Dear Mr Gove,
I am am a year 6 student at Hammond School in Lightwater, which is in your constituency in Surrey Heath. I am writing to you in regards of the Hong Kong crisis which is where China are taking control of Hong Kong and many protests have happened and are still happening in the country. Also, China have medalled with elections and are breaking several rules.
I have heard about the crisis on television and have learned a lot in school about it.I would intervene in the Hong Kong crisis because the Sino-British Joint Declaration ( The agreement between Hong Kong Britain and China.) has been broken. The agreement was ment to help Hong Kong discover democracy but China have broken the 1 country 2 systems rule and have changed it to 1 country 1.5 systems as well as China medaling with Hong Kong's elections. The reason to get involved is because Britain ruled over Hong Kong for 150 years -1847 to 1997-
To add to this, any people who get sentenced to trial in Hong Kong will have the trial in China where 99.9% of trialists get punished. Also, Hong Kong's member of parliament is disided by China. Imagine if you were trying to become a member of parliament for Britain but got picked by Germany and not the population you were representing? How would you feel? The people of Hong Kong are not proud to be Chinese and the way of life they enjoy is under threat of changing. They are counting on us to act.
However, we shouldn't intervene with the military because, China's army and population is giant compared to ours, so if we went to war with them we would be outnumbered. China are also one of our big training partners who we have gained(since 2016) £42.6 billion from, and with our trade links to the European Union uncertain we shouldn't loose our trade links with China too. Finally, they are communist so they could attack quickly without any debates.
In conclusion to this, I personally fell that we should intervene but still be cautious about intervening more aggressively. I hope you can recommend this idea about the crisis.
I appreciate you taking time to read my letter and I would like a reply sooner rather than later.
