The most important thing in a job that everyone needs is to study hard! First off to get a job everybody obviously needs to get a good degree and need to of studied hard. Studying can’t get to you to somewhere that you never imagined you to get to. StudyingIs very good for us and this is why we have the burnet News club. To conclude everything I’ve said I think the main thing that you need and is important in a job is to be very smart and kind

Hi there, you have raised some interesting ideas! However, some people can have very successful careers by studying, but not going to University. Is there any career paths you can think of that would not need a degree?

    eager_reflection here,
I think that the mental rewards are most important in a job. This is because these are things that are not normally noticed, but the person experiencing it will know. Say you are, for example, a doctor, and you have just finished a complicated operation. You would feel very proud as it was very hard to pull off, and the job is very rewarding, because you have just saved another person's life, one of the most precious things. I think that a job also should help you learn a lot. If you are a lawyer, you learn things from every case that you are given, as every case is different in some way. A job also has to be something you enjoy. This is because if you don't enjoy it, you won't put as much effort into it than you would for a job you like.
    Thank you for reading.

Hi eager_reflection, thanks for such a thoughtful post! I was really interested in your thoughts around job satisfaction, and I agree that a doctor must get an amazing feeling of satisfaction if they save a life. But in a job like that do you think they would get that feeling all day, every day? What else might they have to deal with?

As a young child , I don't have a job. The most important thing while doing a job is what you make of it. Now I personally feel that jobs now are not as positive ; my mother worked at a job for let's say 11 or 12 years- no enjoyment at all . She never saw when I first walked a child ,nor my twin sister. My mother always said her work job was horrible and worthless -it was like she had to stand there and do nothing for 8 hours. Now, my mother it getting a new job where she can ACTUALLY share her ideas and put more effort. Jobs are not as great as career , the title should have been "What do you think is the most important in a career?".
    Thanks for reading

You state your opinion very clearly, strong_tomato, and it's true that many people are faced with the challenge of balancing work and family commitments. I'm really glad to hear your mother is in a job she enjoys more. It's an interesting distinction between job and career - it's arguable that in many cases one leads to the other. What do you think is the most important thing in a career?

I think the most important thing in a job is that you get to help people. You make people's lives easier, and that is the most rewarding thing of all.
If you can help one person with one thing, your day is a success! No matter what, you must always help someone in need. You will never get any pleasure from being nasty, nor any joy. I say, if you want to be well-known, be well-known for kindness!!

    STAY HOME, SAVE LIVES

But, do you think that if you were spending money to hire someone to do a job you would always be satisfied with helping one person to do one thing? What might success look like from an employer's perspective?

In my opinion, I think the passion for your field of work and finding a good work environment should be top priority. I think this because the average person spends 1/3 of their life working, which is 90,000 hours over your lifetime. Imagine waking up everyday in the morning to get ready, just to go somewhere that isn't making you happy? Not only will it make you happier doing something you love, it will improve your work performance. According to the University of Warwick, a study found that happier employees are 12% more productive, while unhappy employees are 10% less productive. Overall, this means it will help your employers/company too, as a happy workplace contributes to the business' success. Happiness helps to improve productivity, therefore the employees' performance is much more valuable. Some people might argue that they will sacrifice their happiness for their job if it pays well, but at the end of the day money cannot buy happiness. Although your salary is important to help you with basic necessities and to support your family, working purely for the pay check may hurt you in the long term.
This also relates to finding a good work environment because the people you work with play a huge factor in your happiness. According to Forbes, 66% of employees would quit if they feel unappreciated. If you feel as if you're undervalued or treated unfairly, it can affect your motivation to put in 100%, because some may think their hard work is not being recognised.

In my opinion, i think that the most important job is a doctor because you help people, you get a lot of money and to help someone isn’t just kind it’s happienes to because that person wants to be okay and you help them. Example:”I’ve been cothing a lot and I really need to go to the doctors” The doctor helps the person and said what happens. “You saved my life thank you so much !! I would of suvived withought you. I also think the doctor is the most important job because as a doctor saves a life it really (I think) saves a family because the family is eating fro the person and if the doctor couldn’t help the person the family would be sad and has lost a person. But family is a really important thing in life and that’s why a doctor is imposrtant

I think that the most important thing in a job is to work hard and be bright. If you don't work hard you could get fired
because, you aren't doing very well they could replace you easily. If your not very bright this could lead to not being
very liked here's a list of the things they won't do if you don't be very bright or not be working hard.

    -new equipment
    -better workplace
    -help
    -money
    -friends

People also don't let you to any meetings or important stuff.

