What exactly is "Dictatorship"?
A dictatorship is an authoritarian form of government, characterized by a single leader or group of leaders with either no party or a weak party, little mass mobilization, and limited political pluralism.
And now in simpler form (described/defined by me!):
Dictatorship is basically the opposite of democracy, because instead of everyone having a say (via voting), there is one extremely powerful leader who makes all the desicions - whether the citizens like it or not. And if they show that they dislike the leader's ways, they (normally) get punished.
Dictatorship is like a cage. An open prison, some might say. Because your trapped with this one person in charge in all the areas of your life.
Think about it like this:
There's a journalist writing an article about something unfair and bad about either the dictator and/or her goverment. Because she stated that she does not like the goverment, she got into masses of trouble and into prison. All because of sharing her opinion - what is right! Do you think this is fair? No! This is freedom of speech! A breach of human rights!
An example of Dictatorship is Adolf Hitler, and his reign in Germany with the Nazi Party. Actually, as a matter of factual coincidence, I was reading "The Diary of Anne Frank" a while ago, which explains much of Hitler's unfair wrong-doings. He tortured Jews (and forced some like Anne Frank into hiding) because of the unbelievable reason that he simply didn't like them?!
Really, because of the difference in religion.... BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT.
While reading, I was touched at how Hitler, just a normal (although mean, and unfairly powerful) man, could go to lengths such as these for silly reasons that cost many, many innocent lives.
Anyway, as much as I love reading, then talking about the books - we have to move on! (Although I would highly reccommend The Diary of Anne Frank!)
These countries are unfortunately ruled by a dictator:
Turkey (my mum's home country - I am upset at this), Iran, Iraq, North Korea (as you probably already know), Russia, Libya, Somalia and - unfortunately - much, much more.
Dictatorship is a threat to our society because it takes away people’s individual liberty to choose what political policies they want and what they want to happen with their country. My concern is that most dictators look like a wolf in sheep’s clothing; they say the things they need to get elected but when they get the power all they do is unfairly abuse it.
Humanity has suffered enough because of dictatorship. It's inhuman - everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and one person with all that power is simply too much for them to handle.
