Covid-19 Website Tracker

As you can see, the global situation in the world is not at its top, and I didn't want to be passive during the pandemic and not helping people that suffer.
I'm a young developer and I have an experience with the web development. I learned it through online courses from many platforms such as Udemy, Youtube etc. And since that day, I never stopped learning because I think that it's a very useful passion, that is unfortunately, unknown by many persons. I use these skills for personal projects (like social medias, hubs etc.) but also for school projects about many topics : Internet Safety, Drugs at school etc.

That really helped me developing my research part and during these years, I've also gained new skills such as the aibility to work in a team, leadership, critical thinking and curiosity.
So I've decided to push my limits and to create a "Covid-19 Tracker". The process of the creation might seem simple : I got the data from an API (Application Program Interface) which grants you access to a database; you just have to send requests to the API, and it returns the data. Then, you have to format it, so it can readable for users. And that's the process that I used in my website.
You can have access lots of data as : Total Cases, New Cases, critical ones, total number of tests and more !

You can also see a chart with the evolution of the virus from the beginning of the pandemic, and this for different countries.

Finally I've added some information about the virus to know what we're facing (symptoms, incubation period etc. ), and some ways of prevention.

When developing this website, my main goal was to keep people informed in an easy, fast and free way.
A special thanks to my English teacher who supported me.

Fantastic project! Thank you for explaining your motivations and the skills required.
How do you know the data is trustworthy and is there anything the data doesn't tell us?
To my mind there is a pressure by humanitarian organisations on sources of information namely the WHO and its partners to give credible numbers but I also checked and compared some updates even with our local authorities in my country and this led me to give them a respectful level of trust. Besides and scientifically speaking now, since WHO doesn't provide an API for these types of requests, I chose one that is also used by most popular websites for the covid-19 tracking (worldometers.info/coronavirus etc. ) It's called the NovelCovid 19 api (Here is the documentation if you want to take a look : https://disease.sh/docs/ ). It takes its data from different sources like JHU CSSE, NYT etc.
Let's take for example the JHU CSSE case : the data come from a variety of sources such as : WHO, the US centers for disease control and prevention, the Europe centers for disease control and prevention, the National Health Commission of People's Republic of China and other health departments and medias all over the world. At the beginning, the data was collected and input manually, but as the disease spread at a higher speed, it was impossible to handle it manually and they had to automate the system.
But, finally, we all agree on the point that scepticism and questioning leads to credibility.
Wow! Fantastic research behind this project. Well done!
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.

That is fantastic but the amount of case is ridiculous is it?
Well, thank you for your comment, but I use the data that is officially reported.
How is it ridiculous
It is ridiculous because the people that are dying and the people that recovering if very bad do you get what i mean now?
Yes thanks
Thank you ☺️ for your understanding 😉

Thank you for this information

Waw, this is amazing. Am almost sure you know a lot about coding and web designing, am learning some but i don't have your level. Congratulations. Could you please make a tracker for extreme weather events? It will be very practical and lasts long
Thank you for the idea, I'll give it a try.

I have learnt that Extreme weather events like coronavirus have the same impact on people's lives, economy and the globe as a whole. Coronavirus is a global pandemic which have affected people's lives. A lot of people are dying as a result of this virus which is the same in the case of extreme weather events such as hurricanes, wildfire, earthquakes etc. Just as the world is struggling to deal with coronavirus by finding a cure for it to reduce the impact of the deaths, preparing adequately to reduce the impact of extreme weather events has also been an arduous task for the globe. Whilst coronavirus moves from person to person, extreme weather events on the other hand has to do with changes in climatic conditions but the impact on people, government and the world are the same.
Countries which have been hit with coronavirus are spending huge monies to deal with this virus. Funds which could have been used to construct roads, build hospitals and schools are now been use to combat this virus. This also applies to extreme weather events. Government spend huge monies to give to those who have been affected by extreme weather events in order to cushion them and mitigate the impact the loses would have on them. These funds could have been used for developmental projects.
In all these, the less developed countries are those who are highly affected since they don't have the financial muscle or strength to recover from the impacts these occurrences have on them.
Due to this it is important for developing countries to ensure that those extreme weather events which they can do something about it to mitigate the impacts, they do it in order to avoid the financial loses such extreme weather events could bring to them.
