  • To help answer this question, think about how urgent climate change is.
  • We want to hear about your experience where you live. The best comments will answer the question and explain why your experiences have led to your opinion. For example, I live in the UK where climate change doesn't cause as many deaths as covid-19, so people don't see such a direct and shocking impact...

I think people are not reacting as quickly to climate change because I seldom watch the news about climate change in the television. However, I always watch the news about covid-19 in the television. Not only television, other social media such as Instagram/FaceBook would show a lot of covid-19. Therefore, i think that’s why people react covid-19 quicker than climate change. Do you agree?

Because here in my country Tunisia, there aren't spots and warnings about it
There is a real lack of education of environmental issues, people does not even know what climate change means and this is really so sad

We sometimes talk about it with some friends and teach them what climate change means
It's time to know its importance and to take the right precautions and to react to it

I think the reason why people are not reacting as quickly to climate change is because, climate change affects the ozone layer which not many people noticed, but Covid-19 is a highly contagious disease which a lot of people noticed than that of climate change. Let me make an instance, where I live we have a lot of weather changes, somedays the weather is hot and somedays the weather is very cold, so no one noticed climate change because of the changes of the weather, so we thought it was a normal thing, but covid-19 was a world wide disease that everyone knew about and tried to protect themselves . So what I'm trying to say is not many people know much about climate change, so we should try to make awareness, lets stop climate change and save the earth!

I think that people aren’t reacting to climate change with the same urgency as COVID-19, because climate change hasn’t been as dangerous as COVID-19. Where I live, I have been able to handle climate change very well. Usually, Jos is very cold, and I have to wrap myself very well, but of recent, as a result of the climate change, causing global warming, the hot nights make me sleep without a blanket, even without proper clothing.

I think people aren't reacting to climate change as quickly as covid-19 because people aren't well educated but some people who are well educated don't think it is very important because they don't see the effect. Where i live i notice that there is a lot pollution like : bush burning and burning of plastic. And this is very harmful to the environment. We need to create more awareness on climate change.

I think people are not really reacting to climate change with the same urgency as the covid-19. This is because our leaders have made it to be more useful, though, some of them don't even know that the climate change can destroy our world that is for the generation to come. when we were still in lock-down, The government made many precautions for us to take to prevent harming of the covid-19 but as you can see, only up to a few people care about climate change. If i should add, climate change, has only a little concern, while all people care about the covid-19.Where i live, the government has made it known to everyone. It has been shown on social media and other media to let people be aware about it than the climate. I still think we take climate change seriously.you can answer if you agree to what i have said......

I think people are not reacting quickly to climate change because a lot of people are not aware of climate change as much as coronavirus. Now people think coronavirus is more harmful than climate change because of that. To stop this we must work together hand in hand to make more awareness of climate change.

I think people aren't reacting to climate change as quickly as corona virus because enough awareness has not been created compared to corona virus. As a result, lots of people don't know much about climate change. In the place where i live, some children don't go to school because they don't have enough money to go to school and learn about the effects of climate change. If they knew about the effects, they would create enlightening campaigns about the effects of climate change, tell people to practice afforestation, stop bush burning, and build factories and industries away from homes and communities. Talking about World Earth Day, some people aren't aware that today is World Earth Day as a result of illiteracy and unawareness. Do you know that today is World Earth Day? Do you celebrate or talk about it in your school.

I think people aren't reacting to covid-19 the with the same urgency as climate change ....

because when covid-19 was discovered they put people under lockdown because it was a airborne and also deadly but since climate change is not a virus they didn't take it as seriously as covid-19. I think people would react to climate change the same way as covid-19 if it was a virus and if it was airborne . Where I live there are still lots of trees even though a lot of them have been cut down ,but because of World Earth Day which is today a lot of them have been restored. I think people are not reacting to climate change as quickly as they did for corona virus. Corona virus is a deadly disease, so the government quickly made awareness on television , radios , newspapers and online too, but that was not enough so the whole nation had to go on lockdown and people had to work from home, children doing online classes and much more. Climate change has been a major concern over the years, but people do not seem to take it seriously, why? The reason I believe is that awareness is not as much as corona virus. Now you will hear people talking about corona virus but not climate change. Is that what happens in your country too?

Hello i am sensible_land , i live in Gaza i wish you knew that a bout the best month of the year , which is Ramadan.
    - Ramadan is a month in which all Muslims fast from down to sunset if you are wondering why we are doing this?
Around the world there are many people , children and elderly people who can not afford a loaf of bread they can not eat a full meal. They can not eat a dishes that you eat every day.
So the basic idea of month of Ramadan is to feel the suffering of the poor and the needy, as a group of donors or ordinary people tried the feeling of poverty and wanted to donate food and water, so the month of Ramadan spread love and sympathy among people, this is all i have to the meeting
    Thank you for your time.

I think that people do not react quickly to climate change with the way they interacted with Covid 19, because in our country where I live in Palestine, we have a moderate climate, that is, cold rainy winter and hot dry summer, where we do not have hurricanes or floods that cause deaths, either Covid 19 causes huge quantities of Deaths, where the death rate has reached the millions. In our country, I have known Covid 19 from the region in which I live, as my region only talks about the topic of Covid 19 Is this also happening in your country?

Frankly, I do not agree with you much, as many countries and governments are concerned with climate change now as they were concerned with it before the spread of the new Corona virus, as they said that the outbreak of the new Corona virus will not distract attention from the issue of climate change, inequality or other pressing issues. . They added: "Both the Coronavirus and climate change are serious problems that require a specific response from the government, institutions and citizens. They must be overcome."
But at the same time, there are many countries and governments that do not care about that because they believe that the two problems are different in nature, as one of them (Corona) is temporary and its repercussions are expected to be temporary. But climate change has been around for years, will stay with us for decades, and it requires constant action.
As for my country, we in Gaza do not suffer much from climate change, so we find people do not talk as much about climate change as they talk about Corona virus.

