WHY DO PEOPLE GET INVOLVED IN POLITICS?
People usually want to get involved in politics because they want to make a difference to their country, although some people are just power hungry - this shows there’s a lot more to this seemly simple question. We {genuine_cat and versatile_molecule} know a former candidate for the last general election- of the Liberal Democrats- who just wanted to make a difference to his constituency, though he did not win. Getting involved in politics needs full commitment, to make a difference. Unfortunately, many people do not have the time to get involved. In addition to this, politics is a risky place. There is always the chance that you will get abused on social media and not even get elected to become a MP…and if you are elected, your voice might not get heard in the vast political world. For example: Donald Trump has said mean things about climate activists like Greta Thunberg who are getting involved in politics, telling people not to listen to these ‘prophets of doom’ as he calls them. There was a dramatic increase in female MPs due to 2019’s general election, in total there are now 220 female MPs- 12 more than the outcome of 2017’s general election. This shows that more females want to show that ‘women can do it’ and they can be successful like any other male MP. This is the reason why lots of women want to become MPs and change the country showing ‘women can.’ Moving on, Children should get involved into political discussions such as BNC discussions. We think this because: Getting involved in discussions with others about politics will help us become more politically aware. We naturally focus on things that matter to us but learning about politics means you also learn about how your actions effect the people around you. There are so many opportunities like BNC, Youth Parliament, local debating clubs, youth politics clubs and so many others. What do you think?
