Earth day was propounded in 1970 because of the concern people had for the earth and their environment. This year, I think the earth day is more important because, in previous years and in the age we are in now, the earth has been ravished with a lot of pollution and other harmful agents which has depleted our ozone layer.
This years earth day will definitely be taken more seriously as more people world wide are currently aware of the effects of climate change on their environment and they would like to help out in securing the world that they live in.

earth day is held on the 22 of April which is today.
They plant trees, water it and if they are not busy, they'll say one or two words about trees benefits and that's all. Then every one return to do want he want. It'll take just one or two hours if we really plant a lot of trees. So should we really call it earth DAY, we just spent a maximum of two hours. In my opinion, if we'll continue doing this lazy actions, we should name it earth hour not earth day. Earth day should be a full day where we plant trees, water them, sensibilise people about the importence of water and many other important things. But even if we did all of this, do you think that it's enough? Our greed makes us blind and irresponsible. Today earth is in pain. I think it's shame on us because we're taking advantage of our big mother the earth who gives us always the tenderness. And in my opinion, earth day must be every day. And we should clean the nature from the plastic, industrial and domestic wastes because if we'll continue like this, a lot of animals will die such as the fish. Did you know that more than 100 M fish die every single year? So please we should fix our big fault starting with sensiblising people about the importance of earth day🌎!

Your words are really nice and I agree with you !!
And I can give you some activities that can be carried out on Earth Day so that a day remains and not become Earth Hour !!
First, heads of state can, for example, organize conferences and summits with the main topic of the earth and climate change in it, and they talk about its damages and formulate proposals that must be implemented on a global scale to reduce this change.
Secondly .. Ministers such as the Minister of Environment can organize cultural and environmental workshops and seminars on a large scale in the country, as well as the Minister of Sports who can organize, for example, a competition that ran a marathon in which donations are collected and take those donations, for example, to remove generators that work on coal, put solar cells in their place and bring a lot of Trees, grow them everywhere or help people affected by climate change. .
Third, local community institutions in the country can carry out activities that support the earth and the environment, such as going out in peaceful demonstrations to spread environmental awareness and undertaking initiatives aimed at protecting the earth, such as supporting the idea of recycling in the community and organizing parties that talk about Earth Day
Fourth .. School students can plant trees in school and at home with the help of their teachers and their school, and create brochures that talk about Earth Day, create presentations and communicate with the outside world, for example, my school students communicate with students of another school in America, for example, and talk about the land, the environment, climate change, and exchange information and problems Facing the earth, we can also develop suggestions and solutions to this problem
Thus, most segments of society participated in this day, and it literally became an International Earth Day

        1. I think the impact Earth day has is that it raises awareness about protecting the environment and our planet earth, and to also help stop or slow down climate change so that people can really think about how people can change their ways of contributing to climate change, for example, throwing rubbish in the ocean.

        2. Yes, people should pay more attention to it because if we don’t act now, climate change (as scientists believe climate change will be irreversible between 2027 - 2042) will cause rainfalls, floods, droughts and heatwaves which will lead to not having enough clean water, crops will be ruined which means that there won’t be enough food, it will cause many injuries and people might die during these extreme situations, and finally, it will destruct homes so lots of people will be homeless, thirsty, hungry and injured. All of this information will persuade people to act now because no one would want to go through all of that.

        3. We could reduce, reuse, recycle so that we’re not wasting resources and contributing to pollution. We could also plant trees and pick rubbish out of the ocean. There are still many ways to get involved with Earth day, these are just a few options, but all of these and more could protect the environment, help our planet and stop climate change.

By the way, I love all your activities for Earth day open_knowledge, it sounds great and would be able for everyone to do, especially the presentations which you can do on Google Slides or Docs.

Thank you so much for the above post and more so the questions you have put forward.
First and foremost, I thank the team that spearheads the organization and recognition of Earth day globally. According to me, Earth day has a huge impact to humanity and everything that has life Just imagine if we can celebrate other important days such as Easter, Women's day, mothers' day, Fathers' day etcetera, why not celebrate Earth day.Our mother nature only supports us day and night, when we are awake and when we are asleep at no cost. The recognition of Earth day shows how appreciative we are to the Earth for sustaining our lives.Tjw Earth gives us water, food and oxygen at a very minimal cost.I once visited my brother in the hospital who was on a life support machine and the cost of oxygen in the hospital was very high.I realized that our Earth gives us the oxygen for free yet we care very little. Earth day with go a long way in enlightening us about the value that mother Earth has for every atom of life that belongs to it.
As a beneficiary of the Earth, I have decided to plant at least ten tree seedlings in our school compound as my contribution towards bringing back greener.I thank the global conversation project for making me know more about Earth day because all along, I was ignorant about this day.I urge my fellow students all over the world to recognize and do something, however little it may be, to support our Earth because without Earth, we are no more.

