Question quake - did you enjoy?

IMG_9963.JPG

We looked together at the statement "All perspectives are equally important." We enjoyed this discussion and decided that even though we are all entitled to our opinions - it doesn't mean you are always right. What do you think?

Out of the other discussions we had out group had the most to say about the Journalist. We decided it would be hard to be a journalist as sometimes their own opinions might be conflicting to what they have to report. They might not agree but they have to report the facts as it could make the news bias.

We loved our question quake questions here are some of our thoughts, please comment if you see something you agree or disagree with and we will use our reasoning skills to discuss.

Hello! Thanks for sharing your ideas from your discussion! I have awarded stars for showing your open-mindedness (it's great that lots of people have written down their ideas) and reasoning, which I can see in these photos. I wonder if you did a vote at the end of the session on "are all perspectives equally important?" what would the majority of you have said, and why? Can you summarise the discussion?

We also did this activity and spent a lot of time looking at the question: is everyone’s perspective equally important? We also discussed if journalists should have a point of view.

Personally, I think that journalists shouldn’t have a point of view because they are people who write about news stories and they listen to other people’s opinion. In their reports, they try not to show their opinion. If they are going to write about other people’s opinions I think they shouldn’t show their opinion even if they have one. If they start writing about their opinion, then their report will all be about what they think about something that is happening rather than the hard facts.

People rely on journalism to find out the truth. It is important that the truth is not clouded by emotion or opinion.

I’d be interested to know what you thought.

I've looked at this same question of: Should a journalist have a point of view? Well I have a TOTALLY different opinion in this matter. I think journalists SHOULD have a point of view and that they should DEFINITELEY write it down. I think this because a journalists job is to hear from as many people as they can. I've been taught at my school to give other opinions then to finally conclude with your OWN opinion. After gathering all your information you would have a good deal of knowledge about the matter yourself. So in technical terms, you're a slight expert on the matter as I'd expect you might have heard from OTHER experts. That gives you the freedom to write about your own opinion. You (fearless_wolverine) are saying that they shouldn't write down their own opinion. But what's to stop another journalist coming and writing down your own opinion. All your doing is disabling you to give your own thoughts but enabling others to. I hope I have proved my point ver thoroughly.

Well done for listening to your BNC club mates on this, and considering all of their views before making up your mind. I have given you a star for your open-mindedness!

I think that this question isn't looked at a lot and that you did a great job of looking at it. The question quake was ok for me but I'm not sure that ever one in my group enjoyed it...
Maybe it wasn't the best for people that take bnc VERY seriously!
