Dear Chuka Umunna

Dear Mr Umunna,

I am writing to you about the Hong Kong crisis and whether Britain should interfere or not to the Hong Kong crisis. In my opinion, I strongly believe that Britain should interfere because I think Britain was in this situation before. The crown colony of Hong Kong officially reverted to chinese sovereignty, ending 150 years of British rule. I will reason my points under.

My first point is that Hong Kong is in crisis. I think that Britain should interfere eventhough China's ambassador to the UK has warned British politicians against interfering in Hong Kong's affairs, amid clashes between protesters and police. But I also think that China is the one that shouldn't get involed in the Hong Kong crisis. Furthermore, Britain gave back Hong Kong's country back. Britain was working together with China to take down Hong Kong and signed a contract saying 'one country, two systems.' This is meaning that under this principle, each of the two regions could continue to have its own governmental system, legal, economic and financial affairs, including trade relations with foreign countries. In my next point, I will talk about human rights in Hong Kong.

My second point is that in Hong Kong they have human rights. Hong Kong was ruled by the british colony for 150 years and after 150 years, Hong Kong was ruled and taken over by china. There was an agreement that when we gave back Hong Kong's counrty back, they should have human rights. Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world. Human rights are the fundamental rights and freedoms that belong to every single one of us, anywhere in the world. can never be taken away, although they can sometimes be restricted – for example if a person breaks the law, or in the interests of national security. These basic rights are based on shared values like dignity, fairness, equality, respect and independence.

I hope you do something about it and I hope you will get back!!

Yours Sincerely,

I believe that Britain should not interfere.
Although we have a moral obligation to help the country, there are reasons that we should not help.
Firstly, the majority of our main trading items are imported from China. For example, vehicles (excluding rail), iron and steel, plastics and footwear. This means that if we were to cause a conflict between us and China we would lose those items being imported from China and ;therefore, the economy would crash. Also, if we lost those items, we would have to pay extra money for them for other countries.
Also, if we were to interfere in the situation, it would be negative because China has the biggest army in the world. This is bad because they may start a war with us as a result of us getting involved and they would have more chance of winning and we might lose a lot of people. This shows we should not intervene because it could result in a war.

In conclusion, I believe that we should not get involved in the situation because we will lose trade and it may start a war.
