Final Piece on Protest.

Hero Protest

Good morning, welcome to Newsround, and today we are going to be answering and discussing the big question, "Does Protest Work?" Here, I have two guests, and I will let them introduce themselves.

Hello, my name is Ethan, and I am an eighteen year old teenager from Surrey. I think that protest does not work, especially during this time when you should be staying at home.

Hi, my name is Jeffrey, and I do agree that protest does work. I think protesting is a great way to get your voice heard.

Thank you both of you. It is quite evident that you both like this subject, so let's get going on this discussion. I will start with Ethan, who made a very good point about protesting during the pandemic. So Ethan, do you think it is a good idea to protest during a global pandemic?

No, I do not think it is a good idea to protest during Covid-19. It is not a good idea. If you go onto a street and start protesting with lots of people that are not in your household, they could be carrying Covid. If you then come into contact with them, there is a chance you could catch it, and then it would continue to spread. It is also not very sensible. You need to think, before you actually go out there and protest. So overall, it is not good to protest during Covid-19.

That is a very good point Ethan. You should not be protesting with lots of people that are not in your household. Jeffrey, would you agree with this?

Even though I do think protests work, I do agree with Ethan. It is not sensible at all. You can still protest though during Covid. You could do an online protest, which is called a virtual activism, and you could do a silent protest in your back garden. You do not have to protest with lots of people.

Yes, you have made a very good point there Jeffrey. Now Ethan, as you said, you think Protest does not work. What other ways do you think you can get your voice heard?

I think you can get your voice heard by standing up for others. If you stand up for someone, you might get recognised, and then there is more chance that you could be on TV, or something like that, and then you can say what you want to say.

That was a good point Ethan. Jeffrey, you said you agree with protesting, why do you think it works?

Well, I think it works because you can change opinions and ideas if done properly. It might be quite tricky otherwise. Also, some protests have worked. I am not sure if this was a protest, but for example, take Marther Luther King's speech. If it was not for him, black people might not have the opportunities that they have today. So, that is one of the main reasons I think it works. You can also stand up for someone which is nice, and there is a 50/50 chance that you might be able to put an end to it, and make the world a better place again!

That as a great answer. It is nice to end on a positive note. You both have done extremely well today, and you have both contributed to the questions. I enjoyed myself very much. So once again thank you Ethan and Jeffrey!

So that was today's news, and we will see you again tomorrow morning at 8:00am! Goodbye!

Thank you for reading my final piece.
