UPDATED advice for Global Conversation students - please read!

We are enjoying the discussion on the Hub and we hope you are too. Here are some extra tips to help to help you use the website correctly.
Posts
- If you are completing the session activities you should add your answers to the comments section at the bottom of the page. Do not “write post”
- One-line posts will be deleted
- We don’t want big fact-files. Facts are good but we really want to hear your opinion, supported by facts. Tell us what you think and what evidence has led you to that opinion. Ask some questions to other people to start a discussion
- Only use images in the image library or upload images that you have drawn yourself. Other images will be deleted as we do not have the copyright to use other people’s work
- We recommend you write about 2-3 posts in total over the course of the project. The rest of the time you should write comments
Competitions
- You should only enter the weekly competition once so take time to make your entry perfect
- Enter the weekly competition by scrolling down and writing in the comment box, do not “write post”
Comments
- You should always explain your ideas and opinions. Comments like “I agree” will no longer be accepted
- Try to reply to people! This is a global conversation: ask about other people’s opinions, share your experiences and learn from each other
Stars
- You can win skills stars when they show excellent communication and critical-thinking skills: reasoning, open-mindedness and scepticism. Now that you have settled in, we will raise the bar. Stars will be harder to win!

And really importantly...
- Do not use your own names on the Hub
- Everything must be in your own words
- And, lastly... volcanoes and tsunamis are NOT weather!
Have fun!

According to exploration in space, scientists are saying that there are some beings called aliens.but I don't get it how can an organism live in space, where there are poisonous gases that kills organism? are those organism not beings?why is it that when human beings go to space some lose their lives but aliens still lives.do aliens not breath air like we do?
I guess they do
In fact I have been pondering on this for long
Maybe they are much adapted to live in the space more than the human beings.

For this topic what can we talk about because I am confused
The topic is extreme weather - there is a session guide under 'Announcements' which is just like your first BNC session if you were doing it in school!
21 Apr 2020
how to upload videos on your post.
To add a video or sound clip to your post, you must first upload this to the BNC Vimeo account (for video) or BNC SoundCloud account (for sound).
Your teacher has the account details to login. Ask them to help you login and upload!
When you upload your video or sound file, make sure you don’t change the privacy settings!
Copy the link (URL)
Go back to your post and select the box with a red border called 'EMBED MEDIA'
Paste the link (URL)
Select 'SAVE'
Continue writing the post as normal
Once the BNC team have checked your post, we’ll approve it so everyone can see it and you’ll get a notification. This usually takes a day.

Thanks for the information. I will obey the rules
23 Apr 2020
thanks a lot! I had been wondering about the rules and how to earn a star.
23 Apr 2020
This is great advice! I'm new here and i hope i can fit in, also do we go to latest post whenever a new post comes?
That's up to you - you can comment on any of the posts for this issue that you are interested in.
Will we be awarded stars when we exhibit the BNC skills in past issues?
Please focus on the current Issue - Extreme Weather. We will consider contributions to old Issues for approval but we will not be awarding them with stars in the same way we do for this current Issue.
23 Apr 2020
thanks for the tips they are really educative, how does one earn a star in a post.
We give stars for posts or comments that clearly demonstrate one of the skills above.
23 Apr 2020
So please are you trying to say that without the skills above one cant get a star?
Yes, everyone can demonstrate these skills in their comments or posts. Can any of our Burnet News Club members suggest how this can be done?
So apart from getting stars ,is there anything we can be awarded of even if we doesn't get stars?
One school is chosen as a 'Thought Leader' for each topic, and we also publish a Hub Highlights magazine at the end of each topic, which brings together the best contributions to the Hub!

Here the weather is foolhardy and inconsistent. At one moment, it changes and has a relationship with the saying, that is, each of the seasons of the year has a special form in it
23 Apr 2020
Hello,in Kenya, some parts of the country are experiencing serious floods with several deaths reported.I was particularly very sad when I saw bodies of children being pulled from the mud.In Nairobi ,the capital city of Kenya,at least whereas there are rains,we have been lucky not to have floods.
23 Apr 2020
How do we demonstrate the skills above?
In your comments and posts - try to give good reasons, see other points of view, be ready to speak up with your own opinion and also ask for evidence before believing if something is true!
thank you very much
23 Apr 2020
Hello, I am very happy to participate in this project, which is more than wonderful. I think that this project will be a major reason in developing our mental capabilities through our discussion of issues that are very important to our daily life, especially all people of our age who need this project greatly because we are the most thinking and contributing group in our societies. This project has a great role in spreading awareness in our minds in simple and wonderful ways. I want to thank everyone who contributed to this project in my opinion. This image is one of the harsh weather that some people in the world are exposed to, but it is hurricanes, which in my opinion is one of the most difficult forms of harsh weather because of its Significant impact on life I believe that there is a solution to this problem in several ways that differ from one country to another according to the governments that govern it, so I hope that we can solve these problems caused by severe weather that affect peoples ’lives.
From palestine ❤️
23 Apr 2020
Hurricanes are one of the biggest natural disasters that pose a threat to organism and inanimate objects as well.
These "natural monsters" destroy the life of the human being and what he made.
23 Apr 2020
So nice to be here. This hub is set to provoke my thoughts and keep me engaged while staying at home. Thank you.
Yes. I agree!