    Hi Tom,
I have a bit of a different approach to this question; I think that it is the machines/equipment used in a job that is the most important.
I say this because if the tools that you are using do not function properly or they are not doing the job well enough, then you are not able to get the money that you earn doing the job.
I also think that if the other people working in the job are not working properly, then you are not able to co-operate, and so you cannot do enough work, you don't get paid enough, and eventually, you may be fired.
These views I think are especially important as, if these two roles/opinions are not fulfilled, then one, or many people will have a hard time trying to work, and not just with their current job, but with their entire career; if a person is fired because of an equipment malfunction, but on their CV it says they were:
    "Fired for lack of work".
If this happens, then they may not be able to get another well-paid job, or they may not be able to feed their family because of a lack of funds due to work loss.
I hope you consider these views,

Very interesting approach, ingenious_forest. You've unearthed some of the root causes of what people find "important". Do you think that if tools/machinery fails, it has that big of an impact - e.g. someone being fired? From experience it's much more likely that a company will be understanding and not blame the employee, and put systems in place to still get work done without the technology.

    Hi Tom,
In my opinion I think that all the jobs are really important since without one of them something would be missing. For example, without a doctor people would be sick and some would sadly die. There are some jobs where people have to work harder then others but overall each job is important. Imagine one job and think if we didn’t have something would be missing wether it is a bus driver, cleaner, doctor anyone. However, there are many jobs which are harder then others.

        Hi Tom,
I didn’t realise that was the question but this is my answer. In my opinion the most important thing in a job is the enjoyment. The reason I say this is because no matter what job you doing yes it is great to help people but you cant just be forced to do it you should do it because you like helping people or it is what you want to do. Plus some people have to do there job quite a lot and if you don’t enjoy it then it is just a waste of your day and you want spend your day with happiness. I understand it is sometimes hard to find a job that you enjoy but I think it is better to keep on searching then just giving up.

It is very important to do the kind of job that appeals to you so that you can get satisfaction and self fulfilment you hope for . But It is equally crucial that the environment you are working in shouldn't be hostile as this will stifle your creativity and limit your productivity. Therefore, I Personally think that a pleasant job atmosphere can be a driving force in any successful career. It is undeniable that working under the supervision of a controllable and exploitative manager or being part of a team made of bullying colleagues will put you under unbearable pressure leading you at the end to quit your job because you are fed up of being controlled like a dummy when you want to feel free like an eagle.

Great post consistent_starfruit! I agree (from experience) that a good working environment is a crucial factor for happiness and success. I also agree that exploitative managers and bullying colleagues are no good, either for how you enjoy a job or how well you do. But, when you talk about 'controlling' it made me wonder - do you think that some workers would perform better in that type of environment, or whether some situations at work would make a controlling environment necessary? Really interested to hear your thoughts!

In my opinion I think that all jobs are important. Surely, not every job is the best and you may not appeal to you, but when you are in a job you should remember that you are serving your community in your own way. Everybody's job matters no matter how big or small. For example, if we have no cleaners we would have streets full of litter. Another example is if we have no teachers how are children or young people supposed to learn and go somewhere in life. Moreover, If you want to have a top notch job you need to study and persevere in order to get hold of it. We also need to remember that some people aren't able to feed their families because , for one reason or another, they are jobless. As people say 'we should also be grateful for what we have'.

I think that one of the most important jobs is a psychologist. My reasons for this is because a psychologist helps people through their struggles and helps them deal with disabilities and overall to be a better person. Without this job people might behave in the wrong way and can struggle so much that they might commit suicide. Another reason I think this among many jobs this is one of the best is because if you are are feeling down in the dumps you can find someone to talk to and feel assured as well as comforted that you don't have that stress inside you and you have finally let that flood of emotion out. We need psychologists more than ever especially in these times where people are getting so depressed and anxious that they are having to do drug overdoses and rioting. Even studies show that the suicide rate has gone up and many people are left depressed because of their worries of covid-19 or because of a loved one they lost. Psychologists are just like doctors but unlike doctors they cure emotions while doctors cure illnesses so you can think of psychologists as the doctor of emotions. Psychologists work is left unnoticed and I think they should get more attention because their work is as brilliant and as interesting as doctors because they too are saving lives and I think it would be interesting to learn how to solve other peoples problems and how they think about specific situations. You have heard my reason why this specific job is the best now share me yours.

I am just a child so I don't know what it is like to have a job but I think the most important thing in a job is to be happy because when you are happy, you won't mind working extra hours and that means you will be paid more and you can look after your family. Ray Bradbury's famous quote is 'Do what you love, love what you do.' and I think if you love what you do or find the bright side in your job you will be willing to work whole-heartedly and if your manager or boss sees your enthusiastic spirit, I am sure he will be pleased with you and you might even be given a promotion. You will achieve much more this way and you will be happy because you are a respected person, you will have money and will be able to support your family with no trouble.

