Hong Kong in crisis

Dear MP James Cleverly,

I am a conscientious year 6 student at Lyons Hall Primary School which is within your constituency of Braintree Essex. I am writing to explain my thoughts about the current situation that china and Hong Kong are facing whilst explaining my opinion on whether Britain should intervene or not.

Britain and Hong Kong have a long standing history. during the 1800 china lost a series of wars to Britain which then led to Britain ruling Hong Kong for over 150 years. In 1997 Britain handed Hong Kong back to china and then signed an agreement called the Sino British joint declaration.

Currently Hong Kong is in crisis human rights have been taken away a quarter of the population of Hong Kong are fighting for their rights on the streets of Hong Kong. China has been ruled by president Xi. He has taken away his people’s access to any social media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Britain have now been called to take action to sort things out between Hong Kong and China. In my opinion Britain should intervene because they signed the one country two systems law. On the other hand, Britain should not intervene because China and the UK have been trading for several years and they might not want us to interfere in their business, so they could stop trading with us.

In conclusion, having researched both sides, I believe that we should intervene because I can’t stand Hong Kong suffering any longer. Therefore, I urge you to insist that we help Hong Kong and support people who desperately need us.

Yours sincerely,

A Year 6 student
