Dear James Cleverly
I am a year 6 student at Lyons Hall Primary School which is part of your constituency in Braintree Essex. I am writing to you about the current situation concerning Hong Kong.
During the 1800s China lost many wars to Britain leading to Britain ruling Hong Kong for 150 years.
I think we should intervene because if we don’t people might get hurt when they do a protest. We co-signed the Sino-British joint declaration stating that Hong Kong (under the supervision of china) would keep their freedom of the press. Currently Hong Kong is in crisis: the people are trying to fight for their human rights as we do here in the UK.
Britain are now being called to action as this crisis has been brought to fight for their human rights and many want to continue living with an independent democracy. In Hong Kong people have been kid napped or killed during marches. Since the 1st of October 1949, China has been run by one party the Communist party of China. If after court you were found guilty, then you would be shot in the head straight away. Then, if you are not guilty, you could be shot anyway.
After looking at everything, I think that Britain should get involved because if we don’t I worry that more people will suffer and die. The people of Hong Kong would feel very sad if we don’t help them. I would like it if you could talk to the other MPs about this crisis.
