American Voter Interview: FINAL PIECE

Hero US Election

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

Hello, my name is Jessie Mucvay;I am 28 years old. I am an author and a big reader (bookworm). I am experienced in the American election because I have written three books about it. I find the electoral campaigns and voting strategies fascinating and I want to find out even more about all of it...

How do you feel about tomorrow’s election?

I feel concerned about tomorrow's election because I really dislike what comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth and I strongly disagree with his ideas. I want America to be a better and more positive place andI don’t think Trump will bring that. I would love Joe Biden to win because he brings a great attitude to the country. I think Joe will help to create a brighter future for America.

Why should people vote tomorrow?

People should vote tomorrow because every vote counts. All votes can make a difference and democracy is important. I feel powerful to get the chance to vote because if you win the electoral vote by 1 vote, you immediately become the President. So if you win the popular vote but not the electoral vote you don’t become the President. So you should believe in yourself because you can accomplish great things.

How powerful do you think your vote is?

I think my vote is fairly powerful because it makes a difference to the world, especially in the American election system. We need everyone to take part in this important event. I think you should be grateful and use yours wisely because you might not get this chance again.

Can you explain why some people might not vote?

Some people CANNOT vote because you have to be over 18 to vote in America (which I disagree with because I think you should be 16 because young people have a voice as well.) Another reason you CANNOT vote is that you haven’t lived in America for 14 years or more. Then you can’t vote!!!

What about the presidency? Would you ever run for president? Why?

Being a President is an important job that involves a lot of responsibility. Being a President is quite a hard job so you have to have a lot of perseverance and courage to make decisions for your country. I would run for President because I believe that I can make America a better place for others. I want to care for the people of America and make their lives more amazing to live!

How do you feel about the American voting system?

I feel that the American voting system is unfair and inefficient. I think this because after I cast my vote, whatever my choice is, there is still another layer of voting through the electoral voters in the electoral college and it is the party (or person) who wins the most of these electoral college votes who becomes our President. This means that, as in the previous election, a candidate can win the popular vote by a margin of millions yet not win the Presidency. Some states with smaller populations have more say because, head for head, they have more votes.
