A few months ago on Friday 29th May celebrated 50 years equal pay act. Sadly, not everyone is pay the same salery at the exact same job. Why? Well, we are about to find out...
Even though unequal pay is illegal in the UK, many people are still having to indure this. This is called Gender Pay Gap, and I think this is totally unacceptable. The gender pay gap is the average difference between hourly wages for men and women. Since changes to the Equality Act came into force, companies with more than 250 employees have been legally required to report their gender pay gap figures by the end of the year. Sadly, this will not happen because of the CoronaVirus Pandemic. This means that thousands of people could be having uneaqual pay this year, because of buisneses that are refusing to pay equallly.
In December 2018, the World Economic Forum reported that it will take 202 years to close the gap. I did some research and found out that:
- Men that were single were getting paid $25,000 but women were getting paid $21,500.
- Women that were married but with no children were gettimg paid $30,400 but men were getting paid $48,000
- Men that were married & had children were getting paid $58,000 but women were getting paid $35,00
This mean that women aren't getting paid the amount of salalry that men were getting paid when they were married, which is outrageous. If find this sexist towards women. Even though this is on average, it could still be a real amount of money. Even when the women are bosses they are still getting paid less than men. When men were being paid $90,000 (on average) & women are still being paid less. Women are being paid $62,00 when men are being paid $90,000. This is a 31% decrease off a men salary. This is when they are working at the same level, and the same amount of hours.
