Dear Mr Gove
I am a year 6 student at Hammond School in Lightwater which is part of your constituency in Surrey Heath. I am writing to you in regards of a major issue in Hong Kong Described as 'The Hong Kong Crisis'. The Hong Kong Crisis started when the Hong Kong goverment introduced a new rule that the citizens didn't agree with. There has been violent protests on the streets since June. To try and stop this violence, the police have been on the streets fireing tear gas and rubber bullets seriously injuring people.
I think that it is Britains duty to intervene with China. I strongly think we should do this because China has a lot of power over Hong Kong that they shouldn't have. For example, in the Hong Kong history, five booksellers sold books that were banned in China. The next day they had disappeared but three weeks later they were all found in prison in China. The rule that the Hong Kong goverment introduced was that if you were caught doing criminal activity, you would be sent to China and delt with there. Hong Kongers say that this is a way for China to target their citizens as China's court is run by their goverment and 99.9%of trials end in convention. You see, after all that China has done, Hong Kong can't rely on them anymore.
Over the years of Hong Kong being part of China, the citizens have showed that they would like to keep their way of life going in many different ways. Such as'The Umbrella Movement' where there was a lot of protesting involved, but China's decision was to just put the Hong Kongers involved in the making in jail. But the. Biggest reasons I think Britain should intervene with China is because of a key moment to n the past for Britain, China and Hong Kong. In 1997, Britaina and China signed the Sino British Joint Declaration which states that Hong Kong will be part of China but it will be one country and two systems until 2047.
Human rights are being destroyed in Hong Kong and it is tremendously effecting innocent citizens lives. China has meddled with their elections, meddled with their lives so therefore I think Britain should intervene before life in Hong Kong gets any worse. However, I know that China is a large trading facility to Britain and also owns a large army but I think it is unexceptable for innocent people with lives just like ours to be suffering out on their own as a consequence of what China has done. I think that it is key to make sure that our intervening doesn't exceed to military level as they s could cause a major problem.
In conclusion, I think that we should intervene as the state in Hong Kong is become go out of hand. I hope you will convince the other members of parliament to believe the same. Remember, Hong Kong is counting on us.
Thank you for spending some of your time to read this letter. I hope to hear a response from you soon.
