space force is to protect satellites from being damaged and destroyed by other countries. However, although the United States, Russia, China and India have demonstrated the capacity to destroy satellites, it has never been used in warfare and countries have only ever shot down their own satellites. What’s the point in spending money on something that isn’t actually necessary?

In conclusion, even talking about the possibility of a space force is a negative thing. Trump is pre-empting a type of warfare that is not yet happening and I feel that, actually, by doing this he could encourage other countries to do the same, which might actually lead to war!

I read an article recently about what Norway is planning to do to protect its satellites. Rather than the introduction of a space force, it is going to include anti-jamming and anti-radiation technologies to protect its satellites. In my opinion, this a better idea because it’s far less threatening to other countries plus you don’t have to put people into space which means it would probably be less expensive in the long run.

I think that there is no need, at the present time, for Donald Trump to be creating a ‘Space Force.’ In March this year, the White House asked for $74.2 million dollars to fund the Space Force Headquarters. In my opinion, that’s far too much money to spend when the threat of ‘space terrorism’ or ‘space warfare’ is so low.

Only four countries in the entire world even have the ability to destroy satellites using anti-satellite weapons, and one of those countries is the USA themselves! Can Trump really be saying that he wants to spend $74.2 millions dollars to protect the US from three countries (Russia, India and China)?? If he is worried about war, wouldn’t he be better spending this money on other forms of defence, like the army and the air force?

Another possible reason I can see for Trump being so keen on having a space force is for the USA themselves to be able to use ASATs (anti-satellite missiles) to disrupt other countries communications. I hope that this isn’t the case, because I hate to think about someone deliberately wanting to start a war, but if I can see it as a possibility I am sure that leaders of other countries might see it this way too.

    It is a dangerous thought…

I’m not saying that Trump shouldn’t put money into space at all, just that investing it in a space force is a waste. The threat of war or terrorism here on Earth is, at the moment, far greater than the threat from space so if Trump wants to spend money on defence, he should be spending it here.

Personally, I think that having a military is a waste of money and fuel (greenhouse gases), it would not be good as it may distinguish other country's trust for America as there will be an army in space with weapons even though there was a law made in 1967 which does not allow weapons of mass destruction in space it will still make some world leaders angry that he gets his military in space . Also, Trump could be spending these 2 billion dollars on something else I believe is more important, like free healthcare, climate change, literally anything else that helps the world rather than scaring a lot of countries and protecting us in case of invading aliens. I think Trump also wants this because he will gain a lot of power over other countries having a military in space.
Though on the other hand we might feel a lot safer having a military in safe, protecting us against anything coming our way that might harm us.
I agree with my first paragraph more though as there are more points/reasons to why he should not do this.
Really I think Trump should be worrying about his people of America more than his military being in space as in 2016, 43.1 million people lived in poverty according to the official measure.

I think Trump's "Space Force" is not neccesarily a bad thing. When space becomes more common and normal to go to, wars could potentially break out and people would need protection like they do on Earth. Trump shouldn't have to make a Space Force but this is just how it is with us, humans. However, training them would be unusual and hard because there is no gravity in space. Also, other countries might make a Space Force but if a lot of countries make one then we might run out of room in where we can go in space and that would be very bad as we could crash into them with a rocket. In conclusion, Trump's Space Force is a good idea.

Donald Trump's plan on creating a space force is a ridiculous idea in some views but in others,it might possibly be a smart decision.

He says ,''We have to be prepared,'' in the Oval Office. He made plans on creating a Space Force to the lead military service responsible for space missions. This is to expand his power and to also show the world the country's wealth as it costed a whopping $13 billion dollars including the $550 million dollars spent on additional International Studies.

Why do we need a Space Force?

Pence has made the argument that space is a "war-fighting domain" and that other global powers like Russia and China are already treating it as such. That phrase echoes what some in the Air Force have been saying for months.

The stakes are high. Much of our 21st-century economy and lifestyle -- from bank transactions to weather forecasting to television service to the GPS directions guiding you on your vacation road trip -- depends on satellites functioning round the clock and without interruption. The military depends on them too.

But space right now is a bit like the Wild West, with a wide-ranging mix of government and commercial satellites, all of them sitting ducks.

We've even seen an instance of target practice: In 2007, China shot down one of its own satellites -- mission accomplished in its own right, it also littered orbit with potentially destructive space debris. Many saw the operation as a veiled display of military power.

On one hand it is a good idea to be creating a Space Force because CNET News say that they have found out that China has shot down one of its own satellites as a 'mission in its own right' and the US are protecting the satellites of many other countries and mainly its own due to the fact that the world essentially depends on them for GPS location, WiFi, Mobile Data etc. and if the world was to lose all these satellites, the connectivity would be gone.

