American Voter Interview - FINAL PIECE

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

Hello my name is James. I am a Games Developer and I am twenty-one. In this up an coming election I am concerned about unemployment rates. After this pandemic people are losing jobs that pay well, and if not for food banks people would be going hungry.

How do you feel about tomorrow’s election?

I am quite nervous about the election tomorrow. It does feel like people are scrutinising me for every move I make. In a few words I am very nervous . I mean there are two candidates who have excellent policies. Well what I like about there polices. Donald Trump: Making new jobs. Joe Biden: Making the country a cleaner by 2050.

Why should people vote tomorrow?

People should vote tomorrow because you have a chance to make future generations have a good chance in life. The whole country of America depends on your vote. You can make a real difference to make the country a better place.

How powerful do you think your vote is?

I think my vote is very powerful since my state is worth a lot of electoral votes. Fifteen to be exact . In my state Democrats and Republicans don’t fight over it like some swing states , but they do rally to get are votes.

Can you explain why some people might not vote?

People might not vote for many different reasons, for instance, electoral votes or they don’t like the two candidates - these are just two reasons why people might not vote but I will talk about electoral votes. Its unfair that some states have more electoral votes than others. It only takes a little bit of doubt to say, “My vote doesn’t matter, it won’t make a change.”

What about the presidency? Would you ever run for president? Why?

Well I can’t because I’m twenty-one [you need to be over forty-five to run for president] but ignoring that fact, I would not run for president because I studied Computer science and coding not law.

How do you feel about the American voting system?

How I feel about the American voting system is its not really fair. If you get the popular vote it doesn’t matter you have the vote; it only matters if you get the electoral vote. Four years ago it was Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton running for president . She won the popular vote but Donald Trump won the electoral vote and he became president. I think the country should go for the majority vote, closer to what we do in the UK.
