What does it take to be a good Prime Minister?

Politicians and Power - Featured Image 1

Every five years, we vote for a new Prime minister. As we all should know, Prime Ministers pledge to do multiple things. For example, some people might pledge to help make the nation a netter place by banning un-nesesery things such as smoking or graphiety but what dose it take to be a good prime Minister? well, today your going to fine out!

Being true to your word

To be a good Prime minitser, you need to be able to stay true to your word. By that I don't mean when you make a promise to your friends and keep that promise. I mean to make a pledg to the hole nation and stay true to it. Sometimes, the case is that Prime Ministers are makeing pledges to get chosen but don't stay true to them. This would make them look bad and no one would want to pick them.

Helping our environment

As a Prime Minister, keeping the environment clean should be your first priority. By that I don't mean picking trash off the ground, I mean putting in the effort to hire cleaners for the streets or getting more bins ect. The more effort we put in, the cleaner the beaches will be!

Listening to the people

Listening to the people is very important as everyone has democracy. This means that we all have the right o say what we want to say. For example, if I wanted to tell the Prime Minister something that I want in the nation, I would be allowed due to democracy.

Being able to listen to the politicians

As we have learnt from brilliant_fossil, Politicians help the Prime Minister chose the right choice but what would happen if we didn't listen to our fellow Politicians? What would become of our nation? I know. Chous. The Prime Minister wouldn't be able to listen to all the amazing ideas the Politicians would have.

What do you think?

I really like how you have included 'saving the enviroment'. This really helps as we need to make sure our world is safe and proteced from all the danger that will come. This is a good example therefore for those who do it will then decide that this is wrong and we are actually destroying our planet. I also agree that we should not lie to our people because some prime ministers just want democracy but like you said, we need to be true to our word and even though we might not to be able to change some things, it will still be worth it to try and ask and fight for it and not just come up with a clever idea but do nothing about it so then the people that have voted for that party or a politician will feel disappointed and feel let down. They will then want to leave the country for they do not want that member of parliment which will be very miserable.

A prime minister is the head of a cabinet and the leader of the ministers in the executive branch of government, often in a parliamentary or semi-presidential system.
So I think that a good Prime Minister needs to have the qualities of someone who can make good decisions that will benefit the country they are representing and not doing something that benefits them and not worrying about the citizens in that particular place. They also need to be good role models and be able to listen to other people and their advice, not thinking they are a 'know it all' person or they don't need any help. Not hiding things and being able to argue when things aren't going their way and when its in their favour.
What also makes a good PM is that they also need some good followers and not just people who like them in general. They need to like them because of their decisions and not his/her hair. They also need MPs that want to follow them and fully agree with them, although it is ok to occasionally disagree with them and think "why did you do that?" However, if you make a really bad decision then you will lose all your people and no-one would vote for them.

To be a good prime minister you must have many qualities such as: being a great leader, listening to other people helping the planet and encourage people to do something, like when your not using the room, turn off the lights and when you go out the house don't keep your iPad on charge, even if it doesn't have any charge left.

I think what makes a good Prime Minister is to actually take in different people’s suggestions and hold a vote for it so people of the public could change the country, and although this can happen it does not happen very often, so if a Prime Minister took people’s ideas regularly members of the public would see him as a good Prime Minister and pay him more respect and loyalty than they did before a Prime Minister did this. To conclude, I think a good Prime Minister should take in other suggestions and ideas from people that are outside of parliament and not a politician.

I believe that listening to the people and helping the environmental situation should be the two most important things. I could not decide between these two because I think they are both equally important. If leaders do not listen to the people, they can scarcely be called leaders at all, but the climate crisis is without a doubt the most urgent situation at the moment, which is why prime ministers should be dedicated to helping the environment.

