Who makes a great example of a leader to you?

Politicians and Power - Featured Image 1

Who makes a great example of a leader to you?

My example of a great leader is Greta Thunberg.

She is a role model to millions across the globe as an advocate for climate change. At the age of just 17 years old she is challenging world leaders, holding them accountable to consider their actions and policies in addressing the climate change issues within their country for the greater of good of the world approach to climate change.

She is open and honest and I feel this is an essential trait for being a leader as you need to feel that you can trust them. She is open and honest and I think that because of this has managed to get most people of all ages particularly the younger generation on her side.

Her drive for climate change is a selfless act for the benefit of the people and the globe that she is leading, not just herself. She does this with integrity as she does not make decisions because of money ,gifts, or outcomes that will benefit her , her family or friends.

This is why I think that she make a great leader.

Who makes great leader for you?

Thank you for this strongly argued piece! Could politicians learn from Greta Thunberg? Only today she was at the same event as Donald Trump and he seemed to clearly refer to her in his speech. What do others think?

The leader I look up to is Nelson Mandela
    reason:
The reason I look up to Nelson Mandela is that he was very inspiring in speeches and political meetings. He believed that everyone should be treated equally in a way so that the next generation is as nice as it already is now. Unfortunately he passed on at the age of 95 but before he died he prepared a speech ''I am prepared to die'' because he believed that whatever good he has done to this world it will spread all over the earth and will bring people happiness. Nelson Mandela is a very inspiring and a passionate person for black people all over the world, his impact on the country of South Africa has been amazing.

This is the reason I have chosen Nelson Mandela

In my humble opinion I would pick Martin Luther King. The reason i would choose Martin Luther king is that he is inspiration .He turned America around. Before King's peaceful protests there was slavery and segregation .Things were unfair to black people.Martin was able to change laws by his protest and amazing speeches. He is one of the human images of role model ,if that doesn't show what great leader is i don't know one is anymore. This is the reason I chose such a inspirational leader.

I gladly agree with productive _eel. They made some really good points about Martin Luther King and what he achieved, but my choice would be Barack Obama. My reason for this would have to be how he spoke and what he spoke about. What I mean by this is how he wanted to speak and save the planet. That is what I really love about him.

My idea of a leader is Jaqueline Wilson but only because she is my idol. I agree with productive eal but I would like to add Nelson Mandela and Rosa Parks. They also helped in equality for blacks. I know Nelson is African but it doesn't matter. To me a great leader must be kind, understanding, have confidence and be a role model.

I would agree with everybody here and, I would have chosen some of these people if they haven't been chosen already but I would probably choose Winston Churchill, the man who led Britain through the second world war. Sir Winston Churchill was a inspirational man who -through his eloquent speeches- kept Britain's spirits up and his words are still making an impact today. "Never was so much owed by so many to so few." This sentence is in so many history teachers class rooms and is on so many posters and so many walls. We all know this speech. As he was the prime minister, he was the one that would have made some of those vital decisions that helped us win the war. "We shall fight them on the beaches." That speech was probably the most famous speech he made. That speech is the one that helped us win the war. This man -who must have been a great example of a leader as he was knighted by the queen- led the country through the war, and was one of the main parts of us winning it. Without his, we might be under nazi rule and the tyrant hitler might of been our leader.

Thank you for reading hope you consider.

I know it is very unusual, but the person I look up to as a leader is Didier Drogba.

Firstly, in his country, Ivory Coast were at war, but the World Cup was being played and Ivory Coast qualified for the competition. After this unexpected event Drogba leant down to a camera and prayed for his people to put down their guns. It worked! This shows his courage and he had broke down in the changing room. This to me shows a leader. His speech in my opinion was the best ever. Ever since, Ivorians want him as their leader of the country and I think that is deserved.

Secondly, Drogba has helped Chelsea, a football club, champions of Europe against all odds. He showed his passion for the club and saved them in the final by scoring a last minute header. He had won so much and lead Chelsea to win several Premier Leagues, Fa Cups, and will always be remembered as a superstar and leader.

