Space Exploration - Is It Worth The Cost?

Throughout the whole issue of 'Space Exploration' the BNC have been busy writing posts or comments about their opinions. Finally, the issue comes to an end and that's why I am summarising up all of the PROS and CONS about it.

Here are my thoughts...

PROS

  • Inventions that are useful to us
  • It increases our knowledge
  • International cooperation
  • It is an opportunity to explore something new
  • It allows us to understand our planet better
  • A new perspective on our place in the universe
  • Access to new minerals, precious metals, other stuff
  • Change our approach to medicine

CONS

  • It creates high-level pollution events
  • Exploring space is a costly venture
  • It gives us more ways to be paranoid about what others are doing
  • It is expensive to keep on exploring space
  • Exploring space means we’re leaving a lot of litter behind
  • No agreements are in place for rich resources that may exist in space
  • It is a venture that will always have risks
  • We could bring harm to other species

Personally, I do think that it is worth the cost because we are exploring our universe and discovering new materials, sources and precious metals. If we stop SPACE EXPLORATION now we will never increase our knowledge on the world around us.I have enjoyed this issue and are looking forward to the next one!

What do you think, is it worth it or not???

I will be looking at the issue from two perspectives.
One one hand, space exploration is forcing climate change along not preventing it due to the tonnes of co2 and hydrochloric acid and in addition to this it costs a lot of money, launching the average rocket costs up to 500 million and the average satellite costs up to 400 million dollars, this money could be spent on reducing the strain on the NHS and helping the people who are dirt poor. Space exploration also endangers the lives of astronauts, in 1967 three astronauts died in a flash fire in a launch rehearsal test.
On the other hand, space exploration has benefited our lives in many ways, without it we would not have satellites which have enabled telecoms, water purification systems and the treatment that people with cancer need. In addition to this, the space industry has provided many jobs and shows younger generations that they too are capable of great things and as Jim al kallili said we have enough money to do space exploration and solve other issues like poverty provided we live in a fair society.
I originally thought that space exploration was all bad but now I see that it has it's pros and cons.
