#5- Three Sentence Speech

09 October 2020

Skill Description Competition Problem Solving

Winners Announced!

What a fantastic set of three sentence speeches! Choosing winners was incredibly hard because of such a high standard in your entries.

We awarded stars for the entries we thought were most original and expressed ideas in a particularly strong or unique way.

Our primary winner this week is eager_reflection of Cheam Park Farm Primary School, who powerfully expressed why it's important to vote and it be your decision and not influenced by someone.

Our secondary winner is honest_bird of Ormiston Six Villages Academy, who got their point across in a short and concise way - and would therefore have a big impact on anyone listening. Well done to all who took part!

This week, we're setting you a challenge...

138 million Americans voted in the last presidential election in 2016. However, this was only 58% of those eligible to vote (over 18). That means 42% - or 4 in 10 Americans - did not vote.

This can be down to many reasons: for example, some people might not be interested, or feel they don't know enough, or feel they don't like either of the candidates.

Lots of organisations exist to encourage people to vote: like Rock the Vote, and lots of charities help the people they support to vote with "Get out the vote" efforts.

Imagine you have been asked to write a speech telling people why it is important to vote, but you have only 3 sentences. What would you write?

Remember, your speech is encouraging people to use their right to vote.

YOU ARE NOT TELLING THEM TO VOTE FOR A PARTICULAR PERSON!

Example: It is important to vote because...

Another reason is....

The deadline for entries is midday on Friday October 9th. Good luck!

Your vote counts, it really does count because your one vote could give election to a candidate. So please do vote, but make sure you vote the a candidate who is capable and responsible enough to be president or priminister.

Everyone who can vote should vote because kids can’t vote so they depend on you to use your vote and use it wisely. You should vote if you can because it is an advantage that is very important and your vote should be used wisely for the sake of others and your self. Remember that it is your vote and and it is your responsibility because other people vote to but not everyone will actually understand how important it is.

You should use your vote because some people physically cant vote so technically you are lucky you have a vote. Even if you don’t know enough about the candidates, you can learn more about them because as I stead before some people can not vote for various reasons so you should figure out a way you can learn more. I hope I can persuade you to vote and if I did thank you for listening to me.

It is important to vote because your vote can completely change your country and you are also doing this for the sake of others. Another reason is that it will be your only opportunity; you never know if your one vote will help your candidate win the election. Never let someone else's vote change your mind - if you have a good reason to vote for that person, and you really want them to become president, prime minister etc. , then vote for that person because that's what you want, not what anyone else thinks you should do.

It is important to vote as people throughout history have dedicated their lives to give you the chance to vote like The Suffragettes. Everyones vote count, but if your under 18 then you can't over 18s vote because it could have a huge impact on who is the President. If you live in a state that has the least electoral votes it can still have a massive difference on who's the President is. So please everyone that can vote Vote because every vote counts even if you're state has the least electoral votes.

Using your vote is like using your voice- just at the very end, it'll come naturally, such as after you are hesitant to speak. Use it, or lose it, as it effects the entire system of equality and wellbeing positively, such as it might differ not only who you see as your leader, but also how you see yourself portrayed as them. It would also in a way make you feel like you have some power and authority, and that you shouldn't decide on others, because in the end it is the voter that should have the true rights.

By not voting, you are letting go of a opportunity to help you country grow and thrive in the way that you want it to. Sign up to vote today, it is a decision that you want to take.

    Votes do count!

I think it is important to vote, because it makes a huge difference and helps to decide.
The government, want you to vote so they know the people of America or any country have a decision of what they want to rule there country and the power.
I also think it is good to vote, because if there was someone you didn't like you could disagree so if you vote you could pick a different person to the one you don't like.

    I would probably say,
' It is important that you vote because the election is about the electoral votes and where ever you live, your vote WILL make a difference! Plus, not all people can vote, for example: some people are to young to vote or have jobs where they don't have time to vote. Power. you have power over who you vote for and it is entirely up to you. You also get to give support to who you think should be president.

Everyone vote counts as it could have been that 51 people voted for one and 49 voted for another. I also think that they also should reduce the minimum age to 16 or 14 in order to get more people to have freedom to vote in elections

I think voting is important because some people don't think their vote will matter, but it does. Some presidents win by a brief number of votes. I also think that people should express their views from vote to select the government who serves them then rather punish them. This is why I think voting is important

Firstly, you must vote as each and every voice deserves to be heard! Secondly, your vote is YOUR vote meaning it's your opinion on who you want to choose and you shouldn't change it just because others are doing something different. Third of all, if you are over the age of 18, your vote could impact the lives of you and many , for better or for worse so please vote wisely! ; - )

Take the opportunity and vote because you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to vote and why waste that chance? Make a change in the future of this world and the people, and it’s a shame that only 58% of Americans over the age of 18 voted in the last election. To be able to vote gives people a sense of responsibility and freedom, the vote that you submit will change your perspective on the election and it will let you decide who will be in charge, make a change and vote.