In my opinion, I think that there are two most important things in a job and these are; to work in a job that you love that makes you happy and to be hard working.

I think that you need to be in a job you love because then you will be happy, so you would want to always try your best, keep on pushing yourself higher as well as challenging yourself and if you do you would be very good at your job. You would be willing to work and when you work in a job where you are enjoying it you might want to do extra hours as you would want to always try your best so you might get paid more even if you don't care if you get more or less money and you might even get promoted to something that's even better so you would enjoy it even more and to continue to push yourself to an even higher position through hard work and a good positive attitude.

If you are not in a job that you enjoy then you won't be happy, so you will not put much effort. You would be miserable and you wouldn't care about the work your are supposed to, so you would make mistakes that might even affect other people's work you work with. If you do that then you would get paid less, continuously get into trouble and maybe even get fired. If you get fired then you won't have any money and you might even end up being homeless.

If you are hardworking it doesn't matter what job you do (though you should do a job you like) because then you would be completely focused in the work, improve your skills and get better and you might get pay rise, even if you are not totally happy in your job / work.

Gradually, you might actually start to like the job so you would enjoy working, and you would get even more better at it.

This is why I think that working in a job that you love and being hardworking are the two most important things in a job.

I think, that the most thing about whatever it is, learning and expanding your mind, (if you don't have any family that lives with you) or, earning money for your family to live as well as you. I know that food/water/electricity bills cost a lot of money every week. If you don't have any family members, expand your mind to get better jobs to get you to a happier life. But, money isn't just the thing about jobs, its about being kind to yours clients or customers that want to purchase something or having interest and want you to tell you everything about that item.It also gives you a happier life, setting customers/clients off with a good day knowing or purchasing any of the items that you have.

As a young person I believe the most important thing in a job is the money because if we don't have money we won't have food or water or clothes, not even a home. But then again I also believe friendship will link to my first point because if we don't make a relationship with anyone this would create a HUGE impacts on our daily lives for an example if we don't make a bond with the boss then maybe the money would go less than it was. Then again your own emotions matter because working extra hours or extra shifts won't bother you like this quote I made that links with this 3rd point 'Do what you want to do, don't force yourself to do it.'

I think helpfullnesss is the most important thing in a job because say you are a doctor and somebody needed help for a sickness or disease or anything, you would definitely need to help, so when somebody shows helpfulness it helps the sick patient. Also, kindness is important as if you show rudeness, you might not do the job as a doctor properly and hurt the patient EVEN more😁

I think that the most important thing in a job is for you yourself to enjoy it as well as earning good money out of your work, like teachers they have low wages but they teach because they enjoy teaching the children and that they are passionate for it. Unlike sometimes people only work is too take care of their family and make sure that each family member gets their needs or maybe pay for bills and look after them. Some people maybe dislike their job or dislike the people that they might work with but they still work to earn money for what they need so they don't complain. Some people want a job but can't get one to support their family or for their own needs because they lack skill of some sort and knowledge so this is why I think it's important to enjoy be passionate for your job and earn good money.

I think that most jobs are important because if u are a doctor or nurse you could be saving lives but if u are a teacher you will help people study and if u are a farmer you are growing food and crops for people to eat see I don't think that there is just one important job .

I think that the most important part off your job is that you get paid because if you don’t get paid it’s like being a mum and you don’t get paid at all the only thing you get paid is hugs from your kid. You need too get paid because you could get poor for not having a single penny or pound.

I thing the best job is a doctor because they help people which make people happy and safe from the risk of dyeing. But other people maybe think different, like a footballer or a tennis player, I think this is because they either like them kind of sports or they just don't like being a doctor this could be on of the reason because it is not my opinion.

As people say children are the future, i think the most important thing in a job is pleasure and the money. i chose money and pleasure because you have to like a job to do it well. the nicer you are, the more others like you and will give you more money which results in a promotion. the more money you make, the more you will be able to provide for yourself and your family

I think that the main parts of a job is to be resilient, successful and sustainable in what you do. These are all key, and although many are important, such as enjoying what you do, I think that all three should be regarded the most highly.

    • Resilient
If you are resilient at a job, you can be doing many things. You could be trying to keep =active with your job, or you could be trying resiliently to get more people in your market. Either way, it is very good. I think that resilient can be useful in a job, and is key because you will never give up, and keep on going harder and harder, so that in the end you can literally do your job with ease. If you are resilient at the job, then that will probably lead you too be more and more...