24 Apr 2020
I would like to thank the committee that designed this most wonderful project, and I promise you that we will comply with the instructions mentioned, and I hope that we are as you think and thank you for our teachers for helping us to participate in this great project.
Not everything that happens on this land is good, there's good and there's bad,but we can't determine whether it is good or not. It's clear in this picture that this extreme weather, particularly the hurricane is very dangerous and huge as it can destroy an entire country since it's huge and very fast. But,how can we reduce the occurrence of hurricanes?? I don't think so, because they are natural phenomena and I don't enter a person with it. This is just my opinion, I don't know if we can reduce it,what do you think??? What safety precautions should be taken when such huge hurricanes occur???

My heartfelt thanks to the authority to give me and my students a chance to express the views of the Disaster issues. I am sure that this initiative must be helpful for the students to be aware the Earth is facing everyday.
We are the human beings responsible for natural disaster. so it is mandatory to make awareness among the students so save our dear Earth. Regarding the issues, The Economist Foundation has taken a great initiative. So, thanks once again to the concerned authority for this wonderful project. No doubt it helps the students.
Now we are all on the threat of COVID-19. Everybody should also be aware of this issues and make social distance. Thank you very much.
Thank you for the kind words - we look forward to hearing from your students! Just a reminder that the Hub is a student-only forum so if you have any questions please do email us!
25 Apr 2020
We grateful to the committee for giving us the opportunity to be part of this wonderful family
25 Apr 2020
Hello, I am very happy to participate in this project aimed at developing our mental capabilities and how great it is to discuss important issues and problems in all of our societies with different people from all countries of the world, as we in our Palestinian society have the category to contribute to building our homeland and help it to progress, develop and develop. And I think that a hurricane is a harsh, violent and very fast wind that can destroy in a few minutes a whole city. It is very dangerous because it uproots trees, flowers and a lot, which makes the human effort to think and manufacture it.
25 Apr 2020
Thanks for this educative interaction programme

26 Apr 2020
Not all the space has poisonous gases , the plant Mars people can live in it
As an expert told us a few Issues ago - Mars is not a very good place for people to live - they called it a "horrible planet"! https://burnetnewsclub.com/issues/space-exploration/experts/exomars-rover-engineer-abbie-hutty-speaks-bnc/
I agree with you. When I was reading an advanced storybook about the solar system, It said that one of Saturn's moons, Titan had some life forms but water is scarce.

Thanks but in Kenya some counties people die. The floods in Kenya are getting more in some counties. But in the capital city people are very lucky because the rain falls and there is no floods. In some areas in Nairobi the sewages are filled with the rains and the floods may flow on roads. The floods too may make a river . If someone stands at the river he or she will be taken away by the water.

Those who actually experienced the events serve as primary source of information which can be relied on for taking actions to prevent the future occurance therefore must be interviewed.
29 Apr 2020
People who have experienced extreme weather conditions are the best to tell and share their experiences. Since they are direct victims, they can the victims of weather conditions it good to hear from them . They should be made ambassadors of extreme weather impact in their communities. People who are affected by flooding, hurricanes tsunamis etc know best and can help to create awareness about the impact of extreme weather events.
29 Apr 2020
For the past ten years a lot of extreme weather events have occurred. In 2012, for example, the southern part of the US experienced extreme weather conditions. The impact resulted in several casualties. Hurricane Sandy caused considerable damage and loss of lives. The cost of damage was estimated at several millions of US dollars. Also the western US specifically California experienced ravaging wildfires. The economic effects of such occurrence was felt statewide, nationwide and indirectly internationally.

Noted
Can you research from the internet or it must come from your thinking?
You can research on the internet, but then write the comment in your own words. If you have used a lot of information from a different website, please include the link to the website so other people can look too.
12 May 2020
Pls in total, how many post is one need to write?
In total, you should only write 2 or 3 posts (maximum) over the course of the project. You can comment as many times as you like.
Olivia please, that it mean that i can not write 4 post?
Yes, please write your responses as comments and not posts.
Okay, thank Tom for the explanation
12 May 2020
Thanks for the tips it will help us so much.
13 May 2020
Thank you for this question it really needs thinking. I according to my point of view I think those called aliens might be adapted to that environment and that's why it's hard for them to lose their lives.
But I also have a question for you where did you got this idea from that according to scientists it's so for the aliens?
13 May 2020
I will support you by saying that it's a brilliant idea if someone just write a post or a comment in his or her own words. Because if we rely in the internet things so that you can write this might be a bit difficult. Because the moment one does that it can be hard for him/ her to every think for her own ways since used in rely in internet.
Thank you
I agree with you
28 May 2020
Thanks so much for the advice I will heed to the instructions .
