why is it always so sunny every single day? and why has it not rained once in a while
What are some factors that lead to the occurrence of a tornado storm
I would like to ask how would you know that the signs of weather is going to be a heavy rain fall or elnino
20 Apr 2020
I would like to ask if there can be anything done to the impact of climate change and are there activities we do to contribute to the climate change
Yes, stop pollution
But some of the activities that causes pollution helps our economy so if we stop those activities, our economy will fall.

I would like to ask what brings extreme weather
It could be as a result of human activities which lead to increase in green house gases. These are gases that trap heat from the sun keeping the atmosphere too hot and causing rise in global temperatures. This can have a rippling effect can lead to other forms of extreme weather. However, there also natural causes of extreme weather
Agree but don't you think that pollution is part
Fast climate-change

20 Apr 2020
I would love to ask Helen Czerska this question-when you were chasing the tornado, did you feel the speed of the wind from the tornado and how far did you stay to watch it that it didn't affect you.
Under usual circumstances, a storm-chaser would not feel the wind of a tornado(they stay inside cars). Also , while it is advisable to stay at a safe distance , some storm-chasers do drive very near to a tornado ,or are inadvertently caught in a tornado that has either swelled in size and/or changed course rapidly.
Thank you for the reply
You're welcome.

If the ozone layer depletes what happens next
Firstly the is a thick blanket of oxygen beneath the sun that shields the earth from the strong rays of the sun. If the ozone layers is depleted it reduces the thickness of oxygen that shields us, therefore the rays of the sun hits the earth directly therefore leads to global warming. This is why the earth is so hot of late and this is as well causing climate change.
As I had said earlier the ozone layer is a thick blanket of oxygen beneath the sun that prevent the rays of the sin from hitting is directly. If the ozone layer is depleted it reduces the thickness of the oxygen that forms the ozone layer that shield us and this can lead to global warming. This why the earth is so hot of late because the rays of the sun are hitting us directly and this has resulted in the climate change as well as the extreme weather and its events such as wildfires happening in Australia and heatwave. An real life example that can explain how the ozone layer is depleted can be let's take an umbrella to be the ozone layer, the should still maintain it name and you represent the earth and the people. So you realise that the umbrella which is the ozone layer is beneath the sun and you are under the ozone layer. So let's assume the are no holes in the umbrella(ozone layer), that way when it is above your head you do not really feel the heat of the sun in fact you feel cool. This means if the was no depletion of the ozone layer we will feel cool and the may be no climate change or extreme weather. So now take it us your have done somethong that has created a whole in the umbrella and you go out into the sun. It will come to your notice that the place where the hole was created will will absorb the sun but rather it will hit that part of your body beneath it, so that part of your body will no longer feel cool but hot. This explain why not all parts of the world feel the same amount of heat or warming. So emit more oxygen in to the atmosphere so they feel more other less so less heat. This is why we must all come together, reduces the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and restore the thickness of the oxygen that forms the ozone layer. I know it may take decades but together with patience and the reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases we will make it. And this is the way to eliminate climate change and we would have as well half way eliminated extreme weather and some of it events such as heatwaves, wildfires etc which are caused by heat.

22 Apr 2020
I would like to ask Helen Czerski :
Why do we even have extreme weather in any situation?
22 Apr 2020
I would like to ask Helen Czerski that:
A tornado and a hurricane which one is more dangerous.

22 Apr 2020
My question is: Can something be done to avoid the impact of hurricanes?
22 Apr 2020
Hurricanes are form over the warm ocean water of the tropics. When warm moist air over the sea rises,it is replaced by cooler air.The cooler air will then get warm and start to rise. This cycle causes huge storm clouds to form.
22 Apr 2020
My question that I would like to ask is 'is Global Warming the most dangerous extreme weather there is?'
I would love to know the answer to this question and also if you can, find a website that will provide facts about what causes extreme weather. Thank you

22 Apr 2020
Another question that I have thought about was 'what causes extreme weather to happen?'
22 Apr 2020
To Kate Ravilious, from all of the journalism you have recorded in your books, what has been the most dangerous and serious extreme weather there has been?
22 Apr 2020
For the question 'what causes extreme weather to happen?' is for the expert Isabel Gomes.
22 Apr 2020

I want to ask:
1. Can we predict weathers with only our bodies and our eyes? If yes, How do we do it?
2. What species had global warming created most impact on?
3. Does building any particular kind of buildings affect the happening of extreme weather?
4. Is there any chance that we can avoid extreme weather completely, or predict it soon enough so that we can do something with the situation?
5. Is everything linked together so that everything eventually affects the happening of extreme weather for example hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc.?
23 Apr 2020
my question is why do people experience extreme weather?
23 Apr 2020
My question is why do people experience extreme hot weather condition in different part of the world whiles others in different parts experience extreme cold weather conditions
23 Apr 2020
Extreme weather is when the condition of the atmosphere gets more severe or gets beyond the adequate (normal) limits or becomes too dangerous.
Here are some safety tips to observe during thunder and lightning.
1.Do not make phone calls during thunder and lightning as it can cause electric spark.
2.Avoid leaving brighter and shiny objects in the open during thunderstorms.
3. It is also advisable to stay indoors during thunderstorms.
thank you for that. It is really helpful
23 Apr 2020
I want to ask which weather is most dangerous?which country does it really occur.
24 Apr 2020
From all indications, we can see that human some human activities contribute greatly some extreme weather consequences. We cannot do without the benefits of these activities. We therefore have to find alternative environmentally friendly approachhes to engage in these activities.
24 Apr 2020
I would like to question Helen Czerski : Can tornadoes lift things?
24 Apr 2020
I would like to ask Fran Scott a question. Do you think, in the future, that there will be an invention that is remote controlled that can go up to a tornado and collect a sample for scientists to experiment on .Also, they might be able to see why it rains in or after a storm . If you think this will be possible can you please tell me around what year you think it will be possible. I would be very grateful if you could reply. 😊
Many thanks,
Reliable_fig

