Buddhist VS Muslim

2018-Issue1_Featured-Myanmar_3.jpg

We did an activity at school where we hear other people's point of view in the Myanmar situation.

There was a Muslim man who is now a refugee in Bangladesh and a Buddhist woman who is a university student in Myanmar.

Kobir Basar, the muslim man had said, ''The military had set fire to our houses and were chasing people and killing them. Thats's why we had to escape. I saw this all with my own eyes.''

The Rohigina people have done nothing horrible to the rest of Myanmar unless minding your own bussiness in the country where you belong is a crime or an offence. (Except for the attack that was after the mistreatment ).

And yet Aye Myat Mon a Buddhist woman, quotes '' They do not belong in this country and are not our people. This is a fact. They are illegal immingrants and we're worried they'll overrun our country.''

If these Rohigina people are actually illegal immingrants, how is it possible that in Kobir's biography section in the opinion paper quote '' Says that his his family have lived in Myanmar for hundreds of years.''

In Aung San Suu Kyi biography side of her opinion paper, on the last bullet point, it quotes, '' In 2o15, her political party won Myanmar's first free general election in 25 years. BUT THE MILITARY STILL HAVE A LOT OF POWER IN MYANMAR AND HER RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM IS COMPLICATED.

If you read Aye Myat Mon's opinion again, you will realise that what she has said about them overrunning the country is incorrect when you see the part in capitals. You will wonder How on Earth are those poor Rohingas overrun the WHOLE of Myanmar? Adding the fact that the military still have a lot of power in Myanmar and that they have already burned and killed Rohiginas and their houses.

Aung San Suu Kyi said'' We are concerned to hear that a number of Muslims are fleeing across the border to Bangladesh . We want to find out why this exodus is happening . ''

This WILL make someone VERY confused because SINCE SHE TECHNICALLY RULES OVER THE COUNTRY AND HAS NO IDEA A BUNCH OF ROHIGINAS HAVE ATTACKED THE BURMEESE POLICE WHO LITERALLY SET FIRE TO LOTS OF HOUSES THAT BELONG TO THE ROHIGINAS .THIS REALLY DOESNT MAKE SENSE AT ALL.

Who thinks that Aung San Suu Kyi is suspicious and want to know why she completley has no idea on what is going on?

This is a great post, clever_starfish! I have given you a star for your open-mindedness. Well done for thinking thoroughly about each of the different perspectives. This is exactly what we were hoping for!
I'd like you to think a bit more about Aung San Suu Kyi, do you really think she doesn't know? Or do you think there might be a more subtle reason behind her ignorance? Do you think something else might be going on behind the scenes?

Hello clever_starfish, I'm sorry to say I don't agree with you in this matter! I don't think at all that Aung Sann Suu Kyi is suspicious! I think that she has EVERY idea of what's going on! I think she's just keeping low as to not to get on the bad side of the Military who, at the moment, are radiating power. If she complained about them there was a VERY high possibility that she would get overthrown and LOSE all her power! It took a LONG time to get where she is. I think that Aung Sann Suu Kyi thinks that the event with the Rohingyans is very petty and that there's no reason for her to lose her power for something as small as that!

I agree with the part that she doesn't want to get on the military's bad side.

Hello Olivia, I wanted to say that I have changed my mind about her being suspicious. I say this because she sort of rules the country and she didn’t open her mouth about the issue. This proves that she might want to keep her mouth shut about the situation. Sorry I took long replying

I really like your post because it really describes how you feel. I really know how you feel about how the military still has a lot of power over Myanmar . I mean how would you feel for example .The Muslims have more power than the Christian if you were a Muslim you will be okay but if you were a Christian you will feel like you have no choice . You really put your self in their shoes clever starfish .
