Letter to MP - is Space Exploration Worth the Cost?

Space Featured Image 5

This is the letter I would write to my local MP (Will Quince) to discuss space exploration and is it worth the cost? I am also going to be answering and asking seperate questions linked with space but is it worth the cost? is my main question.

Note to the BNC team: please don't leave this in if this gets published, but I am doing another Final Piece that is a news broadcast and I just wanted to know if it was okay to do two Final Pieces since they are in different formats.

Dear Mr Quince,

I am going to be discussing with you space exploration and is it worth harming our environment with the possibility of discovering something special? Well firstly, I will tell you what is going on currently with space exploration. Currently, space exploration isn't taking over the media and the press like it used to. In the late 20th century, it was mostly what people were talking about as it was knew to us: we didn't know what it did to the environment and we were just in the moment. But now we have realised what really happens in the process of sending someone to space, and how it can be dangerous. My point of view is that we should stop exploring space as much as we do (the reasons are in this post) and I am trying to persuade you to think the same.

Why Space Exploration is Not Worth the Huge Price Tag

Space exploration is a huge waste of money because we rarely find any useful information to benifit us on Earth nor does it improve astronauts' health. Astronauts can suffer very bad physical and mental health problems when returning to Earth such as bone deformation, thinking objects will float and many more reasons. But also, the more astronauts keep returning to space, the more people want to go because they have seen someone else do it. What I mean by this is if people keep seeing astronauts going into space they might think it isn't dangerous or harmful, and could want to do it themselves but that would only cause problems for them in the rocket and out of it as well. Space companies are, unintentally, making space seem like a riskless and unharmful place, but that is entirely untrue: the risk of dying is 3.2%. Not only are we harming ourselves, but we are also harming our environment with space exploration. As of now, there are 500,000 small bits of space junk, that have all come from humans polluting the atmosphere and environment. This causes rockets and spacecrafts having to be moved every so often, to avoid colliding with the unneeded rubbish. But it sometimes collides with them and it makes people panic and worry, and it often causes problems.

What I Want You to Do

In that paragraph, I was trying to convince you space exploration is a waste of money, if you are convinced, then I want you to do the following things. I want you to make aware parliament about this to try and make this get across to other people and make them consider this. I think a lot of MPs would agree with this and we could discuss this more and really try and focus on what we can do to stop this. But there would be a lot of people who wouldn't agree and we might start arguments which is definitely not what we want. It could be hard however because MPs are talking about Brexit and they might not think this is as important but it could be decided by a vote from MPs to make sure it is entirely fair for our country. But my verdict on it is that we should discuss Brexit more because that is more important at the moment to help our country and make it better.

Thank you for this succinct_leaves. I'm delighted to see how you have taken what you've learnt about writing to MPs and then applied this to your knowledge about the space debate. Do you think space gets enough 'air-time' in Parliament? Might be worth researching what has already been discussed and how often. I've just adjusted this to a discussion starter, rather than final piece, to leave room for your other one (and to prevent confusion for others!).

I have used my scepticism during this comment; on the first hand, I think that we should spend a lot of monny on space to exspand our technology systems, find better resources to help Earth and we could also explore diffrent planets to generate better medicine to help the severe problems around the world.

On the other hand, I think that we should spend money on space but a less of the amount as usual and give some more towards
    *Heath
    *Schools
    *The community
    *National defence etc.

In conclusion, I think we should not spand as much money towards space and give more to the ponts given above.

    your sincerely candid_cliff
