Who should get your seat?

In my personal opinion, I think that the pregnant women should get the seat. This is because that she is carrying her weight as well as her baby's. Carrying this weight meant that her back would get hurt even more. But you also have to take in the factor that looking from this picture we don't exactly how many months pregnant she is. But from closely analysing the picture the single dad could hold his children also the fact he has children mean he probably would have to stand up because children tend to run around. The man with crutches has something to balance on as well as the old lady you has her walking stick. You could also take in the point that there are three seats meaning if you asked the other people to move there would possibly be enough spaces for the people that need or want to sit down. You also don't know whether the people sitting down have any medical problems. But in conclusion, if I had to pick someone it would be the pregnant lady.

It's great to hear what you have to say on the activity from session one! Well done for giving reasons for your decision. The best way to have quality conversations on the Hub is to read a post and reply to other students in the comments section. Please only write a new post if you have a brand new idea for a conversation that hasn't come up before. I look forward to seeing what other ideas you have!

Well done for winning a star for this post! You have shown really good curiosity here by looking very closely at the picture and thinking about the whole scenario and what the consequences of this might be.

I agree with you fearless_conversation, and the fact that the pregnant lady is carrying the weight of the baby as well as herself, however this is the same for the man who is carrying two children, and two children are heavier than one unborn baby. Also, if the train moved suddenly or jerked, he would fall over, as he cannot hold on to the handlebars, but the pregnant lady could, as she has both hands free. The man would not fall over if he sat down, and the children could sit on his lap, not having to be in an uncomfortable and precarious position being carried one arm each by the dad.

Also, the man with crutches might find it hard because, although he already has support, it probably hurts for him to stand up for a long time. This also, in my view, applies to the old lady. Both may be in pain, and rest is good if you are in pain.

I think that I could solve the problem by encouraging the other people in the seats to give up their seats for the pregnant lady, the man with crutches and the old lady. The man with the children could then give his children to the people sitting down to look after and could hold on. This theory relies on many different aspects working. The plan could fall through if: any of the people refused to give up their seats; the man was unwilling to give his children to the seated people to look after ; if any of the people sitting down had a disability or if the children objected to being given to strangers.

I think that the pregnant lady may be in pain though and the man with the crutch may not be able to hold on like the man with his children because both of his arms are need to keep pain off his foot and both are laboured down with the crutches. It is a very hard decision to make.