I would like to ask Helen Czerki : What type of Extreme Weather is in the sea? And: How does it end up there?
24 Apr 2020
Africans sahara was once wet but then it changed from wet to dry every 20,000 years. A new study suggests climate conditions in the sahara desert changed from wet to dry about every 20,000years. The study I am talking about was carried out by scientists of Americans Massachusetts Institute of Technology or MIT. Research says between 122 and 133 thousand years ago(kya), the southern part of the Saharan Arabian desert experienced the start of the Abbassia Pluvial a wet period with increased monsoonal precipitation around 200-100mm/ years. The sahara the worlds largest desert was once a fertile grassland. The widely held belief is that the sahara died up due to a change in the earths orbit, which affected ts solar isolation , or the amount of electromagnetic energy the earth receives from the sun. I would like to end with a poem title Desert River
Desert too have their river.
Entombed from birth in earth
Waters mightier than Volta's
Lie his from glare of sun
And winds that dry.
Roofed not by sky
But by rocks that do not always hold,
These run their unwitnessed course
To their unwitnessed end. Without a sound
They gush into bowels of seas
Far, far away from unaided human eyes.
If you cannot see our tears
It foes not mean we do not cry.
This poem was written by Lade Wosornu. Lastly I will like to say that, it is hot and dry, yes we now but under ground it cool and wet because it is said that water is under ground.
Thank you for sharing such a lovely poem and also crediting it to the author. Can you tell us why you wanted to share it?
24 Apr 2020

24 Apr 2020
Lastly, l would like to ask (Isabel Gomes) what disasters could occur due to extreme weather
How do humans especially the aged and children as well as other living things affected by this.
How seriously could they be affected.
Does it affect those with skin and respiratory diseases.
How could such people be cared for.
Examples of natural cases and disasters of extreme weather.
Why do some countries experience it more.
24 Apr 2020
Liz Bonnin. Why is it that cases of extreme weather is normally recorded outside Africa?
Also, is it only human activities that bring about climate change?
Has it always been that meteorologists are always right about the weather? And why?

Liz Bonnin, has lockdown affected daily pollution levels- has this affected the weather?
I have asked this because before lockdown many transportations caused pollution. In lockdown, not many transports are in use. This means there is less pollution affecting our world. It has recently been quite sunny up until the past week or thereabouts. Although we are supposed to be in lockdown, I have spotted five planes pass my house, and ever since then, more clouds and rainy days have kicked in. I do not believe this is a coincidence and think my theory may have something behind it, however, I am not a scientist and would like one's perspective on this.

The emission of green house gases in the atmosphere causes climate change and now leading to extreme weather. My question is when we burn things with chemical( plastics, rubber etc) does it emit greenhouse gases that cause climate change. Some examples of such gases.
In another way, when we burn things in nature such as dry grasses, dry leaves etc that it emit greenhouse gases that lead to climate change? If yes, why? What gas do they emit and do they contain chemical? If they contain chemicals, are these chemicals dangerous to the atmosphere? And if no, why?
I ask this because when I see people burning things with chemical, always say they are depleting the ozone layer and no one objects to that. But one day when I saw someone burning dry grasses and leaves, as usual I said they were depleting the ozone layer. Suddenly someone said no they were not, so I asked why and this was the persons answer. He said " they are not depleting the ozone layer because these are dry grasses and leaves, things of nature and they do not emit greenhouse gases but it is when we burn things with chemicals we deplete the ozone layer. Also, I ask because I seem not to understand why dry grasses and leaves don't emit greenhouse gases that lead to climate change. Please give me a clearer picture of this.

Would animals be effected in the same way as humans?
Animals can loose food source and homes
I don't think so, how will animals be affected in the same way as humans?
But in my view I think animals usually take the risk, because their Only place of living is the forest, and if the weather rises, they have no where to hide themselves as we do,we human beings have houses where we can hide, even we have pullovers whiles animals does not.
Which means animals are usually the most affected organism.

My question goes to Madam kate Ravilious who is a journalist my question is you write about the extreme weather in the Magazines and the newspaper .Do you face any challenges concerning the weather or any obstacle that may come your way,lam asking because where l reside l rarely come across the Magazines and newspaper and for you to access one you will have to go for a long kilometer, also when you write about the extreme weather do people see it as a less important thing in the World.lam asking this because where l come from the society l live in don't have much information and they don't have knowledge about the extreme weather
Thanks
Hi ethical_conversation,
Thank you for sharing about how difficult it is to get information. Having newspapers and magazines is something we might take forgranted in the UK. Has the internet made it easier to find information and news?
Of course, the Internet made it easy to find news and information very significantly in the past. People used to travel long distances and used a lot of their time and effort to obtain information, but now you are sitting in your home. You can learn a lot of information and news from thousands of sites. You can do most of your work on the Internet. It is really a beautiful thing.

I would like to ask why the temperature varies from one place to another, even within the provinces of a country?
I looked for the answer to my question, but I was not satisfied with any answer I read.
Essentially there are two main reasons why temperature varies from place to place.
First, the amount of energy arriving from sun:This is a world with different parts also with different climates, the energy from the sun is partially absorbed into the world making temperature vary from place to place.
Secondly the circulation of the atmosphere:
Oceans carry heat and moisture from one place to another. This makes temperatures vary from place to place.