I agree with you because the PM is elected and as a result needs to listen to everyone. I addition to this, climate change is important. I think this because if we do not do anything about in the next 11 years it will be irreversible and the human race will die. I would like to build on what you said. I also think that a PM should have integrity, they should not just do things that will benefit them, they are meant to be leaders, they have to deliver the will of the people who voted for them, they must not do what we saw in the MP expenses scandal, the country should be the priority. I disagree with you adventurous tennis when you say they need to have could followers because if they are elected the majority of people will like them anyway. In addition to this I also think a good PM should be self-motivated and passionate about what they do. I think this because a PM needs to want to be a PM and push the country forward, they should not need to be motivated. The need to have sufficient stamina to carry out tasks to a good standard, a PM should be passionate, they need to want to be PM, if they are not passionate about what they do then they might not be self-motivated. As well as this, a good PM should also be self-managed, they should know what they need to do and should always be pushing to strive higher, if they do this then they will progress more because they always want to go that bit further. I can decide between climate change and listening to people, I would choose climate change because if we do not act quickly then we will die and there will be not PM to listen to us. What do you think?

I also believe that listening to people and having patience are two of the most important things to be a Prime Minister as sometimes the media is pressurizing you to react quickly so you must have patience to deal with it. The next important thing is to listen to people. By doing so, the country will appreciate your work and you will be selected again. BUT, by listening to the nation does not mean agreeing on everything they say as you have a responsibility to control the nation.
Every move you make will be monitored and if you have made a wrong decision then aging the media will be on you.

A good prime minister is a person that has these qualities

The first quality to being a good prime minister is leadership. This is one of the most important qualities of being a prime minister because firstly, your in charge of the whole country and that is a big responsibility because you are the one who is in charge, you make the best decisions for the country and you lead us through elections. You need leadership otherwise how are you going to run the whole country if you don't have leadership.

The second quality is being a role model. You need to be a role model so you can show other people what a good prime minister is. To be a role model you have to be someone who can make the right decisions for the country, be a person that someone could look up to so say someone wants to be a prime minister and they have no experience of being one you have to tell them the main parts of being a prime minister and then if they get you then he will want to be just like you.

The third quality is confidence. You will need confidence as a prime minister when you are in an election and you need to make a speech you need to be confident on speaking out loud to all of brexit and hope that people would be on your side.

The fourth quality is integrity. You need integrity so you don't make decisions just for money because that is not being a good role model to the whole country if you make decisions for the country just because of money. You need to make decisions for the country not money.

The fifth and final quality is selfishness. You need to make decisions for the country not just yourself because then no one is going to follow you if you make decisions just for yourself. Being a prime minister is mainly being in charge of the country and if don't do it for the country, you won't be prime minister for very long.

There are several qualities needed to be a good Prime Minister including.

Leadership, leadership is very important because the Prime Minister has to lead the country and give ideas and have all responsibility on them to do the right thing and make us trust them. Also, a BNC skill needed to show leadership is speaking up because if you don't give ideas and try to speak up you will never be voted for.

Selfless and Integrity, these are very important because if you are selfish then the country won't be in safe hands and be upset and in an uproar if the country doesn't have the best thing for it and just for certain inderviduals. Also, this would meet that you would take the blame, loose your job and will in the end have a worse situation than you could be if you were fair.

Role model, to be a Prime Minister, you have to take the responsibility of setting a good example for your followers because otherwise, you won't be respected and won't be voted for to become a Prime Minister.

A good prime minister should be able to motivate and persuade others. I think this because they lead the country so as a result should be able to tell others to keep going and to not give up, they need to be persuasive to not only get more votes but for more people to listen to them. In addition to this, a prime minister should be able to speak up, I think this because if they do not the people will not know where they stand and due to this will not vote for that person. As well as this, a prime minister should be a good listener, I think this because other people might also have good ideas so the PM should take these ideas in to account. A PM should be a good leader, I think this because, as I said, the PM leads the country so should be able to try and bring people together and make decisions that benefit everyone not just themselves. For example: if an MP disagrees with the prime minister then the prime minister should take the MP's opinion in to account while also explaining to the MP what influences he/she's thinking. The value I think is the most important is the ability to listen to other people and take their opinions into account, I think this because, the PM is making decisions for the entire country and as a result, the people who live in the country who are effected by the PM's decisions should have a say, the PM can not by any means do things against the will of the people living in the country.

