It's the festive time of year, and for those visiting the Hub over Christmas, we thought we'd share some interesting stories about Christmas in space! (PS: Can you spot our BNC expert Chris Hadfield in the photo?NASA [Public domain] )
Apollo 8 Sends a Historic Christmas Message to a Divided Nation
“From the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas and God Bless all of you,” were the final words of the Christmas message of Apollo 8. This was a special message for Americans, as 1968 had seen the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King and presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy, protests about the Vietnam war, and current president Johnson declaring he would not run for re-election. It's estimated over a billion people watched the broadcast. Read more about this historic message here.
Tim Peake's First Christmas in Space
Tim Peake had only been on the International Space Station for 10 days when he experienced his first Christmas Day in orbit. Watch his message below, and read more about what Christmas was like for him in this interview.

Astronauts perform a Christmas Eve spacewalk!
In 2013, astronauts on the ISS had to installing a new ammonia pump for the station's cooling system. The faulty cooling system had failed earlier in the month, halting many of the station's science experiments. Watch it below, and read more about what it was like for the astronauts here.

I had never known that Tim peak spent Christmas in orbit which when I think about it is Brilliant and really cool I wonder how Santa got up there.
Santa probably put the presents under the tree and they opened it when they got back.
Unless Santa is actually an astronaut, then he could travel to space and give them their presents.
Does Santa give presents to grownups ?

How did Santa get up there and statistics show Santa is not real.