In conclusion, he has done so many important things that show the qualities of a leader so he deserves to have all the praise and I hope he can continue to show these qualities.

and he lived in luxury to live in the usa, even if he is black and is not trusted he helped usa andthe usa priministers are the most powerful one since they have good armies

I understand your point that Drogba can’t be leader of Europe because he doesn’t know much about politics but I think he is an inspiration leader of his country and any team he has played for. Ivory Coast is a democratic country so it may be possible for him to get people’s vote because saving the country from death, sadness and war shows lots of courage and he should be respected for that. Also, Ivory Coast is in Africa so he wouldn’t be a leader of Europe.

I think to be a good leader you need to be honest to the public because if you are not honest you will say something but it's not true. Secondly, you need to explain yourself to other politicians because if you don't your obviously not confident to share your opinion. Thirdly, you need to stick to your ideas for example Borris Johnson kept on delaying brexit, which was what he was planning to do. Finally, you need to listen to your constituents so the public agree with what you are doing.

My example is Pele because he is inspirational.

This is because a war had been raging for many years but when Pele had come the guns had fallen silent. This is because they were in awe of such a sensational player. To his arrival the war had stopped and the conflict had been resolved. To this day even at an old age Pele can still solve conflicts.

Mine is also a footballer whose name is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

I have chosen him as he has shown self courage and country before him. Like most people have said it is essential for leaders to make decisions that show courage. And good leaders also put the country before themselves. And my choice of leader has shown just that. Many years ago, when Aubameyang was performing well he received three offers. Number one: to play for the country where his parents were from, Gabon. Number two to play for Spain and number three to play for France. At the time Spain was dominating the world. But for the respect for his origination he chose Gabon who not many people really know about and don not play as many matches as the other countries do. So for me this proves that he was a good leader and showed an example to other people.

So the moral is to other leaders: Always choose the country before anyone else.

    Thank You,

I chose Rosa Parks to be an inspirational leader.
She has said in the past: “I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.” ~ Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was an active member of the civil rights movement who knew Martin Luther King. She is most known for her act of refusal to give up her bus seat and she was put in prison because of it. Her defiance inspired the Montgomery bus boycott and pushed the civil rights movement so that Racism wouldn't be as big in America. I think that because she was so willing to do this for so many people, even though she knew that she was going to be sanctioned for it, it told other world leaders to not be afraid to do the right thing. Furthermore, it showed prime ministers and presidents that if someone who can live a simple life as a seamstress can do the right thing, a person in charge of a whole country in a big flashy house could probably do it too.

I think to be a good role model you have to be fair, kind and honest. For example I don't think that Hazel Blears is a very good role model because she was not kind to her country. This was because she took money out of the governments fund and then went on to spend it on stuff for her. This was bad for the country because she didn't use it for the benefit of her people. Next up is John Prescott. He punched a protester because they threw an egg at him. I think that this is unfair on the protester because he did not deserve a punch just because he threw an egg!! Next is Lalu Prasad Yadav who was a Member of Parliament in India 🇮🇳. He was convicted of withdrawing millions of dollars from the Indian government's treasury (where government money is kept). Last of all is Donald Trump. He refused to give aid (help) to Ukraine unless it announced an investigation into Hunter Biden, the son of Trump's political rival. I think this is unfair on Ukraine because they need help. Thanks for reading my comment!!

The leader I look up to most is the Queen! The reason why I think she is someone to be respected is because she has been so loyal to this country. She is 93 years old and things that have happened in her family have not always been easy to deal with when everyone is watching her every move. People come from all over the world to see her (or at least to see Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle!). She still attends lots functions and brings so much happiness to so many people even when she might not feel up to it. I think she is a really marvellous role model. She always puts duty before her own needs which, in my opinion, shows the qualities of a real leader.

Some people would disagree with the Queen being a good leader because in their opinion, they might believe that monarchs are just born into this lucky position. They might think that they are too privileged and don't deserve their wealth or power. I would say that you cannot help which family you are born into and the Queen appears to be humble but dignified and certainly does her best to do her duties. The Queen definitely deserves to have her position.

