Do protests need to be violent to work?
In my opinion protests dont need to be violent for many difrent reasons involving the police, injurys and the diffrence between riots and peacful protests although it is also quite efftive in diffrent ways.
police with riots
As riots are harmful and can cause immense distruption to the comunity. Eventhough riots are highly effective, they are unlike peacful protests (that will not harm anybody wich means the police will not get involved and cause catastrophe). Many people have been thrown behind bars becuase of riots but that will make the councile want to stop the riots. Thay probably means that you will get ehat you want.
Injurys and danger
Riots cause a lot of lethal danger to people becuase of fire and even tear sprey. Fights would go and on with the police and cars would have been set on fire wear the protests were takeing place. Unlike in peacful protests some people mightb be carrieng lethal weapens and screaming and swearing. If you get sevearly injured in a riot sirens will come blareing into the riot and the ambulace will come in with sheilds and will take you away.
Comparing
If you compare the humble peacful protests then the threatning riots they are completly diffrent although they do have a few similaritys shared between them. For example both riots and protests are trying to spread a word to the world or government.Although one major difrence is that one is peacfull and one is filled with brutallity. Riots will cuase injurys and police might get involved alothough the peacfull protest is doing it well peacfully! Both are types of compltly diffrent protests.
In conclusion...
Riots could involve police, injuries and are completely diffrent to over protests.

Hi there I really liked your post to included loads of ideas and loads of creativity be really proud of yourself I was so happy to meet us here are some of my opinions on what you wrote.
I think that no one should be harmful or destroy a protest because the more they do that the more the government would not want to put a change on the world the more they create problems are more they create situations them or they won’t have a chance of making a change in the world the more at risk of being in the world in a difficult situation.
I think that the protesters should be violent in a protest because it’s not right on them and it’s not right on all the people who are protesting quietly and peacefully this is why I think we should use silent protest more rather than other protest because the silent protest mainly won’t include hurting people or doing anything that will hurt anyone!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us @decisive_redcurrant. You stated that we should use silent protest as a preferably method for protesting, because it won't involve hurting people. Can you perhaps do further research on how silent protesting may indirectly hurt someone? For example, can silent protesting in public, during the pandemic, hurt someone?
Thank you I’ll reasearch more on this and write back when I’ve got it!

I believe that no it doesn’t need to be harmful and cause panic among normal people trying to go through with there days so I believe if people are just standing and not doing anything to harm normal life than police don’t need to be involved but if people are getting into peoples ways by choice and causing harm than police should be involved but to never show police brutal it’s always good to remember to never oppress the oppressors or you might as well be as bad as them I believe there will never be something as equality but I believe compromise is a good thing.

I agree protests do not need to be violent to have a massive effect. Personally I believe that a protest should only ever escalate into a riot is if it is self-defence of the protesters. Unfortunately, many officers arrest and even harm peaceful protesters.
Interesting point, giving_leaves! Please could you provide some evidence for when you say "many officers arrest and even harm peaceful protesters". Is this always the case?

I wanted to add that I believe there is a reason some protest may be violent. In many places, protesters aren’t listened too. Therefore, they take more drastic measures until the governments agree to them. Though this is not the right thing to do, people who do get violent are simply trying to make the message they are giving spread. However, in many other countries, protests may not be violent because people understand that everyone is helping to help this cause.
Hi clever_iceberg, this is a well balanced opinion. Can you find an example of a recent violent protest, and do you think the protest was planned to be violent? Do you have any ideas why protests might start as peaceful but then become violent?
