Should we Privatise the NHS?

At the moment the NHS is paid for by taxes, meaning everyone has to contribute. Should we have a private system like America where each person has to get their own health care? This would mean people who aren't sick do not have to pay for other peoples illness.

Although this is a short post, it's a good question and I'd love to you to add more to it in the comments. Could you explain how healthcare works in the US and provide evidence of whether it has been successful or not?

The UK health service is much better than the USA. We know this because the UK health service is much better than the USA. For example, if you get referred to have a scan in the UK it would be free, but in the USA it would cost between $500-$1000. It would also mean that if you were really bad incident and you had to have loads of surgeries and treatment it would cost you a lot of money and probably make you in debt. Whereas if you were in the UK you would get free health care and treatment.
Some people may disagree with this statement because the UK technically still has to pay because if you work you have to pay taxes which then pays for the national health service (NHS). It also means that if you are not ill your money that you give to the government will be used on someone else who needs it. Whereas in the USA you pay for only your treatment and not anyone else’s.
If you were a poor person in the USA and you needed some health treatment and you couldn’t afford it you would just die as you couldn’t go to the hospital to get some treatment. This is why the USA needs to copy the UK health service.
I think the strongest argument is the UK has a better health service than the USA. I think this because the UK has a better health service as it’s free whereas in the USA its very expensive. I think the USA should get some inspiration form us and give the people a better health service.

Could you give your evidence for the statistic about the cost?

We shouldn't privatise the NHS as when you are ill or have cancer you don't want to have to pay up to $10000 a month for treatment. This suggests that we shouldn't privatise the NHS because it is like being taxed even more for being ill which is not fair and morally incorrect as these people are trying to survive.

I personally believe that if we all contribute to 1 cause we become more understanding towards people that need surgery or become more understanding towards people that require a more sensitive aspect of attention. In addition to this as a community if we become more understanding we can support the people we don't normally respect or understand.

Although paying for your personal health care can be very expensive, you can also pay for the treatment you need to pay for instead of having to pay around 1800 pounds a year in tax for the treatment of others. On the other hand, we should not privatise the NHS because otherwise we would have to pay a lot of money .

Personally, I believe that we should not privatise the NHS. This is because it will affect the people who do not have as much money could not afford treatment. People who are homeless tend to gain health issues more than others- such as respiratory problems, skin illnesses and malnutrition. This means they need more healthcare than others. However, if we were to have a private health service , homeless people could not afford to get treatment and consequently could die or get serious illnesses. Another problem with privatizing the NHS is that the people who run the system would only care about the money