Another leader I look up to is Bill Gates

I have chosen him because as Prime Ministers help their country to prosper he has done something similar by prospering the world of computers. This is because by advancing technologies in computer it has had a beneficial impact on people. For example before the computer if you wanted to find information about a certain thing, than you might have to go to a library. And the majority of the time, that certain library would not have the book containing the information. On the negative side, this might make people lazy and lethargic but it has mostly had a good impact on people. In addition to that, Bill Gates has also been funding money to charity and helping lives of people who are not so fortunate. In my opinion this a good example of a leader as he has prospered something that is beneficial to us in our lives and also cared for the people who require help.

My example of a leader is Frank Lampard ...

Firstly, Frank Lampard is a well known ex-football and is currently the manager of the Premier League side, Chelsea. Since he has became their manager, Chelsea have succeeded much better than Mauricio Sauri ( Chelsea's former manger ). He led Chelsea to the Super cup final and has let youngsters play, not only has he played youngsters, he has also bought youngsters. Chelsea have already became very successful by becoming into the top 4.

Secondly, he was the captain of Chelsea when they were at their prime. He has gone down in the legend book as one of the greatest players of all time. He had 177 goals and 102 assists during 14 years of playing.

Do you see why he is a leader after leading a famous club through history.

If he is the president it means that lots of people chose him it means he is very responsible and lots of people like him. he is very openly honest. He does not do stuff or go to people for money, he goes there because he is loyal. He is also not selfish or does not hurt people alot he is probably one of the best presidents I could of ever known. He is a great role model to everybody else he also makes great and good decisions he grew up like one of the people who you could tell would be very famous when there older you could by looking him strait in the eye. I can tell that he will become known worldwide at the rate he is at now. The only downside is that he is racist.

I think Nelson Mandela would be a great leader and would really bring peace to our world again. He is also really similar to Greta Thumberg because she and Nelson both tried to change the world for the better. Greta is encouraging young people to realise what is actually happening to are planet and because of that millions of tv shows have been directed towards climate change and the animals being affected. Nelson Mandela brang world peace and was being accused of doing wrong whilst he tried to make the world safe for everyone.

I think Greta Thunberg is a good leader for her age and its good she wants to help climate change. She does deserve to be a leader if she wants to because she wants to help climate change and things like that and if she leads us we can help stop climate change. She isn't my role model but if I had to choose someone like that I would choose her

my leader is roger fedderer because he is a great tennis player and he is a great sport . He has a great technical serve and he inspires me to play tennis 3 times a week . He beat one of the best players of all time at 17.he is now 37 and is still a great player and will always be recognised as one . I think that Greta is a great leader and the whole world should look up to her . Federer is honest and people should look up to him more . Thiem is also a great player and I think he should have won the Australian open . Great choice and a great piece of writing . Carry on like this and support Federer

An example of a great leader to me would be Walter Tull. Walter Tull was a footballer up until World War 1 - when he joined the army. Walter was one of the first black football players in the English League and the first black infantry officer in the British Army.
I think that he was a great leader because he led his battalion to war- despite the fact he was racially abused and discriminated against. In addition, he wasn't afraid to do what he wanted to do even if other people didn't like it. This is a good trait for a leader because you cannot let people sway your decisions otherwise you would make mistakes. Also, he would have been determined because he managed to become an officer even though there was a lot of racism at the time. This is a good trait because you need to be determined to get things done. For example, there is Brexit. David Cameron was not determined to get Brexit done so he resigned. Whereas, Boris Johnson was determined to get Brexit done so it happened.
In conclusion, I believe that Walter Tull would make a great leader because he was determined, unafraid to be himself and didn't take people's harsh words to heart. Also, he kept trying and fighting.

I think that Theresa may is a good role model...

Because she is independent and a really good team player. She has been a very good prime minister in the uk but she sadly stepped down in 2017/2018. She is good at arguments and fighting for our land.
On the other hand I think that bill gates is a good roll model because, he is very good with computers by doing something very similar by prospering the world of computers.this is because by increasing technology that could potentially help people (with work or people who have a disability) and it has a bigger impact on people.

With approaching this argument with open mindedness and scepticism I think that bill gates is a better roll model.

    Arguments:
He wants to change the world
But technology is bad for the environment
He is using technology to help people
But people should become more independent and get more fresh air (so we can get more used to progressing the earth to be how it used to be.