However it could have a devasting effect on the US because as they wanted to expand their forces, it will make the US Air Force less effective for the reason that they will be sharing the same commander of the US Air Force with the US Space Force - John ''Jay'' Raymond - which causes them to be having more attention and spending billions of dollars for the US Space Force over than the Air Force. If you were to compare it with other countries they are combining their Air Force with Space Force (for example China).

In conclusion, I think that it is a good plan for creating a Space Force because it can help to save many satellites from certain countries and from future damages or attacks. Additionally, it prepares - as Trump said - the people for future cases and attacks that could happen in space or attacks that will have a consequence on space.

    Well, what do you think?

Donald Trump shouldn't introduce a space force because there aren't going to be any wars in space and plus only if we introduce more advanced technology the bullets are just going to float so there is no need to have a space force

I think Trumps space force is not a good idea, why would you want to deploy a space force it might repel life on other planets and if Trump wants to take over space he could make toll stations and make you pay a lot of money. If any other country wants to have a space force they could start something they will regret, and we don't want that do we. Anyway because in space their is no gravity, the bullets will just float even if they develop the correct technology the bullets or what ever they end up being, they will still end up floating. So i think Trumps space force is not a good idea!

I think this is a bad idea because to spend millions of dollars on a space force when they already have Nasa. Also to arm a space force and train them with the US army is a total waste of there time. As well I do not agree that they are going to have world war 3 in space.

In my opinion, i believe that his idea is not very beneficial for him because the chances of space war are so low that it would be pointless taking his army to space. In addition to this, if they all die and America is challenged a war then the army would be nothing.

Bear in mind they would still have their 'usual' army on the ground, and air force, and navy.

I don’t think that Trump should make a space force because we should keep space a peaceful place as it is and it is also hard to train a large military force and get them up to the moon. Also other countries, such as Russia and China, could see Trumps space force as an act of aggression and create their own space force.

I don't think that Trumps Space Force will be very useful, because if there are aliens coming to attack, nobody will know what kind of abilities they have, or what weaknesses they have. the U.S may have a lot of money, but if they carry on, then they may be in a bad financial position, because sending just one shuttle to space costs a lot of money and Donald Trump is planning to send a whole army to space.

It is not worth it. We have lots of power already so why do we need more power. Is it necessary...I think no.Cant we leave some things natural. This will cost money that could be used to solve poverty and famine, drought and knife/gun crime. It would be a waste!

My opinion on ` Trumps space wall` is that I do not think it is relevant because even if there are life in space it is impossible to start a war there as here is no gravity and the ammunition will just float around. So I think it will be a wast of money as it will not be useful out in space.

I think that having a space force would just be a way for Trump to assert his (supposed) dominance. It would show that America is innovating and exploring and making its-self at home in arguably the harshest environment we know of. It is my belief that space exploration should be governed by an international body of highly qualified individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds who can make informed decisions on what will be best for the future of space exploration and discovery, and not just what will assert dominance. I believe that the billions of dollars which will undoubtably be spent on this project could easily be spent on something much more worthwhile, such as the US's failing health and school systems.

It is very unnecessary due to the fact there will be nothing to fight and no one to fight and if you think about it, it's extremely ridiculous since there are bigger issues on earth and Trump is thinking about intergalactic things.

I think Trump's space force is a bad idea because I do not see the point in setting up a part of the military to defend USA from a war that is not even set to happen however I do get that China and the US are locked in a trade war and they the present to each other a potential treat and that Trump is supposedly thinking tactics but this is to far.

I think that Donald Trump is using this issue as a way to get backing for military investment. Most people would agree that the Earth isn't under threat from aliens, however, the future of warfare is technology, and a lot of that technology is made possible by satellites. In makes sense then, that whichever country has the most sophisticated satellites, or whichever country controls which satellites remain in orbit, will have the advantage when is comes to security or threatening other regimes.

I think that space exploration is for everyone and the fact Trump is making a force JUST for America I personally find unjust. Every country has a right to equal power and credit and this decision is disobeying this right . Either we all get a force or none of us do and I will stand by my reasoning for this . This may also disrupt the population for the USA and other countries because most people want to be proud of their country/continent.

Here are some reasons for both sides of the argument.
On one hand, there is no current threats from other countries in space so a t the current moment investing millions of dollars that could be spent on reducing poverty is not necessary.
On the other hand, if a potential threat arises then a space force would be able to react and keep everyone safe. I agree with inventive market, on the other hand, a war could start because of Trump's space force, in my opinion, we have enough war in this world.

    What do you think?

I think space force is a good idea because India and Russia are lonching rocket continustly to get to the moon if we we had a space force they would have the right equipment to linchpin a rocket and sesesfully do it.Addding to this, it would be good as we could delvelop our shareing and team work around the would. We could also get to meet new people when doing projects and most importantly it could make us humans more incotral of space.

To conclude, I think we should have a space force as it would bring good opportunities.