For the question of how we can participate in Earth Day this year, I think our participation in this global conversation and discussion of our planet matters in particular climate change and Covid 19 and listening to the opinions of others and seeing what students from all over the world think about these disasters and listening to their ideas, is a participation in Earth Day.

    Question 1:
I think that when people hear that today is Earth Day, many of them will search the Internet for what Earth Day is and why there is Earth Day, and thus they will touch on knowing the earthly disasters that occur and their tremendous damage to our planet such as climate change, so we will find a lot of people who will be urgent to deal with disasters that happen on Earth without everyone knowing their danger.

I will look at the subject from another point of view
When those people get acquainted with the earthly disasters that happen to the earth, they will have the motivation, enthusiasm and strength to take a serious step towards the earth and the environment and face the crisis of climate change without fear because by this they will have realized the amount of danger that surrounds the earth and thus threatens their future and the future of their children.

What impact am I thinking of today on Earth ??
    Hello!!
Honestly today, for the first time in my life, I know that there is only World Earth Day.
But after reading through the reports Tom sent out, I took a quick snapshot of the day
    Thank you Tom !!!
I think Earth Day has a great impact on a number of people around the world, especially the youth, so the participation of 190 countries on this day is not easy.
We know that few people around the world are interested in environmental and climate issues, and their work is mostly in this area
Earth Day is considered an opportunity to attract people to the environment, increase their sense of responsibility towards it, and promote sustainable development
I also believe that Earth Day is the day when the environment and the earth speak for themselves and the dangers and challenges they face, whether from natural or human disasters, and push us, especially developed countries, to concern themselves with the environment.
I believe that Earth Day stirs up many feelings among the world's inhabitants, including feelings of fear of the dangers threatening the earth, feelings of blame and remorse for not taking responsibility for it, and feelings of sadness over the devastation that has occurred on Earth. Such as the extinction of some animals, such as the wild cats that were widespread in Southeast Asia, and some plants such as the plant sulfium, and the melting of ice at the poles due to the high temperature of the earth.
From my point of view, I see that the Earth Day is very important and will impose itself with strength, and its activities will increase as the risks and threats to the earth increase

Should people pay more attention to it ??
Yes, people should pay attention to this day and know what is the importance of the message or the intended goal of this important day, and that it is one of the reasons that
It will help them eliminate or reduce environmental risks and climate change
We can make people pay more attention to it by increasing activities that stimulate interaction and enthusiasm among them and push them to take important steps to bring about positive change to the land, in addition to international organizations drawing attention to this issue.

And the inclusion of the content of Earth Day and its goals in the school curricula to prepare generations that possess environmental awareness and culture, and this will save a lot of effort in reducing the destroyers of the earth in the future.

How can I participate in Earth Day this year ??
We in Palestine do not suffer from environmental pollution as in developed countries. Therefore, the activities that we will practice in Palestine will differ from them in developed countries. They can establish awareness seminars about the environment and the risk of human activities on it and support the idea of recycling through the establishment of bins in which the garbage is sorted, for example the glass in A box, paper in a box, plastic in another box, and encouraging people to the idea of using renewable energy, for example, instead of using electrical generators that run on fuel, we use solar cells to generate electricity
And wind turbines if the necessary conditions are met in the country
That is, what is meant is to exploit renewable energy sources in the country instead of non-renewable sources
As for me as a school student, I can create a presentation on the PowerPoint program that talks about Earth Day and its importance and publish it on the school's electronic pages and distance learning methods
And I can do volunteer work in my community, such as cleaning the streets, putting rubbish bins on the streets, or posting banners talking about Earth Day and planting trees and flowers in gardens on the streets if possible.
Let us make people feel the beauty of nature and the environment and their responsibilities in preserving it, and all this is with social distancing and adherence to preventive measures for the Corona virus, such as wearing masks and sterilization, the tools necessary for volunteer work
I want to note that Land Day for those here in Palestine does not have an environmental character, but rather a national one
On the Palestinian Land Day, we do not carry out environmental activities as on the International Land Day, but we do activities that show our belonging to our homeland, Palestine.

Earth Day reminds us that we depend on nature. We aren't its masters, and we must respect it. Our relation with nature is strange : we destroy it, we love it, and we try to protect it at the same time ...
Earth Day certainly marks the start of a vast campaign of ecological transition, but it doesn't make sense for the majority of humanity.
Pro-environmental demonstrations, awareness campaigns and meetings failed to accomplish the symbolism of this fact, which is the preservation of our nature, overcome by our greed for comfort and domination.
People need to pay more attention to the environmental problems that are so important , and complex. They must be educated from an early age about pollution, extinction of flora and fauna, drought , deforestation, desertification, ... In short, they must be educated to respect their mother nature.
When bad habits change, when false mentalities related to ecology cease, then we will be able to say it loud and clear that the goals of this important day have been successfully accomplished. At our individual level, we can limit our water use, our meat consumption. We can plant trees, reuse organic waste in compost, ... Even a simple lamp switched off can be a big step for a better world.

