Hong kong letter

I’m writing to you about the current situation in Hong Kong. I’m going to be writing a for and against reason about why we should and shouldn’t intervene with it. I think the protest is getting out of hand. This is leaving Britain in many questions to think about.

FOR!!

I think we should get involved in this Hong Kong situation because they’re trying to take away rights from people who want says. We have made this really clear with China that Hong Kong should keep their rights until 2047. I also think we should intervene with this because China are breaking the rules that we made this could cause more protests. In China there is a 99.9% chance that when you get a sentence to go to prison you will be found guilty instead of being innocent.

Against!!

I think we shouldn’t get involved because we could start wars by doing this it is a really risky thing to do. I also think we shouldn’t get into this situation because we could stop trading with them but that means we will not get the food that we need or the equipment we might need to use that is from their country. We should also not intervene with this because china has one of the most powerful army’s in the world. This could be a danger to our country and that we could get killed or anything like that. This scares me because I don’t want to do anything to do with China and that we could get killed.

My opinion!!

I think that we shouldn’t interfere with their problem and that they should deal with it there self. The only reason I think this is because it’s not us who needs to know what is happening even though it is important. If they don’t stop we can just immediately begin to stop trading things with them. This could be a big problem for us because most of the things we have are from china. I also think that we should get a mediator to speak to both states and try and make an agreement with them. I think that we kind of started this cause between the two states. The reason I think we kind of started it by ruling over Hong Kong.

Your sincerely

As you may know, Britain won a series of wars agent China and so that meant we was in charge of Hong Kong for 150 years we ruled then undemocratically and had an absolute rule over the people in Honk Kong. China and Britain signed a contract in 1997 `one country two systems’ and had to give them their independence by 2047. China wanted power over Hong Kong and is breaking the deal.

I do understand that China are in the wrong and is unfair on Hong Kong, we do not want to be on Hong Kong’s side because we will not be friends with China; which means no good trades no money etc. China have a really good army which are stronger than us. A further reason is we haven’t been involved with Hong Kong for 150 years now, THIS IS NOT OUE JOB!

Great Britain and China have an infamously Rocky history, with us taking over HongKong in the 1800’s

Great Britain and China have an infamously Rocky history, with us taking over HongKong in the mid-1800 after China lost a series of wars. However we(Britain)and China signed the Sino-British Joint Declaration in 1997 to agree to help Hong Kong to become an independent Democracy (under supervision of China.) Unfortunately, China, which lives under state capitalism and China would much prefer ‘one country one system ‘ and so Hong Kong’s Democracy is under threat.
In conclusion I think we should intervene by helping the people of Hong Kong to defend human rights. Human rights important because allow people to live in freedom and make their own chooses. This year we talked a lot about what life must have been like during World War 2 and I was shocked at how similar it was to what’s happening in China at the moment. We need to help the innocent people of Hong Kong, if we wait it might be to late.

During the 1800s Britain won a number of wars against China and Great Britain claimed Hong Kong belonging to them. The British Government took an absolute rule over Hong Kong for one hundred and fifty years but then in 1997 Britain signed the Sino British Joint Declaration stating that they would let Hong Kong build there way up to independence by twenty forty seven. The way China and Hong Kong live now is “one country two systems “ but the way China wants it to be is “one country one system “.
Hong Kong have been fighting against China and I can see why . China have been doing things in terrible ways like replacing MPs who have been voted by Hong Kong with MPs voted by China not only that but Hong Kong’s PM was chosen by China. In Hong Kong there have been book sellers found by the Chinese police . Only a couple survived but they were put in prison . Hong Kong have been forced to live under one rule for a long time but they will not stop fighting until it’s over. Britain have done a lot of trade with China for a long time now so if we helped Hong Kong then we would lose a lot of our products and recourses ,our life would be completely different to what it is like now as well as that China is one of our Allies and we wouldn’t want to make them an Axis . On a the other hand ,it would be wrong for us to not get involved because we signed that contract to so we are apart of this situation as well. We are a morale country so I know that we will do the right thing.

    That’s all from me
