Why should we consider doing volunteering works?

It is true that when we volunteer we don't get paid. However, being a force for good through serving our community and bringing positive changes and joy to the lives of people we help, fill us with pride and gives us huge fulfilment.

In fact, volunteering is for all people, old, young ,black, white, big, small, man, women. There are a variety of jobs we can volunteer in. For example, helping the the elderly or the disabled, working for charities or in our local libraries or councel. Some people may even travel overseas to join those refugee camps where there are many people who are fleeing violence and unrest back home and who are in desperate need for assistance.Through volunteering, we become more humane and compassionate and we develop sympathy to those who are around us who are going through hard time. As a result, we become less selfish and less stressed as we realise that our problems are not as serious as they seemed to us before.besides, we get the opprtunities to meet people with different personlities and sometimes form friendship ties with some of them. Also, volunteering is very beneficial as it helps us to improve our communication skills and allow us to acquire working experience that will be very valuable to us in the future. Another big positive thing about volunteering is that it isn't time consuming it means that you can do the usual stuff like studying and hanging out with friends. In addition to this, volunteering job can be sometimes very good for our physical health as you will be shovelling driveways, saving cats off trees and helping old people with their daily chores. Also, the smile we draw on the face of peple we help and the great difference we make in their lives will certainly give us a great self-satisfaction and happiness .Another thing is that at this difficult time of the covid 19 pandemic, we need to look after the elderly and the vulnerable who are more at risk of catching the virus and maybe dying. So presently we need volunteering more than even although we have these new rules of lockdown , we,fit people, can help by the fit those elderly and vulnerable people by doing their daily shopping and bring medications for them and putting it on their doorsteps.

In conclusion volunteering is very rewarding for both yourself and the person you are helping. So it is really worth considering taking a volunteering job.

A very good post that uses facts and examples to support your points - part of the speaking skill. Well done! I have made this an Editor's Pick as I think it starts an excellent discussion - I'd love to hear what other people think.

Can you think of any reasons why volunteering is a bad idea?
    Should everyone volunteer?
if you don't volunteer, are you a bad person?

It depends on what you volunteer for. If you volunteer to help clean the ocean, it would be an amazing idea but if you volunteer for something violent it wouldn't really be a good idea at all.

I mean by being a hitman or being in a gang or just something that results in somebody getting hurt.

If you don't volunteer some people might consider you as a bad person. But people don't usually volunteer like maybe night cafes because their scared something might happen to them. Some people don't bother at all thinking about it since they are caught up in work and they merrily don't have time for it since they might have work and their and their family's needs. Maybe not everyone should volunteer don't get me wrong volunteering is a nice thing to do! But things would go chaotic since if everyone is volunteering them maybe they would have to miss their jobs to do that. Things might end up badly for them like getting fired because they're in a rush to volunteer. Maybe you play a crucial part in a company you work with so if you miss a meeting everything can go down from there

In my opinion no one should be forced or have to do voluntary work but they should know that it doesn't benefit them, but benefit others. It will mean that when they get to the gates of heaven they can say that they have tried in life, that they have been a good person, and that they have helped others. It will mean that when you reflect back on your life, you can say that you were a good person. Doing voluntary work can give you enjoyment, as well as help others in many ways. Voluntary work doesn't take a huge amount of effort, but has a great benefit. I disagree with empathetic_brain with his first sentence in his comment a couple above mine that says that "people might consider you as a bad person" because you shouldn't have to. Yes it is good to get involved, but you shouldn't be forced at all. It is not something that everyone needs to do, which is why I find it unfair that people might consider you a "bad person". You may be a lazy person, or someone that flatly refuses to get involved, but you could never be a "bad person". We volunteer to help others who are in need which is why they need help, and we can suffer the consequences of us not helping them.

Thanks for reading my comment, and keep volunteering!

Some interesting thoughts there, accomplished_reality! Thank you for joining the conversation. You say "voluntary work doesn't take a huge amount of effort" but why might people disagree with you?

I suppose but it depends how much work you are doing. You could be doing a very small amount of work like just helping out at an event which isn't much effort. However, if you were going to do something that is constant then it could be hard work.

Even I think we should help out because everyone is stressed out and the may find it hard to work so what I'm trying to say is to give a hand so it makes it easier and that may benefit your future as you are helping. Especially, when it is carrying stuff as sometimes the object can be heavy if you help out it will be way easier for the person to carry it.Now in this pandemic, people find it hard since they can't work as usual and may miss their shop, like that when people are having a hard time it's great to cheer them up so they can forget the stress.Like this anyone can help as a act of kindness which always leads to success.

I think that volunteering is a good thing because some people are less fortunate than ourselves and we should help them. the covid pandemic has taught me that helping people is important and I think that most children and adults should volunteer.
