What should be the lowest age to vote be?

I think that the lowest age to vote should be 11. I think that it should be 11 because it means that a lot more people will be able to vote and it means that the children that have the rights to vote like they always wanted to. I don't think that the age shouldn't go any lower because the younger children won't know about it as much. Another thing that would make it a lot better would be to put what would happen if the children were to vote to leave or stay in the European Union on the ballat. Also, lots of older children have wanted the ability to vote because they have probably seen their parents go to the polling station to vote. They might want to have the power to have a say on an obstacle that might affect their future forever.

On the other hand, adults might think that the children will ruin the vote because most kids I know want to stay in the EU therefore the adults that want to leave won't be very happy because due to the new law, it might suddenly turn out that the UK want to stay. Also, some children might just mess around with the voting and vote for someone just because they have an 'a' in there name. Some Teenagers have to tendancy to mess around like this and they are the main children who will vote. This is the negative side of kids being able to vote.

Overall, I think that kids like me should be allowed to vote because we have voices to and we want to have our say in what our futures will be like.

Well done for giving reasons on both side of the argument. Can anyone find examples of countries where there is a lower voting age? How has this affected the democratic process in those places?

Many countries have a voting age of 16 including Scotland, Brazil and Wales(I think). Iran HAD a voting age of 15 but then they thought that the voting was being ruined and then they raised it to 18. This has clearly affected Iran if they wanted it to be risen to 18 years old. I still think that it should be quite a bit lower because people our age want to have a say in our lives.

Can you find out why any countries made the decision to have a lower voting age?

I think you should be able to vote by the age of 13 because you turn into a teenager at the age of 13 and because that’s an appropriate age
