American Voter Interview: FINAL PIECE

Hero US Election

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

Hello my name is ZI. I am 19 and learning to be a doctor. My state has 15 electoral votes, my state is also a swing state. I am Asian and a Muslim. I have a family of 4 and they all agree with me in the American election.

How do you feel about tomorrow’s election?

I feel nervous and hope that I am making the right choice. This is the first time I am voting and I want to vote for Joe Biden because he is safe, he wants to take action and

I think Donald Trump has had his time.Donald Trump is not safe and he did not believe in coronavirus and I am learning to be a doctor, so this stuff matters to me.

Why should people vote?

Every vote counts, especially in America because if there is 1 more person that votes Joe than Donald, Joe Biden gets all of the electoral votes, so if your state is 55 votes then they get all of the votes! That's why I always wanted to vote and I think every person that can vote, should vote! So if you can then you should vote; trust me it will help your candidate!

How powerful do you think your vote is?

EXTREMELY POWERFUL. If you don't vote, you could make your candidate lose by one vote, and if lots of people don’t vote then your candidate will lose. Also if you want to vote but your state is only 4 or 3 electoral votes you should still vote because, you never know, those 4 electoral votes could save your candidate.

Can you explain why some people might not vote?

I can understand if you’re under 18 or your not a citizen, or if you have any other major reason to not vote then you can’t vote, but if it is a stupid reason like it was raining on the day or the line was long you should obviously vote one way or another in any way possible. If you can't vote for one reason or another, and you want to vote, you should go and try and convince people, not sit at home and do nothing.

What about the presidency? Would you ever run for president? Why?

No because I would want to have a family and be a doctor and live a happy life. This might be silly for some people, but I don't want too many responsibilities and I want to help people's lives in a different way.

How do you feel about the American voting system?

I think it's ok because you have swing states and it is more of a challenge for the candidates to convince another state that is supporting the other candidate. It also makes the citizens vote more powerful, as I mentioned before.