    •Successful
Being successful at your job will benefit you, and probably others, greatly. I think that this will have maybe the biggest impact out of the three, as it would be very good for industry, and also could make you yourself feel a little better than that of what you are already feeling. The only bad thing is if you are too successful, and the strain is too much for you. That would lead to the opposite.

    •Sustainable
Although working hard and well is good, you also should be very efficient in regarding things such as nature and the environment. If you are using resources that are bad for them, then you should stop and think. There could be another way to complete your mission without having to use it. However, if the whole industry is not good for the environment, such as the smoking ones, then try to be as more efficient regarding other things, or just resign and try to stop them publicly.

All of these three are very important, and I think that they should be taken into account whenever anyone is working.

This is a really good comment reflective_artic_fox but don't you think that you don't only need to be successful or kind in a job you can get a job by even just asking for one so in my opinion you don't really have to be successful im not saying don't be successful you do have to be successful but in some people cases they just ask for a Job and they get the job. Hi Tom
I think the most important part of a job is that you are doing the right thing and respect because some people are saying it's the money that's inportent I totally agree but respect is a another think because if you were rood to a customer or evern to your boss you can get fired and you need to listen what other people are saying you can maybe take that idea and make it a meter one but if you are not listening and some said go and write me a sheet of paper you don't knew what you are doing and that's why respectfully and listing is inporent.

In my opinion,I think being a teacher is an important job This is because they give children purpose and set them up for success as citizens of our world and inspire in them a drive to do well and succeed in life.Teachers are the main reason that we have doctors, engineers, dentist, builder and businessman/businesswoman.Teachers also help you pick your jobs and to do that they find your interests. A teacher is also a person who helps students to acquire knowledge, competence or virtue. Informally the role of teacher may be taken on by anyone if the teachers didn't help then no one will have a job

I believe that the most important thing in a job is your passion for it and how much you love it. I say this because your passion for this particular job may be what helped you decide to apply for a job anyway. To me, there is no point doing a job that you don't love or have any passion for .I am just a child and don't yet know what it's like to actually HAVE a fulltime job, but to me I, think you shouldn't just do a job for the money but because you love it. Do what you love. If you do your job whole-heartedly and focus on it, your dreams may come true and if your boss or manager sees the kind of person you are they will give you a promotion based on that. You can achieve more if you love your job and put all you heart and strength into it. You will get paid more and will be able to provide for your family easily.

I think there are many important jobs, in fact I don't think there is such thing as a more important job they are all amazing in there own way. Although, I do think that jobs that help there community, country and even world!

Doctors and nurses, teachers even people who work in shops to who work behind the scenes like scientists and delivery drivers. These are all very important people and they play a big part in the economy so we should keep in mind the people who play such a big part in our daily life.

This is my view, hope you consider.

I think that there are more than one thing that is the most important aspect in work, and in this comment I will explain what I think they are.

The first aspect that I want to explore is enjoyment. One of the arguably most important aspects of work is that you enjoy what you are doing. If you didn't enjoy what you are doing than you won't be motivated to work and then the standard of work will drop in till it will start to be badly done and not only that you would want to have fun and enjoy it. As well as this, if you didn't enjoy work, then you wouldn't work, meaning not only that you won't have any money and it would make your life miserable, the company won't have any employment and that won't benefit the economy at all. The second aspect that I want to mention is the company being sustainable. What I mean by this is that, if needed, the company can pay any bills and pay any of the workers even if there is no company income. It is good when companies buy there workers desks and chairs and computers and other items like that, which is crucial now as most people are working from home. The next thing I want to mention is what makes work good to the person working. The most obvious of these is money. Money helps motivate people to work and it is also the key of life and without money, life is going to be tough and hard for you.

Thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed

I think one of the most important parts of a job is effort. If you had a job and you didn't put any effort in then you wouldn't get very far. Effort is the reason you are in the job and if you didn't put effort in then you would probably be fired. Putting in effort for your job can give you pay rises, give you promotions and mean that you are more likely to be wanted in your job. If you put effort in, you could end up running half the company. The point of a job is that you put effort in and pretty much just do as they ask. So in my opinion, this is definitely the most important part of a job.

Also, like a lot of other people on this post have said, I agree that enjoyment/happiness is a key part of job. If you don't enjoy your job, you often find it harder to do, which won't really help you get any where. However, in part, I kind of disagree with it. Most people have jobs they don't enjoy, because they have to. Most of the time you can't just get the job you want, so you end up with a different job. Also, as well as the fact that you often don't have a choice, is that most jobs you won't enjoy anyway. Jobs are harder than they may seem in the first place, which is why it is unlikely that you will enjoy it. It could be argued that you may enjoy it, and that is why I only agree with that side of the argument in part.

    Thanks for reading,