I would choose Winston Churchill as an example of a great leader because he was very inspirational and motivated, he kept people going in a time of need (The Blitz)With his inspirational speeches that broadcast all over Britain to help raise peoples hopes and spirits, one of his most famous quotes was "Never was so much owed by so many to so few" I think that he stepped in during our time of need and took on the role calmly and always kept a cool head even 8 weeks into the blitz
So in my opinion I believe that the quality that make up a good politician (well one of them) is keeping calm and caring on.

I would choose Martin Luther King as a great leader because he stood up for what was right and no matter what colour your skin was you should all be treated equally. He did everything he could to get all black people to have the rights they deserve. He worked tirelessly day and night hoping that the law would change and some kindness would be given. His determination and strenght helped him get through the tough times he faced.I feel guilty for how we treated people differently on what their skin colour was.I feel sorry for Martin Luther King because he got shot, he was innocent and did nothing wrong. He deserves to be alive today and should be continuing his work.

personally I believe group captain sir Douglas Bader is a great leader, he was a great leader during world war 2 losing both legs however still being allowed to fly. Bader presents leadership as he is a high ranking officer in one of the hardest times as well as this Bader showed resilience with his clear disability. He also took advantage of his increased ability of taking more gravity as he had no legs to lose blood from, this giving him more manoeuvrability. He was credited with 22 aerial victories, four shared victories, six probable's, one shared probable and 11 enemy aircraft damaged making him one of the greatest pilots the RAF has ever had.
Although many do not know him he shows all the qualities a good leader should have and aspire for.

I know it is very unusual, but the 3rd person I look up to as a leader is Didier Drogba.

The person that I have chosen isn't really a leader but a role model. Her name is Rosa Parks. I have chosen her because in 1955, black and white people couldn't sit on the same part of the bus for ridiculous reasons. They were also weren't allowed to go to the same school, pray in the same churches, shop in the same stores etc. This paragraph part of her long but wonderful story:

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for after refusing a bus driver's oreders to give up the seat for a white passenger to sit on. She later stated that her refusal wasn't because she was physically tired or weak, but that she was tired of giving into these commands and orders all the time.
After a long day's work at a Montgomery department store, where she worked as a seamstress, Parks boarded the Cleveland Avenue bus to get home. She took a seat in the first of several rows made for "colored" passengers.
The Montgomery City Code said that all public transportation be segregated and that bus drivers had the "powers of a police officer of the city while in actual charge of any bus for the purposes of carrying out the provisions" of the code. While operating a bus, drivers were required to provide separate but equal accommodations for white and black passengers by assigning seats.
There is so much more to her story and her life! I found this information at Rosa Parks Biography
To conclude, I think that Rosa Parks is a good role model to others as she quotes, 'I would like to be remembered as a person who wanted to be free.... so other people would be also free'.

In reply to intrepid_hurricane, I think that being a role model is pretty much the same thing as being a leader. You don't have to be the Prime Minister for people to follow your example, which I think is one of the best methods of leadership, leading by example.
In response to the question, the best examples of leaders to me are teachers. Teachers are the ultimate role models, and appear to be doing ten times more to support future generations than the obvious leaders in the government who don't seem to care. I don't think I could choose a specific leader who I really admire because there are huge numbers of people who make a big difference just by turning up to work every day. Nurses, doctors, police officers, social workers and psychologists. All these people make a colossal difference, which in my opinion has a greater impact than every member of the cabinet put together.

My example is not only a leader but, an inspirer. They go by the name of Malala Yousafzai.

I think she is an inspiration as her resilience motivates people to reach into the deep and do the unthinkable, just like she did. In 2008, the Taliban took over her town. They now made the laws and rules and anybody who did not tolerate it would be harshly punished. One of their rules was that girls were no longer allowed to go to school, which forced her to drop out of school. However, the amount of perseverance she had was not enough to stop the Taliban. She publicly spoke on behalf of girls and why they should have to have the right to learn, which made her a target.
On October 9th 2012, 15-year-old Malala got shot in the head, on the left side. Luckily, she lived and after the incident, she still globally travels around the world, helping young girls with their lives, so they would not have to undergo what she did ever again.
This is why I think that Malala is an inspirer as she helped build awareness about girls like her who suffer inequality and a leader as many people will look up onto her and admire her efforts to make a change to humanity.