    According to my understanding the following are the reasons why people aren't reacting to climate change the same urgency as COVID 19. and they include;
It very rare to find someone talking about climate change unlike COVID 19 which has affected everyone from children upto adults, therefore to find someone talking about climate change it is seen as a figment of someone and its sometimes boring.
Climate change does not have direct impact on social-economic welfare unlike COVID 19 which has caused direct impact on the welfare of people. Most people have directly observed the outcomes of COVID 19 , therefore all efforts have been diverted to protect themselves from its impact rather than climatic changes.

I think why most people aren't reacting to climate change as the same urgency as COVID 19 is because some people believe in what they see and afraid of and some thing that affects them directly. As they watch news they see how dangerous COVID 19 kills and they are afraid of their lives.
The science climate change is complicated and not simple to understand therefore little attention is paid towards climate change and its effects take long time to be realized unlike COVID 19 whose impacts are directly seen.

COVID19 is a global pandemic which spreads rapidly and its effects has been realised by both the literate and illiterate societies, the young and the old, there it attracted a quick reaction towards it unlike climate change which is not simple to understand, and its effects take long to be realized.
Absence of strict laws about climate changes than COVID 19. There are several measures that are put forward to combat the pandemic like social distancing, wearing masks and these are strictly implemented which is not the case With climate change.

For me the reason as to why people are not reacting to climate change with the same urgency as covid-19 is that people fear death than anything else including the impact of climate change. Even the local medias like radios, televisions and social media like facebook mostly give updates on Covid-19 than updates about effects of climate change.
Most people don't understand climate change, it's effects and measures that can be put forward to combat it's negative effects unlike COVID-19 where a big percentage of the population know how it's spread and ways of overcoming it's impact.
Most people don't believe that their activities of deforestation, industrialization can pause agreat impact on the climate as scientists asserts.

Covid_19 is considered an epidemic crisis for the whole world .. It also had an impact on Palestine, but it was less harmful than other countries because it arrived late and we took the preventive measures that we learned from other countries .. It has many negative effects on humans, but it has positive effects. On the environmental front, the matter has made it clearer and clearer, and there has been a significant reduction in air pollution as a result of closing factories and reducing car exhaust and other means of transportation. It also left a positive impact on family relations due to the ban system imposed on Palestine, so that families that include employees, whether the father or the mother spend most of his time at work, due to the daily prohibition, children now sit with children and their mothers for longer periods than before and they begin to practice their lives. Away from work pressures .. social media had a great impact in spreading awareness, instructions and directives for individuals to adhere to home quarantine .. and that had a positive impact in some health fields, as many developed countries send to Palestine that crosses a developing country that does not have the necessary health capabilities. To confront this frightening hidden virus .. Therefore, countries began to send health aid and vaccines. They are accustomed to facing Covid_19, and they began to take care of hospitals and health clinics ... Yet Palestine is still a developing country and needs. . Preventive measures to fight this virus

The world has been devastated by the COVID19 pandemic. In the first place,we have to say that the world also has been captured by this monster.People were like bees working with none stop, but now in the twinkling of an eye they became prisoners at their homes day and night. They are forced to put on masks everywhere out of precaution.Students stopped going to schools and learn via internet,so it affects badly on peoples lives. On one hand,it is adisaster in every sense of the word.On the other ,it has a positive effect when people stayed at home that strengthen family relationship. Not open to doubt,it also affects the environment.Alot of factories reduced their production ,other factories stopped producing at all and people had to work from home ,some countries like Canada and the UK put restrictions on air travel .All that means less pollution and the environment could breathe fresh air.It is already not too late that the world will recover and in the process of time we will come back to normal life again.

I think the world has been reacting to COVID19 more than climate change because everyone is scared if one of their family members dies or if they die. I live in the UK so I don't see as much impact on our environment from climate change as people in the Philippines might or Japan. The news stations are not helping this at all that I have heard because they are just having most stories on COVID19 and anything but climate change. Lots of social media is about COVID19 or their lifestyle, they should really be thinking about how our earth will die, how everyone's mess in the past 200 years has left the new generations mess to solve.

If we don't act now we might just live in an Atacama Desert earth where no life can thrive. Our generation might just be the key to start saving the planet; making transport an exercise so if you can walk to school or cycle to school, but still have electric cars available; Burn no fossil fuels; Heat sources can become only solar, wind power, geothermal and hydroelectric; plant more trees and plants around, make a rule if you cut down a tree you plant two somewhere else; reuse plastic bottles and make new home creations out of recyclable materials by painting a jar making or make a collage with plastic , cardboard, metal and anything else you can find; One of the most important, Recycle we all need to recycle to keep our local area clean and tidy.

We should look at what is happening right now ? Can you see any burning fumes in the air, any forests being cut down, any car zooming past? What you should see are many tree’s, lots of wildlife, plants dotted around your outside surroundings? But not many of these things are around especially in a city. How can we solve this? Do we want to live on a bacteria living earth? No not at all. Can our generation start tidying up the mess from 200 years ago when the Ironwork's opened and burnt fossil fuels for more than 3/5 of the day? Yes. We should stand together and hope lots of people in our community join with us to make the world a better place. Does anyone agree?

I totally agree! We need to make sure people are thinking more about climate change than Covid-19! Even though Covid-19 is a big problem the amount of cases where I'm living , so I think this is a great time to bring up climate change...!