Indeed planting trees is very important! Deforestation is a severe problem that is damaging the "lungs" of our planet, and this problem is often concentrated in some parts of the world for example the Amazon forest. What do you think are the biggest environmental problems in the UK, and how we as individuals can do to help?

The biggest environmental problem in the UK is air pollution, in general this problem in almost all countries of the world, which results from frequent and large logging, and another reason is the use of fossil fuels and dependence on them. We can reduce this environmental problem by planting trees, encouraging people to plant them, and making people rely on renewable energies instead of fossil fuels.

The problem of air pollution appears largely in developed cities, whose economy depends on industry, and factories pose a threat to air pollution like the UK, on the other hand, we find in poor villages and regions that their economy depends on agriculture, but ultimately both parties are affected by air pollution and climate change.

Hi everyone. Today is a special day. It's April 22nd "THE EARTH DAY "🌍 On this day, people are encouraged to think deeply about their impact on the environment and how they can help protect it from future damage. However, I think this shouldn't be limited to just one day of the year . I want to say :"let's make Earth Day EVERY DAY". Why don't we raise the people's awareness about the importance of recycling which helps lessen the amount of rubbish sent to landfills and recommend that we start using recycling bins where any recyclable items should be discarded? That way , we will not only help make our environment a better place but also have a positive impact on ourselves. In my opinion , we should pay more attention to our planet, the Earth .Let's all unite and work together , hand in hand, in order to make the difference . Let's become good protectors of our environment. Let's do it because we can, let's do it because we care . 🌍

Thank you for your Kind comment. You asked me about the 2Rs. Actually, the first R, reduce, is about using only what we need. However, using items more than once instead of throwing them away is reuse , the second R.🔄 You can use reusable bags instead of the plastic ones and you will not only save the environment but also save your money. In my opinion, the 3Rs are very important in our life. Why? Because following them will lessen the amount of waste. Don't forget that the 3Rs will also lessen the space used to landfills sites . Thanks for your attention 🌍

    Earth is our responsibility
Earth day is finally here, I've personally been waiting for it for a while. It's the one day a year that everyone takes action and acts responsibly towards our planet . The one day that we all realize how badly we treat our nature. If you ask me this day is really important for us and our planet. And I find it unfair that it's only one day . Not everyone participates in it which makes it even more devastating. Especially that now more than ever it's important for all of us to help our environment. And that's why I think that the main thing people should do is spread awareness. That way more people can reduce their footprints on our planet. For me I spend this day reducing and recycling simple things in my everyday life, volunteering in cleanups in my community. I also like planting trees because it's one of the most important elements in nature today .

Our planet is an amazing place, but it needs our help to improve! That's why, Earth Day is recognized as one of the largest observance in the world, signed by more than a billion people in the world every year as a day of action to change human behavior and protect the planet from misdeed like pollution and deforestation.
Earth Day was the brainchild of a environmentalist who hoped to provide unity to the grassroots environmental movement and increase ecological awareness. Since His objective was to get a nationwide demonstration of concern for the environment.
Today, Earth Day is not only a day meant to increase environmental problems, but it is also becoming a popular time for many communities to gather together to improve our environment by gathering together to clean up litter, plant trees, or simply reflect on the beauty of nature.
Now, the fight for a clean environment continues with increasing urgency, as the ravages of climate change become more and more apparent every day.

good evening ladies and gentlemen,👋 I am the talkative squirrel from Sousse Tunisia I am twelve years old. Today is April 22nd, does this day remind you of something, O humanity ???? I think it is an important historical day for the world, but I do not think that the new generation has even heard of it !! This day is not the birthday of your sister or your mother, it is Mother’s Day, Mother Nature’s Day, Today is Mother’s Day, Earth’s Day, yes, the Earth that gives us generously and will continue to give us. It is time for us to respond to the favor of this planet .🌏 nature is our nurturing mother our physical mother allows us to sit on her knees for a few years .. but nature supports our weight during our lifetime. nature is life she is the source of all virtue so we have to protect her and be grateful but how ???

-Do not throw garbage on the ground .
        - We must not damage trees or trample plants
.- and above all we must multiply trees near factories and stop deforestation.
        -Do not slaughter animals.
        - factories must be built far from residential areas.
        - the most important thing is to respect the earth ....
He who pollutes nature traces the path to his death. our environment is threatened it is in danger and at the edge of a precipice we must react and call for help !!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

I think Earth Day has a huge impact because it enables environmentalists to sensitize people about degradation of the environment. Before and during the pandemic, the effects of climate change have greatly displaced people and taken lives.
So, people are tired and now to put an end to environmental degradation.
Everyone should pay more attention to this day and help improve on the state of the earth. This is necessary in order to prevent death of people when it is too late . The earlier the better.

Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.
Celebrating Earth Day serves as a conscious reminder of how fragile our planet is and how important it is to protect it. ... We celebrate Earth Day to continue promoting environmental awareness and to remind us that we can protect the earth in our everyday lives as well.

On Earth Day yesterday we as a class decided That we would draw a picture related to Earth Day i draw a picture that was the Earth being destroyed by climate change and i was very proud of what I drew.

I think that Earth Day has an impact because people are more concerned about the environment and how we can save it. People should pay more attention because if we didn't pay attention to the environment and how we are destroying it then we might not even be here today. Also if we don't help save the environment then we might be the last generation of humans on Earth. To get involved with Earth Day you can:
    *recycle
    *plant more trees
    *not waste food
*turn off devices if you are not using them

I think earth day is really important because the earth is not very clean now and if it does not then we will all have to live in it and it is very bad for you when you breathe because you should not keep breathing in all of the petrol and all of the bad air. I also think earth day is very important because it is the day that everyone cleans up a part of the earth, yesterday my class and I went into the garden we have in our school and we cleaned up all of the wrappers and things like plastic. My friends and I were doing the end of the garden and we found so many plastic cups and things like that. We also cleaned up all of the toys and things that the ks1 play with.We had quiet a lot of fun doing it knowing it was our world we are cleaning up, I feel if every school did it in the world then we could have a clean environment. I think is is very good that lots of people do this so we can have a clean world.

In every inhale from the trees there is an oxygen atom you steal. This atom hurts the leaf but makes you alive. The earth can't talk to the tree because you killed its bee, the earth can't complain to the sea because you made it a flee . Peace between the Earth and us has vanished since the death of our "Mother Nature"... So all together let's apologise to her... Mom sorry , twice sorry ,sorry for harming you , sorry for polluting your own pure space, sorry for stealing your freedom, sorry for the misery you are witnessing . We are all regretting uprooting your beautiful diamonds... We burned the lungs of a caring mother and we broke the heart of our protector. The planet is aching because of us... so let's help it . Hi again I'm gergarioys-argument, in this article I write about Solar power - unlimited source of energy.
Solar power is the key to a clean energy future. Every day, the sun gives off far more energy than we need to power everything on earth. That’s why we’re investing heavily in solar plants and why we are now offering solar kits to our customers in Finland, Norway and Sweden.
In the other hand Limitless solar energy
No greenhouse gas emissions are released into the atmosphere when you use solar panels to create electricity. And because the sun provides more energy than we’ll ever need, electricity from solar power is a very important energy source in the move to clean energy production.

In the end I hope that you use renewable resources such as solar energy as an alternative to petroleum products to maintain clean air for you and for future generations.

Hence, we can plant more trees and flowers , clean parks or raise awarness about the dangers that are threatening our environment... Anyway, some countries and cities don' t have the chance to do those kind of actions because of the COVID 19 and the lockdown , so I suggest that we all take action on the occasion of the international Earth Day. Maybe try using less electricity than usual or try not to waste water because simple actions can help a lot . So today we should make the 3Rs♻️ ( Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) our motto , ride bikes instead of cars for short trips, shop wisely, use reusable shopping bags and buying less plastic , help your family , friends and loved ones understand the importance and the value of our natural resources... We just need to remember that we CAN make a change. ❤ 🌍 considerate-guitar

this year was the first year i heard about earth day. so many people have been doing their part for the earth including celebrities. this helped to increase awareness and increase the importance. i hope that one day this planet will get better and we as a civilisation can change for the better

In my opinion, I don't think that Earth Day has much of an impact as the majority of people I asked didn't know what it was. For something to be impactful, I think that a lot of people would need to know about it and this is not the case. If people have never heard of it, how could anyone make a difference or contribute to the cause? If awareness for Earth day was to increase, so would the impact.

In terms of the impact of Earth day, I think that more could be done to spread awareness of the event. Up until reading this post, I was unaware of Earth day and how I could get involved with it. In my opinion, to increase the impact that Earth day could have, more people need to be made aware of this event. If we were all to get involved and do our bit, Earth day could have a major impact in many different ways; from educating more people on the issue to getting the public actively involved in the day. Together we can beat this issue!

Personally, I wasn't aware of Earth day until this year, and I think that this really says a lot! If more people were made aware of this, and were encouraged to become more involved in it, then I think that this day could have such an impact! Encouraging and educating others is a great start to fixing this massive, and urgent issue!
