Floods of the earth

Flood is an overflow of a large amount of water beyond its limits, especially dry lands. Flood is caused by ...
1. Heavy rains
2. Overflowing waters
3. Broken dams
4. Urban drainage basins
5. Storm surges
6.Tsunamis
7. Channels with steep sides
8. Lack of vegetation
9. Melting of snow and ice
Floods have large social consequences for communities and individuals. As most people are well aware, the immediate impacts of flooding include loss of human lives, damage of properties, destruction of crops, loss of livestock and deterioration of health conditions owing to waterborne disease. There are three types of flood they are fluvial flood- it occurs when the water level in a river, stream, or lakes rises and overflows onto the surroundin banks, shores and neighboring land, pluvial flood- flash flood and surface waters, coastal flood- storm surge. You can survive floods through...
1. If you have time prior to evacuation, secure your home .
2. Turn of utilities at the main switches or valves if instructed to do so.
3. Do not walk through moving waters🌊
Flood can be prevented if drainage systems are totally covered to prevent litter from getting through them.
PLEASE STAY SAFE🌹

We should stay away from flooded places eg people who are near mountains ,rivers dams and lakes to migrate from there
That's an interesting idea congenial_journalist! What do you think would be the impact of people staying away from areas that flood? Do you think there could be both positive and negative effects?
I think there will be a negative effect because the rivers and lake area they are people who survive through staying due to maybe they work as fisherman so if they stay away it will affect their living even foreign exchange can be affected
Moving away from water areas such as rivers and lakes has a negative and positive effect. The negative effect is that these areas may be a source of subsistence, so they obtain water in most of their activities, and they may have a residence for their subsistence and agricultural crops in these areas. As for the positive effect, it would have avoided the risk of death.
Thanks so much for commenting on my post, I’m very pleased.👏

Hi BNC, I would like to share my opinion on how to survive a flood.
1) Don't stay on low ground, stay on high ground! It's dangerous to be on the low ground because of floodwater, it could give you a dangerous ride.
2) Evacuate if necessary. When it is appropriate, try and evacuate. If there was a flood right a the border there is no time for evacuating. If there was no time like on the first point get on high ground.
3) If you come across floodwater that goes up to your ankles don't continue going, turn around, don't drown and go the opposite way. If you keep going there you will be unlikely to survive. You will be soaring away in the water, which will be very dangerous for you.
Here are my 3 points (in my opinion) on how to survive a flood.
Thank you for listening to me.

The post talks about floods. Here in Kenya we are suffering from floods and people are dying. Houses are destroyed so people are evacuating from their homes🏃🏘 because of floods🌊.

Flood is overflow of water that submerges land that is usually dry,
It can be prevented by planting of trees, cleaning our drainages basins and constracting strong bridges,
And to educate people not to live near flowrivers coz it dangerous when there's a lot of rain

Many people are really in a bad state
Thanks

can flooding be cause y choked gutters?
The causes of the flooding is as a result of the improper settlement of that area. In Accra here in Ghana, chocked gutters which block the drainage systems and a few other human factors. At least 25 people have died from the flooding directly, while a petrol ⛽️ station explosion 💥 caused by the flooding killed at least 200 more people. Yes, flooding can be caused by chocked gutters.

And can flooding be controlled by digging the grounds of flooded areas?
I am not sure of that.
Can you say why?
Okay, that is fine. But why are you not sure.

In my country the western part is facing alot of floods due to havy rains hence making many families to loose their properties and some of their people.I think people living near lakes should evacuate from those places so as to save themselves.
What might be some challenges that come with mass evacuation?
There will be congestion of people in an one area and hence making some of the basic needs not to be found and in this situation we are going through it may increase the number of people with the virus.
I agree with you Land_use management therefore plays a key role in flood risk management and land use planning .prudent use of land and natural resources is the solution to controlled flooding and prevention of environmenal degradation .
The authorites responsible for planning should design strategies that include storm water convyance system and comparative planning options to prevent flooding .
They should liaise with weather departments to come up with sustainable plans depending on the weather forecast.
This are unplanned settlements which leads to increase floods.
We should plan we'll to prevent floods
As mentioned by jolly_choclate floods can be prevented if we have good drainage system.
Thankyou for reading
Well done for connecting your points to ideas of others!
Thanks Tom

Over the past days, weeks, months and years we have wittnessd Severe flood in various parts of the country .
While this is attributed to high intensity rainfall, the impacts of these floods is made worse due to unplanned human activites .
These include house and structures built on valley, near river banks and settlements without without good road access .This has led to proliferation of concrete jungles in most urban areas, thereby interfering with the infliration capacity of the soil and the change of soil cover .lack proper storm storage and sewer connections also cause urban flooding in cities and urban centres, infact ,the impacts of a particular flood event depend on the type of infrastructural development choices that were made previously (UNDP,2004)

There have been flood every where and many people are affected by it.
As mentioned by Jolly _choclate
As l had mentioned in my comment above floods is so severe to people who are being affected by it and also the landslides due to environmental abuse
Thanks
I agree with you ethical_conversation over the past weeks and months we have experinced Severe floods that has affected alot of people children, the sick and many others .
Floods has caused alot of harm to peoples life they have lost many of there properties and this is really dangerous to peoples life.
Many food that was planted has been swept away by droughts
Thankyou