What I believe makes a great leader is someone who will not cower under the load of responsibility but also someone who will not take that responsibility and build it and build it until they make promises they are unable to fulfil. I think, in relation to what wonderful independence said, the leader has to be an excellent role model for they are an inspirer and we look up to them to make good decisions benefiting the public as well as the themselves. In my humble opinion, a leader must have integrity, they must use there possession of power to help and encourage all. They must be honest and accountable, they must be objective for they need to put their personal feelings aside for the greater good. And they should be selfless for what is a leader if they only think about themselves. I want a leader who thinks we are all equals and can move us along into the not so distant future. These qualities are what I think makes a great leader

I think that the first thing that you need to be in order to be a good prime minister is that you should act like one around people. What this means is that a prime minister must show dignity and act appropriately ( such as not being offensive, unlike many politicians in our day and age ) owing to the fact that the PM is in charge of a whole entire country and is head of the government. Therefore, they should act like this since they stand for so many people and they're such an important figure. Furthermore, they should know what to say to the press. For example, they mustn't tell lies and overexaggerate stories on purpose. A prime minister should also avoid rows with colleagues and keep debates done in parliament very calm on their end. They should know that the press is always watching them and that society will always want more information. Because every angry word or thrown object will most probably end up in the media.

Another thing that a prime minister needs to have, is to know their priorities. PMs must have a big focus on their main priorities but at the same time make sure that the public doesn't get affected. This is like not starting a war or something on the lines of that; avoid getting dragged into very very small problems that someone else, who isn't as busy, could solve. They should also be able to speak for themselves in a simple way that the listeners and readers could easily grasp. This is so that the press doesn't define their words in perhaps a more exaggerated way, this gives the media too much power and sometimes gives the wrong impression of the PM. For example, Donald Trump says many, many offensive things and now the media have set him up to look like a disgusting man. However, I'm not entirely sure if this is the best example to use. Because, really, my opinion is that it's not the media's fault that he looks like a bad person. It's all his. He said "When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. …They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists." Now some of you may be thinking that well maybe this is the media doing what they do best - exaggeration - but there is a very clear video that says this. I am aware that Trump is not a prime minister, but I believe that he is a good example. So I guess that it wasn't really the best example since I disagreed with myself later on.
Here is the link to that video: https://www.cleveland.com/open/2016/04/50_outrageous_donald_trump_quo_1.html

These are the two main things that I think someone should have in order to be a good prime minister.

I think that being a good prime minister is all about honesty, empathy and intelligence this is because if your not honest you might not get your point out there and you won’t have the respect of other people! Also if there is something going on in someone’s life you can try and empathise with them to make them feel better! And you need intelligence to get a vote!

To be a good prime minister I think you should be trust worthy because you don't want someone just to make a wrong decision. I also think to be a good prime minister you have to respect someone's opinion and if you make fun of it you are not being respectful.

I personally think it takes open mindedness to become reliable for the country . With all that has been happening I feel that people think democracy is how you run a country it’s NOT how you run a country, you run a country you need to have speaking up, scepticism and reasoning and of course in situations try not to lie for example. The worst storm ever was coming and no one was prepared you could end up killing people or even getting sacked

    Thanks for reading Xx

A good prime minister needs to be open minded and visit the community of the constituency they represent and prioritise their needs. A good prime minister can not have unclear, nebulous and covered up opinions and views, blanketed with lies. Prime ministers need to be honest, truthful and clear. Political leaders have a responsibility to behave well and by doing so, upholding the values of the country they live in. In this case, it means that they need to act like a prime minister. Questioning the truth is another important character a prime minister needs to have- you can't just let nonsense go by you, you need the question it and challenge other peoples views. I feel, the most important skill of all is motivation for the job, to keep going and achieve more!...Only then will you have kept your promise to the British people.

