Dear Mr Gove,

I am a Year 6 student at Hammond Junior School in Lightwater, Surrey, which is your constituency in Surrey. I am writing to you with reagards to the awful political crisis taking place in Hong Kong. I am sure by the end of this letter you will agree we need to intervene with this terrible crisis because China are violating Hong Kong's human rights.

Firstly, we Britains care a lot about human rights and do everything in our power to make sure they are not violated, but China are breaking the law by not respecting Hong Kong's rights. In 1997, Britain handed Hong Kong back to China and agreed to make a one country two systems agreement this meant it was illegal for China to meddle in Hong Kong's elections, freedom or rights. In 2015, Hong Kong book sellers disappeared and then reappeared in China prisons. This again, is violating human rights is it not?

Secondly, China are being very violent with Hong Kong, they are using their police and brute force to shut down protests and not letting them protest. In 2014, a protest called the umbrella movement (containing 2 million people a quarter of their population) got so violent, China police started using smoke bombs and rubber bullet guns seriously injuring people.

Thirdly, Britain is a is a friendly country that respect others. We have a policy of intervening in other countries problems when they are in crisis. Even if China decared a war on us, we won a series of wars against China in the 1800s. If we did it then, we can do it now.

In conclusion, it is clear as daylight that Hong Kong's rights are being violated, yet we still do nothing. China are fully controlling Hong Kong and we are just standing here letting them suffer. Is that truly what you want? As a member of parliament it is your responsibility to help make important decisions to aid other countries and do what is best for this country. As my evidence states, Hong Kong is in a crisis and needs help.

Thank you for taking your time to read my letter and I hope to hear that something will happen soon to address this issue.

Yours sincerely,

delightful_fig