While I do agree with the things you have said, I think the most important thing a prime minister needs is the ability to make decisions for the country and not for themselves. This is because running a country is not easy if you treat yourself with things you agree with; you need to take into account what other people are saying. For example, if there has been a general election on whether we should ban littering, and most people said we should, then you have to try and make an agreement which means litter is banned. If you choose to not ban it, because you don't want it to change, then you are not being a good prime minister. Sometimes prime ministers have to see what everybody else thinks, and go with what they have to say. In our BNC sessions, we have talked about politicians and world leaders who have made bad decisions. One of these people was Saad Hariri. He gave money to a model who asked him for it, and he sent millions of dollars to her. As it was not illegal, he couldn't be impeached for his actions but that money should have been used for a better cause to help the country. That is the thing: if it's not illegal it doesn't necessarily mean it is right. And some politicians have taken advantage of this, abusing acts that are not illegal, but neither are they right.

To be a good PM you will need to be honest about your opinions, a good listener to hear both sides of the argument. To have a good working partnership with other presidents and prime ministers around the world. You will need to care about everything that your people are concerned with just like the environment, our national health and education, as well as wildlife and climate change around the world. The person would need to be a good problem solver too.

As a leader, I think that there are certain things that need to be considered and these are the things that I think that a Prime Minister should do to run the country properly:

    1) A good listener and open to new ideas
    2) Kind and caring towards other people
    3) Honesty and loyalty
    4) Cares about other people and not selfless but open
    5) Does what is best for the country and for everyone
    6) Has good plans and if fails, a new a better one takes place
    7) Can be trusted with anything
    8) Can change his or her mind when needed and admit when wrong without feeling like they have made a big mistake

To conclude, I think that a good Prime Minister should be able to have these qualities to make the country a better place for everyone!

The prime ministers would have to be very careful to be a good prime minister.

One of the things prime ministers need to be a good one is to be truthful, but they have to be careful about that because if they're too truthful - because if they are then if they make a big mistake they will put everyone in a bad mood and they won't like that prime minister. Another thing they need to do is make good decisions. By this I mean by what the public want and if they want there idea then they could sprinkle it in. Some more is that they will need some of the skills from BNC like open-mindedness for my previous reasons. One more is they need to have good teamwork to work with their party and take their advice. Another is they need to watch time and be where they need to be like a speech or something. Something else is they need to not take advantage of their power like spend lots of money on furniture or try to become even more powerful than they are and make everyone do what he or she wants. Also to be elected they need to be popular. Another thing is make good decisions.

I think that being honest is the most important thing that you have to be. Although helping the environment is crucial, I think you would rather have an honest prime minister than one that never stays true to their word.

I think a good prime minister should have the following qualities:

    1. A responsible attitude
This is an essential quality for many reasons. Firstly, they need to think responsibly about what they say because they influence many others. As a Prime Minster, they are the face of an entire country and represent so many people. If they say the wrong thing, that can not only make people angry and upset but could damage the reputation of a country or even worse! Secondly, they need to think responsibly about their ideas and policies, looking at the whole picture and thinking about others rather than what will benefit them.

    2. Honest and integrity
If people know that their prime minister is always someone who acts with honesty and integrity, they know they will be able to trust them. They will know that the leader of their country will treat them right and do what’s best, even when faced with challenging situations. People often see those who act with integrity as being kind and having good intentions rather than selfish motives. This is very important in a leader.

    3. Openness
I think it’s really important that a prime minister is open with the people they lead and do not hold back secrets. This might be a bit controversial because some people might think that we don’t need to know everything that is going on behind the scenes and that it might even have a negative effect on people’s stress levels and wellbeing. However, I think that it is important that a politician does not keep secrets. The more open they are able to be, the more people will feel that they can trust them.

    4. The ability to influence others.
This is really important and can be done in a lot of different ways. Sometimes politicians may be able to influence others just by the way they speak and by being passionate about the things they believe in. At other times they may need to have skills of persuasion and a clear vision. They also need to be able to speak out and share their opinions in a way that is inspiring to others.

    5. Perseverance and determination
As a leader, you have to keep on fighting for the things you believe in. Leading a country is not easy. In fact, there are many challenges that may need to be overcome and a good prime minister needs to be able to deal with this.
